There are many decks out there that simpy die to Null Rod. If we only take a look at the SCG P9 Chicago top 8, there are Ravager and 7/10; it makes life difficult for others, but they have at least some way of dealing with it. Naturally I ask myself how can that be and the answer is that nobody plays Null Rod. But why nobody plays Null Rod? Can anybody explain to me why are there so few Null Rods being played while decks that have huge difficulties with it thrive?

One reason I'm asking is simple curiosity, the other is that there's an upcoming Vintage tournament and I'd like to play some artifact deck that isn't destroyed by Null Rod. I can only guess about the metagame because there are no Vintage tournaments in my country, but I do expect Null Rods in sideboards. I'm considering Stax, which can live with Null Rod on the table and can also remove it, but I'd prefer something more aggressive.

Edit: after having one through Waterbury top 16, I see that Null Rods are not that uncommon and the decks also seem to be less vulnerable to them. Did people learn from Chicago? Anyway, absence of Null Rods in Chicago still puzzles me. They were only in 13 decks, mostly mainboard.

Well for one; 5 moxen + lotus + sol ring + mana crypt > Null rod.
Thats probably the main reason null rod is rarely run, most decks get hit themselves by it as well.

I believe there was a Stax deck some time back that ran maindeck null rod and cutted most of the artifact acceleration. I don't have a list so you would have to look it up. (not really into stax)
