I'd like to congratulate wonkey_donkey as the winner of 3cb tournament #56.
The upwelling and trinisphere meant that cheating the limit by playing more than one land was the way forward, and consequently the two-land decks finished very high up. An interesting format, nonetheless.

An impossibly hard to calculate format, in many cases! Please check your results very carefully. I'm thinking that were we to do this again, banning man-lands may help, although it's far from clear! I don't think I missed anything on the banned list of a great deal of note, though, and it seems to have provided an interesting metagame. Well, back to normal for next time - suggestions for special formats for the future would be appreciated.

Please post corrections/discussion (there's bound to be some of the former this time!).

Ah. That might explain something... I would have said something to you earlier, but I kept on thinking that there were decks that you could beat and hence I kept quiet. Sorry!

That was not good. I thought Undiscovered Paradise would let me metagame against LD because (so I thought) it returned to my hand in my endstep, messing up the Ponza-style decks I thought would be out in force with sorcery-speed landkill. In fact it doesn't return until my next untap, making the whole idea worthless. Next time, read the cards :-/

2. combo_dude -   Piece By Piece -   Dust Bowl,   Crystal Vein,   Leveler

This is the only one that really strikes me as being off (*sigh* Why wasn't Meddling Mage banned? It's no fun not to actually play a spell, especially as Mage comes down on Turn 2 still):

vs Combo_Dude: Even if he goes first, I'll still get to 3 mana in time to Show and Tell the Form of the Dragon out.  Once I do, he can never attack (I don't believe he gets even a single attack with the Leveler) and I simply deal out 5 damage a turn to him and kill him.  He can't kill my Island either (Dust Bowl goes after non-basics only), so that ensures I get to 3 mana.

You have 4-1, his favor; should be 6-0, my favor.

I feel sure that I've recorded a 0 score somewhere, I'll see if I can find it if it exists...

A couple of corrections for my (crappy Very Happy) score:

On the play, I beat deck two by getting to Drain mana before he can drop Leveller (Dust Bowl doesn't affect basic Island).

On the play, I can draw with deck seven by Draining whatever he plays first and then playing Dragon as a morph with Drain mana, which forces a trade of some sort.

On the play, I beat deck 16 by Draining Hippo and casting Dragon as a morph (Capsize lock costs 6, morph costs 3 so I will get some hits in eventually).

You're all right on all counts, with the exception of 7vs9 - playing the hippo first will guarantee that the dreamsower gets into play, and then the dragon will just get tapped after every attack. Remember shadow ensures it will get through. I'll change the results later tonight when I've got more than 1 minute to spare!

I re-read Dreamsower, and realised it doesn't have to stay tapped... Then I thought some more, and realised that I don't Drain Hippo, I just play my morph after Hippo is played, block it, and Drain Dreamsower if/when it turns up, which leaves a draw.
