First, The announcement for this was originally posted here

http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/index.php?topic=22608.0

It was an amazing tournament. Great crowd, great atmosphere, and did I mention a great crowd again? I, of course, was the one who was playing games of Mental Magic for picks from my rare binder as a side challenge, as Tyler(TJ Whoopy) said I would be doing all day. Congratulations are in order to Andrew , who forced a draw with me, and Jason, who I played when the final round was going on and was the only person to defeat me all day.

Once again, I want to thank all of those who attended. I had a great time, and i hope everyone did as well. Special thanks to Dan at Myriad for making this tournament known, and to Tyler Huff for bringing tons of people in. We had a huge 51 people show up which even made chairs into a hot commodity.

And without further adieu, here are the deck-lists for the top 8.

That’s about it. I had a blast meeting people from all over New England, and I have made some friends that I hope to keep in touch with. Going to The 99 afterward was a great time, where we could reflect on all the good things that happened over the course of the day, and how to correct the bad things. It was also nice to just shoot the shit with a great crowd of people.

Thanks to all those who came. I hope to see you at the Beanie Exchange on May 29th.

Special thanks from Savage New England. This was a great event and would recomend every who can attend the next one (but  bring chairs and tables if you're bringing lots of people). We would have liked to have made the 99 run, but we had a two hour drive ahead of us, maybe next time.

chairs and tables will not be a problem again, more chairs are being purchased today to avoid having the same thing happen again.

I didn't mind the chair thing at all. I mean who would have though 50 + people would have show up? I'd much rather come to an event that is so good that it attracts way more then expected, then go to an event and have not enough people.

And to be fair, it really wasn't that bad, the store really busted ass to get everthing in order as quick as possible. Plus, a turn out like this goes a long way to convincing the owners to do more, and keep doing power events.

so yea, uh

This tournament was a lot of fun and run well after the initial mess up, but with that attendance Prize support should have increased a lot.  750 dollars just from the entry fees and only about 350 in prizes, if your generous on the price of the mox due to condition.

we didn't really have anything on hand to add to the prize pool, we were expecting MAYBE 30 people we simply didn't have anything else on hand to add to the prize pool, also remember that free random givaways all day long.  It saddens me that someone would complain about paying $15 to enter a mox tournament when EVERY OTHER tournament currently being held for a mox has a minimum entry of $20 usually more. I thought we all got a pretty good deal. Guess you really can't make everyone happy.

most of the extra unexpected income will go to buying more chairs and tables for the next event, hope to see you there.

I personally gave away around $70 in prizes out of my own pocket. I gave out pretty much everything I could spare as a door prize. The turnout blew me away as well. I was telling Brett to list up random names until I basically ran out of stuff. If you didn't get a door prize, I'm sorry. I got tapped out. Thank you for coming regardless.

I know I walked away with

1 Wasteland
4 Ancient Tomb
1 Rishadan Port

in door and top 8 prizes, which ends up getting me more then my monies worth back. I know others got little things like signed FOF, shackles etc, and other random type rares.

Would more prizes have been better (especially at that turn out) sure. Was the prize structure bad? No.

I honestly think this was a case of an event bringing in WAY more people then expected, and them just not really having the Type 1 inventory to cover the kinds of prizes we expect for 50+ people. Last time I went to NH 2x midnight was for a Mishra's Workshop, and they also ended up giving away sets of non-blue duals to everyone in the top 4. Between that, and the other door prizes, I got the impression that 2x midnight was far more interested in building a solid type I player base, then making a huge profit.

I think this still stands today, and I expect more good things from NH in the future.

All the players that travelled from Ireland would like to thank all the organisers and judging staff hope to see you all again

As for card choices this was a no proxy event so you can never be sure what your going to play against and some variation is needed to cope with such variety, the randomness i observed during 9 rounds was no different than that at gencon last summer.

I'm guessing the above post was intended for one of the french championship threads, (as we had 10 proxy's, and no irish people)

Lodestone + Time Vault = Infy fat Lodestone. I guess that's better than Howling Mine/Winter Orb/Static Orb tricks.

Yeah, I was there. I was the guy who sucked. I beat one guy there, and it was somebody I rode out there with. I really liked the store though. The owner was very nice. He even told me I was winning once, and not to tell anyone else. I am looking forward to the next time I get to go out there.
