Agent Orange
{2}{B}{B}
Sorcery

Destroy target forest and target green creature.

Ergot Poisoning
{2}{B}{B}
Sorcery

Destroy target plains and target white creature.

Agent Orange was a toxic defoliant that saw frequent use during the Vietnam conflict. Ergot is a fungus that infects various cereal grains, particularly rye. It has hallucigenic effects and is cited as a possible source of werewolf myths during the Middle Ages.

These cards were originally built around the name "Agent Orange" (which I'm not sure is technically appropriate.) As a defoliant, it seemed natural that it would destroy forests. As a toxin, it seemed natural that it would kill creatures. Killing just a green creature added to the flavour of the card. From there, I wanted to create a similar, analogous card (like Slay and Execute.) The flavour behind Ergot Poisoning is somewhat weaker, since I don't think it's actually fatal, but unless somebody has a better notion for that card's flavour, I'm going to exercise artistic license and leave it as it is.

Comparing these to Slay and Execute, I think they're costed appropriate. {3}{B} would be possible, but to go any lower really pushes Slay and Execute toward obsolescence. Not that they're particularly good cards, but they are also full of flavour; I'd rather not push them out entirely.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

i think that at 2BB, making it and/or wouldn't hurt.  At least then it's more useful in limited

I agree, by focusing on one color the card is narrow enough already, adding another condition as well is not needed.  At all costs we should avoid making another Decimate  Cool

I like that idea. Hull Breach's wording, it is!

In fact, I don't know whether this would be too good in Limited, but would 1BB with "Entwine 1" be any better?

Also, I assume that this is something of a given already, but the names would need to change, although they are fairly good descriptions of the card.

Giving them entwine would probably be okay, mechanically. I'm not going to do that, though. One, I think they're okay without entwine, so I don't need to push them. Two, adding entwine now limits their accessibility for future set construction. If we later create a set with entwine and decide that these would fit well in it, then we can consider adding entwine. Finally, the names may be a bit prickly, but I am reluctant to change them. Agent Orange is definitely a bit out of place, but it's an extremely cool sounding name and it perfectly fits the card's flavour. Ergot Poisoning actually should be fine, since there's no reason to suggest that infected rye is possible only on Earth.

These remind me of Reign of Chaos.

I don't think Agent Orange should be a Magic card. Ergot Poisoning sounds kind of cool though.

Seconded. It would (should?) never happen.

All right. I will go with the somewhat bland "Toxic Defoliant" for the time being then. It's an adequate name and we can always come up with something better.
