Vitalizing Sage
{3}{G}
Creature – Human Druid
2/3

When Vitalizing Sage comes into play, untap target creature.

***

Two concerns come with this card. One, is it appropriate for a sage to have a power and toughness of 2/3. Two, this card comboes with Kiki Jiki. I find this latter fact very unfortunate, by the way, because I don't think that untapping a creature as a CIP effect is at all broken and to the best of my knowledge, it hasn't ever been done before. The first concern I mentioned can be rectified by changing this creature's name (I rather like the numbers where they are.) The second problem, however, cannot easily be fixed and may result in this card being scrapped as a matter of course.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Current Wording:

Vitalizing Sage
{3}{G}
Creature – Bear Druid
3/3

When Vitalizing Sage comes into play, if you played it from your hand, untap target creature.

Using the "if you played it form your hand" clause would fix it.

I agree that the numbers seem right, and I think 2/3 is just fine for a Sage. My only concern is that this actually may be underpowered - I guess it's fairly good to be able to use multiple tap-cost abilities, or to retain a blocker after a big swing, but is it worth one-and-a-half or so extra mana?

if it could be played as an instant, it would make a hell of a combat trick.  Would it be too good then?  If so, you could back it down to 2/2.

How about I increase the power and toughness to 3/3 and make this into a "Troll Shaman" to compensate for the increased power? That makes it a respectable common creature.

Every Troll printed to date has regeneration, and rightly so. I liked it as a Druid, and there's nothing saying a Druid can't be 3/3 - Druid p/ts are generally low, but in actuality have a pretty good range. Typically it's the Nantukos that are stronger, but really, I don't see why Human Druid wouldn't feel fine.

Elephant shaman?   Smile  They already made a trumpeting elephant (armadon) I think; that would have been a good name for the concept.

I could see it as a Loxodon, and it'd be perfect at 3/3, but a) I don't know if we want to borrow another block's race like that and b) it'd have to be white. Other than that, I like that it's a Sage, and non-Loxodon elephants aren't exactly sagely.

I know. There isn't much precedent for this, but since our set is a hodgepodge anyhow, there's no reason why I can't just anthropomorphize some standard creature type. Hereby, this is a bear druid.

I was going to mention Werebear as an example that Druids don't have to be puny, but it seemed like an oddball. A true bear druid, though? Awesome.
