I'd probably go with Control Slaver or Oath then.  Just depends on what kind of deck you like to play (I like controlish decks).

buy a playset of all the blue dual lands and fetches, 4 mana drains, and 4 force of wills.  those are the most important cards to own if you are allowed proxies.  after that its all about what you want to play.  When I first started playing type 1, i bought/traded for all the type 1 staples that are commonly played: the good tutors, yawg will, intuitions, welders, wastelands, etc.  just read up on some tournament results and check out the cards that are in, like, every single decklist.

try browsing the www.starcitygames.com vintage decks. I don't think they have posted the richmond decks up yet, but take a look at scg chicago. Those decks will give you a very good idea of what the format is like.
