Remove all spells on the stack from the the game.

Naturally, this is not the final name or flavor text, but I like this mini-Time Stop ability. I am uncertain about how to cost this; it's powerful, but narrow. Thoughts/Suggestions?

Looks pretty weak to me. Other than counter wars its just a normal counterspell. On the other hand, it's almost exactly like dissapate in practical application, and dissapate costs 1UU, so it's probably fair.

maybe also remove abilities from the stack?

I want it to affect abilities too, but i don't know how to word that. It also is a counter for storm kills, so it's not only for counterwars.

Okay, I see. Cool. I like answers to storm, becasue storm is crap. Plain and simple. Here's my idea for this card:

Take That!
UUUU
Instant
As you play ~this~, counter all spells and abilities on the stack. No new spells may be put on the stack while this is on the stack.

This one is a lot more powerful, but it makes it uncounterable.

No new spells may be put on the stack while this is on the stack.
I fear this will not do what you want to do. This effect is part of the spell effect, and hence will only be visible upon resolution. It will probably be a nightmare to "close the stack" correctly while playing a given spell.

I also think Matt has already done something similar.

It also costs UUUU to play and any storm combo (even TPS) can combo off before you get the fourth blue, heck I've even gotten slaver locked before I got my fourth blue mana. Even if the card became easier to understand what it did, I don't think that a card with a UUUU cc will get played because of it's only so-so ability. if the cc was changed to have more colorless mana in the cc it would be much more realistic.

I don't have any fast mana because Chalice for 0 takes them out.  It's really obvious to the elite magic community that you should try to play around Chalice.  Anyone who doesn't is dumb.  Moxes are really overrated anyway.  I have lands that are alot better.  And come on, LOTUS KILLS ITSELF.  How am I supposed to win the permanent race against Stax when LOTUS KILLS ITSELF???

I'll throw my idea of it in:

Nullify
1UUU
Instant
Nullify can't be countered by spells or abilities. Counter all spells and abilities on the stack.

Last word have never been played. This is stronger, since it can counter storm and abilities too, and can't be misdirected. The casting cost has been made a bit harder than Last Word, but if you think it's too strong I would opt for removing the uncouterability instead of raising the casting cost.

Maybe give it an ability so its always on top of the stack? Or maybe that won't work..

Maybe give it an ability so its always on top of the stack? Or maybe that won't work..

I was thinking of this concept myself (mainly for some interesting Type 4 cards), and the best wording I came up with was:

While ~this~ is on the stack, no other spells or abilities may be put on the stack.

Of course, I've never liked cards that sort of 'break the fourth wall', so to speak. I know not many people do this, but if someone were actually trying to think of their game as a duel of planeswalkers, what the hell is 'the stack' to a planeswalker? It's a rules thing, not a game thing; it has no in-game flavor. (Side note: It's for this exact reason I think Mirror Gallery is really really dumb. At least, the wording is.)

Okay, end rant. Technically though, the wording should work, but my only problem is that it's unclear what happens to triggered abilities that trigger when this spell is put on the stack (say, Decree of Silence or Standstill). Do they wait for this spell to resolve, then get put on the stack? Or are they just prevented from happening altogether? So I propose a minor modification:

While ~this~ is on the stack, no player may play spells or abilities.

That modification still won't stop triggered abilities, since they happen on their own and are not played. OR was that intentional?

Yeah, the only way to hit triggered abilities too is to word it 'players can't play stuff + triggered abilities don't trigger', which seemed a lot worse and messier. I figure this is enough of a rules-bender already.
