I'd like to congratulate Chifley and Nazdakka as the winners of 3CB Tournament #58. The card that seems to be currently in vogue proved dominant this time, and a very solid deck walked off with the top prize this time. Well done both!

And now for something completely different... this week, there was a monster performance from energy field, showing up in no less that 3 of the top 4 decks! Fadeblue, who originally came up with the winning deck (IIRC), was not here to see his creation's coming of age, but it was truly dominant this time around. Maybe it's time for Port-based decks to make a comeback? Meanwhile, the performance of my deck has led me to think it may be better leaving at least one or other of leveler and dreadnaught - big, fast creatures simply don't cut the mustard without either of these two. Further congratulations must be given to Nazdakka, who gave a truly dominating performance in this 16-plaer field - nicely done, sah!
Please post corrections/discussion, and don't forget to send decks to combo_dude this time around!

Bit of a crash after last time, really...I overrated Starke, especially, largely because I'd forgotten about exactly what it could destroy.

Cool, #8 How do I read the table correctly? Actually, you finished dead last, for the simple reason that your deck does absolutely nothing!

In fact, do you even own the tokens with Orchard? Doesn't it say "target player may put..."? That would imply that they own the token. It loses to every single deck.

It doesn't say target play may put, but target player puts. That however changes nothing. He can't win... ever.

Cool, #8 How do I read the table correctly? Actually, you finished dead last, for the simple reason that your deck does absolutely nothing! Yeah, how in the world did he 6-0 Virtual? @49 Cents: Your deck was the 8th one entered. Your position is given in brackets at the end of the table. To see your scores against each other player, go along your row of the table and that will give you your scores against deck 1, deck 2 and so forth. @rvs: The deck works, albeit not all that well this time! The tokens belong to the player who made them, not to the player who controls them, hence playing brand will regain control of either 1 or 2 tokens (depending on whether ostracize has been played). @matt: No idea. I think I was thinking about a different card to ostracize at the time. I'll change it. In fact, I've made a couple of errors with his deck - combo_dude's second deck also 6-0s it. Tom

Couldn't he manaburn to get more tokens, if necessary?

Yes, but I still don't see why he owns the tokens - he controls the card that makes the tokens, but isn't that distinct from control of the tokens themselves?

216.1. Some effects put token creatures into play. A token is controlled by whomever put it into play and owned by the controller of the spell or ability that created it. The spell or ability may define any number of characteristics for the token. A token doesn't have any characteristics not defined by the spell or ability that created it. The spell or ability that creates the token sets both its name and creature type at the same time. If the spell or ability doesn't specify the name of the token, its name is the same as its creature type(s). A "Goblin Scout creature token," for example, is named "Goblin Scout" and has the creature subtypes Goblin and Scout. Once a token is in play, changing its name doesn't change its creature type, and vice versa. Brand R Instant Gain control of all permanents you own. (This effect doesn’t end at end of turn.) Cycling 2 (2, Discard this card: Draw a card.)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I did not finished last IMO. I just burn to get tokens a while and then paly Brand to get like 5/6 tokens.. It's not great but hell it's fun. Greetz, Hugo

Greetz, Hugo If you find a problem with any of your matchups, I'll be happy to change them. As it is, said mistakes aren't all that apparent. I like the combo of brand and the orchard, certainly, but maybe a different support card such as Swords, Oxidize, Duress (most likely the strongest) or Shattered Dreams would be in order. Tom
