i was just looking at the card Sirocco

1R
Instant
Target Player reveals hir or her hand to all players. For each blue interrupt card in that players hand, he or she pays 4 life or discards that card.

Would this be good in some kind of combo deck to try and stop free force of wills on the first turn?
I am divided on my thoughts with this card, but it could devistate the opponents hand, or deal massive amounts of damage.
Let me know what you all think.

It was good a long time ago, in a different environment. REB is superior in modern vintage.

4 damage is just too little to make this card a replacement for many more usefull red sideboard or mainboard cards. And as said above, a person can easily spend the small amount of life and keep is spell then countering your spell or you could just REB it.

well vs blue you can almost think of this as a red duress of sorts and it is decent if you can capitalize on it, i however would not run it over REB but in addition to them.

I remember looking at this card a long time ago but concluded that it was simply to situational to be used for anything. The only deck I would imagine running it in is some sort of red burn. If you cast it turn 2 it will probably give a decent amount of damage, but by then they will probably have drain open. Furthermore later in the game they are likely to only have 1 or 2 blue cards in hand so it's nothing major. Price of Progress is 10 times as good as this card.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I also recently noticed a card that seems like it could be good in a fish build as a way to help against 5/3 or other artifact decks.

Magus of the Unseen

Any thought on this one?

magus has trouble because of its toughness and summoning sickness
if you take their juggernaut they can still smash your face with it
and people won't be ginving their mindslavers to you either
it would be decent if you didn't loose control at eot
but nothing stops you from trying and maybe you'll discover a great new tech
have fun with it

After a little more thought i think this might be decent in a red blue deck running welders.

  • At worst it seems like you can take a fatty every turn (wow what a tempo loss), but in the best case you can be welding their fat into useful artifacts that you wouldnt lose at end of turn.
  • If the opponent gets multiple artifact creatures on the board you can steal one to block. Hopefully detering any attacks.
  • You can also steal prison elements in stax and get rid of them more quickly. (Take a smokestack, then sacrifice it to itself)

His ability can also be available for use on the second turn, which seems like it could help when playing first.
