Given that Odyssey Block provided us with a cycle of common sacrifice-lands that were strictly better than Archeological Dig (Seafloor Debris, Bog Wreckage, etc.) I don't think there's any problem with creating a card that is very similar to, but also strictly better than Archeological Dig in another way (in this case, the ability to , sacrifice for 1C). It isn't nearly as powerful as it sounds, since it does cost a land drop. Lotus Petal, this is not.

Bump! Muahahaha! I have used my accidentally-granted moderator powers to unlock this thread and take it over. (The real moderators already know I've been given mysterious powers, so don't bother reporting me.) I happened to like this card, so I'm going to take over as its sponsor. I'm not sure where this card stands in terms of quality. It can generate 1C, if you're willing to take the tempo loss. Of course, Mirrodin's Core also generates coloured mana only with a tempo loss, although it can't generate coloured mana the same turn it comes into play. I reckon this is probably rare calibre, then. Could I have it come into play tapped to reduce it to uncommon calibre? (It can still sacrifice the turn it comes into play to generate C and it can generate 1C on subsequent turns, so it's far from bad with a CIPT penalty.) Current Wording:
Dying Oasis Land
, Sacrifice Dying Oasis: Add to your mana pool.
, Sacrifice Dying Oasis: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

As it currently stands, it's strictly better than Crystal Vein, so CIPT is probably required here.

I think a land that can produce more than one mana, one of which is of any color, could be quite problematic. I know this would be pretty busted in Long, that's for sure.

Hrrm... The reference to Crystal Vein gave me an idea. If Wizards can turn the "legendary" supertype into a real drawback, why shouldn't the "land" type be a real drawback. After all, there's a rule that says you can only play one land a turn. How about a land that really takes advantage of that penalty, then... Dying Oasis Land , Sacrifice Dying Oasis: Add to your mana pool. , Sacrifice Dying Oasis: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. *** The mana production of this land is really great, but it will never come without losing one's land drop.

This is the type of card that will only be good in combo and 'Haups-style decks, and terrible in everything else. That said, that was mainly true of things like Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors and Crystal Vein as well, so maybe this could be another addition to that list.

Agreed. Ephraim's most recent card is fair and doesn't obsolete any particular other card.

Ancient Tomb and to a lesser extent City of Traitors were very broken in extended, so much so that tomb is banned. I don't think thats the greatest comparison, as those cards are far above anything wizards will print in the future, and hasnt rosewater said that lands which produce more than one mana are pretty much off limits, as they are just too powerful, even with huge drawbacks like tomb and city of traitors? This just seems like theres no fair way it could be played, it would either not be used at all or it would be abused like tomb and city.

City of Traitors isn't really broken per se, and this is definitely worse. With City you can play it, tap it, then next turn tap it before playing another land and losing the City. You can get four mana out of a City, this can't do that. As City is still on the safe side broken, this is definitely fair.

Closed and added. This initial misspelling reminded me of this: The Savannah, IL winner of the Odd Business Names category was Poopy's Harley Davidson, whose sign boasted "Prices Cheaper Than Shit". Among the runners-up were two Boston hair salons, Oops! and Curl Up & Dye.
