Secret Key
2
Artifact
3, t: Remove Secret Key from the game. Target opponent cuts your library in the middle and you draw the top card of the bottom half into your hand. Play this ability only if you have 2 or less cards in your hand.

I thought this idea was somewhat interesting.... I can decide if its over costed or under costed, or even if it would see serious play. Just a fun idea I randomly had. Let me know what you think, I'm actually pretty flexable about this one Smile.

How is this ? I changed it slightly and fixed the wording glitch that Matt pointed out.

Is this more playable ? I thought about it on my drive home today and liked this idea.

There's relaly no difference between this ability and just plain shuffle+draw, is there? I suppose if you can get your library down to two cards... :/

I have to admit, of all possible variants of shuffle/draw, I think this one is the coolest. One, it doesn't disrupt any cards you've stacked on top, for whatever that's worth. Two, although ti is essentially shuffle/draw, it generates the illusion of the opponent having something to do with it, which is excessively cool.

Wait, what happens to your deck after this finishes resolving? Are you supposed to shuffle after cutting?

Am I missing something?

This appears to do nothing (other than act as a bad Affinity for Artifacts enabler) and have cycling 2+2 but you get a (nearly) random draw instead of the top card of your library plus you can't cycle it if you have 3 or more cards in hand.

I just don't see the point of this card.

I missed the fact that a sacrifice was part of the activation cost. I think that this should be more like a tome.  It could cost {3} to cast and {4} to activate or vice-versa. (Tomes are hard to cost, since Jayemdae sets the pace, but it's sadly expensive.)

Does anyone else think "cuts your library in the middle" will cause problems?  I forsee arguments over where "middle" is and obviously you're not going to count it each time.

Yeah this card is pretty bad. Paying 5 to draw a card is way worse than most colorless draw abilities. Having a shuffle effect + draw is probably worth more than just draw. The benchmark are cards like jayemdae tome, or browse. Otherwise you can just play something like chromatic sphere and draw a card for 1 mana.

For 1 time use, how about this:

Traveller's Check
2
Artifact
3, Tap, Sacrifice ~: Shuffle your library and then draw 2 cards.
