I wanted a flexible Pack enabler, and I was inspired by Proteus Machine and Brass Herald. Obviously the name needs some work.
Proteus Herald - 5
Artifact Creature
As Proteus Herald comes into play, choose a creature type. Proteus Herald is the chosen creature type.
X, T: Search your library for a creature card that shares a creature type with Proteus Herald with converted mana cost X, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your library.

I'm not sure if this should have its ability be a Pack ability, something like Pack 2 - but that really seems pointless. I like the ability where it is, but I could see putting it at a static cost, and possibly limiting the creatures that it tutors out. As it is, it's a much worse tutoring option than anything else available, unless you use it as a creature tutor.
Could we cost it at 4 instead of 5?

It should be "X or less" because it's really really annoying to search and forget that you don't have any 3-drops of the proper type left.

This is an interesting card. I like the tributes to Proteus Machine and to Citanul Flute. I love the tradeoff between giving Citanul Flute a 2/2 body and limiting it to finding just one creature type. Bravo.

Wouldn't "Search your library for a creature card that shares a creature type with Proteus Herald with converted mana cost X or less" be less awkward as "Search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost X or less that shares a creature type with Proteus Herald"

Would it be too strong to add, say "Pack 3: creatures of the chosen type get +1/+1"? (Obviously, the pack # can change.) I see the homage to Proteus Machine and Flute, but still, it's not like it's tooo powerful a card as is....

There's no point in adding the Pack ability - you might as well make it a static pump. I think at that point you're starting to push the power level of the card into unpayable as the cost increases.
By the way, I forgot about Flute when I designed the card, it was more of a mix between Proteus Machine and Brass Herald, hence the name.
At any rate, I'm not against the change, but I think it is trying to put too much onto one card.
