Hi everyone, Can someone recommend a good playmat? It only recently ocurred to me to get one, but they don't have any where I usually play. If you can recommend a brand and/or website to get one, I'd really appreciate it. I know StarCity doesn't carry any, and the ones they have available on Troll & Toad don't have photos or size information, . Luiggi

If the ones on Troll and Toad say anything about being gray, or having the art of Ed Beard on the borders, then that's the one you want, hands down.

http://www.thehardlessons.com/I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Unfortunately their descriptions don't say anything about color or who did the art, . I e-mailed their Sales Dept., and hopefully they'll be able to give me that info. I'll keep an eye open! Yeah, I've seen those. Don't the dimensions seem a bit large? It seems that 14"x26" would be too large a space to take up, especially at a crowded tournament... Thanks for the suggestion, . I looked at the pics, and wasn't too crazy about them. I only play Magic, and it seems like they're better suited for other games. Thanks anyway. Luiggi

The size is perfect, and it's easy to take it with you. If the table happens to be too small, just fold a small part of it. But I always feel I actually need all the space you get from this playmat. I can only recommend this one (I use the one without anything on it), because it's the only one I ever used

No room in the house exceeds a length of twenty-five feet, let alone fifty feet, let alone fifty-six and a half feet, and yet Chad and Daisy's voices are echoing, each call responding with an entirely separate answer. In the living room, Navidson discovers the echoes emanating from a dark, doorless hallway which has appeared out of nowhere in the west wall.

Fair enough, . I think I might also be overreacting, since the Vintage tournaments I play in NYC rarely draw the hundreds of people that show up to a PTQ, which means we have a lot more space to work with. I'll look into getting one of those if I can. Luiggi

Thanks for the suggestion, . I looked at the pics, and wasn't too crazy about them. I only play Magic, and it seems like they're better suited for other games. Thanks anyway. Luiggi I have actually been waiting for a response as to whether or not they can be slightly altered; ie change the 00-90 column to another 0-9 one. that way you have 3 rows of 0-9 giving you a possible life total of between 0 and 999. It gives you a spot to keep track of your opponent's life, and has a red zone. What about just a regular ol' placemat? Find a nice cheap fabric placemat. Then go out to your local Staples and get some iron on transfer sheets. Print whatever you want on the transfer sheet and iron it on. Heck Ikea should have some kind of cheap plain fabric placemats in various colors. I was thinkin of doin this. Then I could put on the mana symbols and make it all spiffy and stuff. Get a white one and put your favoite card art on it. Heck you could put your name on it so no one can punk your spiffiness after they sit and oagle across the table, or it can be returned to you if you happen to leave it anywhere.  You could also put a pic of Shooter McGavin lookin at your opponent with a speech bubble sayin "I eat pieces of s**t like you for breakfast"  or that dude from the old folks home sayin' "You're in my world now Grandma!".  The possibilities are endless.  And the cheapness of Ikea with the relatively inexpensiveness of the transfers would allow you to make a new playmat for every tourney you go to.  Pimp it out. j

I just bought a vanilla brown one from Troll and Toad like two years ago, and had Rebecca Guay draw a space ninja in midflight on it.
Nobody can compete with fucking space ninjas man. Don't even bother trying.
Did I mention it's a hot chick space ninja?

You should open an account with PayPal ( http://www.paypal.com), so you can pay for things online without needing a credit card. You can link your bank account to your PayPal account, so you can make transfers from one to the other (they're free, but take a few business days). That way you can order stuff online from eBay and whatever other stores accept PayPal. Hope this helps! Luiggi

hah upon reading this thread, I didn't expect to see a post like this! I think making your own mat would be an adventure, or would make you extremely gay ... or maybe both ... To be safe, I'll just buy one off Ebay/Troll ... hahaha Plus making one on your own is just far too much work! (/me is lazy)

Plus making one on your own is just far too much work! (/me is lazy) It depends on what pic you put on it. If you are puttin Elton John on it then yes, that would be gay, not that there's anything wrong with that (and I dont even watch Seinfeld, stupid cultural osmosis). But if you did a good enough job I bet you would get a few inquiries as to where you got it. j

I think making stuff is totally cool.. look at all the coolest people in history. They all made stuff. Cars, lightbulbs, iPods, beer the list goes on.
I for one made myself some dice out of walnut, and constantly get asked where I got them from. If you're thinking of making a playmat, I would go to a leather store, and pick through their scrap bins. you can probably find some nice leather there of a decent size. Which in turn would make a killer play mat. Furthermore, if you created your own playmat you could put whatever you wanted on it!
