Hail to you, Rules Guru !!  Very Happy

Well as said in this topic title, I have some questions about Nether Spirit and his "Return to play" effect :

1) If I have Squee(s), Goblin Nabob with a sole Nether Spirit in my graveyard, can I return the Squee(s) to my hand then the Spirit into Play ?!?

2) If I have Undead Gladiator(s) instead of Squee(s), is it working the same way ?!?

3) If, at the beggining of my Upkeep Phase I discard a Nether Spirit to return an Undead Gladiator from my graveyard to my hand, Does the Spirit return to play thereafter ?!

Squee & Spirit are triggered effect, Undead Gladiator's capacity is an Activated Ability, does they all go to the Stack ?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Soon.

Nether Spirit has a triggered ability that is put on the stack if the condition for it is met when your upkeep begins (so is the sole critter when starting your upkeep) and is only put into play if that condition is met when the trigger resolves.

So case 1 and 2 don't work, because the trigger never takes place, because it is not the only creature when your upkeep begins.

Case 3 does not work, since the spirit misses the time the trigger takes place. First all "At the beginning of your turn" triggers are checked, then you are allowed to start messing with your stuff. Then the time for other "At the beginning of your turn" stuff has already past.

Final example : Suppose you have a masticore in play, and a nether spirit as a sole creature in the graveyard. If you discard a creature to masticore before returning the spirit, the trigger fizzles. If you stack the discard trigger first, then the return trigger, then you do get a free critter.

Hope this clears it up.

So The Nether Spirit return effect can't trigger if there is another critter at the beginning of the Upkeep... I was wondering if you could stack the effect, clear you graveyard of other critters, then check for the ability to resolve.

Well, I was wrong  Razz

Man, it's a real pain in the ass for my Nether-Go and MBC... but thank you for the explaination !  Sad

C ya!
