A friend of mine and I are having a discussion wondering what happens. We know how the combo works but we need to know when do you corecctly tap the Vault. My friend Says you cannot let a counter resolve on the Vault or the combo ends.

He believes: Untap vault, in response to untapping the vault, ping you.

I believe: Untap vault, in response to adding a time counter, ping you.

The oracle text of Time Vault is:
Time Vault comes into play tapped.
Time Vault doesnt untap during your untap step.
Skip your next turn: Untap Time Vault and put a time counter on it.
Tap, Remove all time counters from Time Vault: Take an extra turn after this one. Play this ability if only theres a time counter on Time Vault.

Also my friend believes you can't have more than 1 time counter on it, apparently this is wrong now. Someone please help me.

There is no limit to the number of counters you can put on time vault.

The Time Vault is untapped at the same time the counter is put on it, which is during the resolution of the ability you activated by skipping a turn.

It isn't really important though.  After it untaps and puts a counter on itself, you can use the Ping ability.
