Yeah, sorry about that... I was busy in the Swiss knocking all the workshop players out of contention; and showing them why Stax is a bad deck.
My bad.
Using your Welders to Uba lock Stax out of the game is good times, good times indeed.

Mana Drain targeting Tobi's "You're it."
Untap. Draw. Four Mana Floating during my first main phase; Cast a Mindslaver and activate.
During Tobi's draw step I make him say "Slaver rules and Workshops Drool," and then cast Ancestral Recall targeting me.

Hey, you can't take all the credit here. I regretably took out a fellow Canadian, Marc Sims in the first round. Then later in round 7 defeated Keean Handy who made the game 3 Chalice at zero play against me.   Ironically, it was only a game because of that misplay. Otherwise I had a godly hand of: Fetch, Mox Pearl, Crucible, Pithing Needle, STP, Standstill, Seal of Cleansing.  My first draw was Mox Sapphire, followed shortly by some FoW's.  I should also mention I was playing OFM a U/W Canadian Fish variant that Stax should never, ever, ever lose to under absolutely no circumstances unless my opponents are terrible players.  I feel soo lucky.

Oh yeah, one comment to the Canadians about their Old Faerie Men list. It was such a huge help that you all copied the list from the same source, so every one of your lists were in the exact same order. I was able to just look at list to see that all of them were identical so I could just do a straight copy/paste after the first one. If more teams can do that when they're playing the exact same lists (or nearly identical), that would be a SAVAGE help. Thanks yo.

Yes, we do that specifically so there are no possible deck list errors. I had 3 deck checks done on me and was glad to have 3 other people look over my list. One of my opponents received a game loss due to incorrect deck list registration. Strangely enough he ended up being my loss in swiss. Anyways, glad we made things easy for you.

Thanks for all the decklists JD.
When i look through them all i do not see overly much innovation. Most decks there have been here a long time. Is that a trend in the states??

I'd really like clarification what exactly this term "innovation" means in the phrase "lack of innovation". Because when I look at the top 8, I see a lot of new and interesting things, even though they happen to be quite subtle. Are we talking about (the lack of) radically different archetypes? Entirely new draw engines or kill mechanisms?
I'm not trying to be defensive here, I'm genuinely curious.

Yeah, that was me. I actually took 20 points from one and then two attacking welders. I probably drew about 20 cards but couldn't find a b-ring to save my life!

I think the word "innovation" in Vintage has changed in meaning significantly in the past year. Whereas several years ago, this meant consolidating the top decks and streamlining them as much as possible, currently there is an element of boredom in this word.
Steve has posted before that playing Control Slaver is un-innovative, and with along with some other premises, bad for the format. However, Control Slaver is a good deck and may very well win you the next tournament you go to. I think that is how most players measure the inherent goodness of a deck. As far as innovation provides a competitive edge, or takes advantage of metagame stagnation, it is an excellent factor for the growth and development of the format. However, this opportunity is not always present, and it is at these times that innovation becomes meaningless. Team secrecy and monopolies on talent can basically change the metagame however they want through publishing and tournament flooding, and can criticize other players for not doing this - basically, for not being part of a larger influence on the format. This is bad for the format, even if it changes what decks people play.

The lack of innovation that i mean is the lack of radical new decks. Innovating by changing 1 or 2 or even 5 cards is honing a deck, not innovating it. What i seem to see in this list of 108 decks is people trying to win a tournament with a netdecked list of cards with minor new things in them. A year ago this very same list of decks could have been printed as well. It almost seems that people are afraid to try something new and fail hopelessly. Even the lowest places could have been on the upper tables if you look at what decks were there.
I can understand these sentiments as my time to play and think about magic is dwindling as well. However i always keep trying to invent something new and every once in a while i will bring some concoction to a tournament and either fail miserably or do well. The problem with playing a new deck, when it doesn't do well on the first tourney entrance it will get the stamp of being not good enough. Perhaps it is, and perhaps it isn't. But because it didn't do well enough nobody else will be giving such a deck another thought. That way a lot of roads will never be travelled and a lot of decks will never get fully developed.
The good thing about netdecking is that people that do that will not know a) the community, b) the metagame and c) the surprises you may encounter. This actually takes care of that group that does absolutely nothing for the community but attendance. This is the group you actually can surprise while playing and that is the group that actually will miss certain plays due to the brokenness of the format. So the best players in the end will surface.
So i am not necessarily saying no innovation is a bad thing, i am just sad it does not happen more. Some deck ideas are just tossed away to easily as "people" say it is not good enough. Those same people keep playing the same decks over and over again honing their skills and winning or at least doing well with those decks. But no, innovating is not changing one or two cards in a deck.

Hey don't feel bad, if anything you were the one competent Stax player that I played in NY. In fact I'm pretty sure you crushed me game one. P.S. Innovation sucks because it killed my Keeper deck.

Is it just me or do the 3 slaver lists all differ quite substantially (4 cards, which in T1, is a lot, whne you consider gifts and slaver are only off 10-12 cards). All this talk about slaver being dead and three DIFFERENT builds of slaver T8. Just an observation...

Please don't confuse SCG forum threads with reality. I can guarantee that real players didn't consider CS "dead".

Weird!
Weird? No, no workshops in the top 8 is weird. No workshops in the top 16 is f*cked up. If Magic was TV, this would be a Twilight Episode.
