I see this phrase (and its acronym counterpart: "ftw") getting used more and more often outside of the realm of Magic (City of Heroes, car forums, etc.).

If I'm not mistaken, it seems like Magic players have been saying this for ages, whereas it is a more recent addition to the vocabulary of the general public.

It seems unlikely, but is it possible that Magic started it all?

Not according to wiki, sadly. But I do think that its origins may well be in MTG.

Funny, I was just thinking about this particular acronym for the past little while, for the exact same reasons that RtS was saying.

I've been abbreviating it as 4TW, since FTW looks like that 90's acronym "F*** The World"

I predominantly use it in "LTPITB4TW"
