First I would like to thank Tom for hosting the tourney and putting up with top eight lasting over 3 hours. And I would like to apologize because I took no notes at all

I played my Metalworker staff deck
my list:

1 Ancestral Recall
1 mox sapphire
1 black lotus
1 mox jet
1 Time Spiral
1 Imperial Seal
1 Triskelion
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Sol Ring
1 Tinker
1 Trinisphere
1 Goblin Cannon
1 Darksteel Colossus
1 Mana Vault
1 Vampiric tutor
1 Timetwister
1 Memory Jar
1 Mana Crypt
1 Stroke of Genius
1 Tolarian Academy
1 Glimmervoid
4 Force of will
3 Chalice of the void
4 Metalworker
3 Thirst for knowledge
2 Chain of Vapor
2 Darksteel Citadel
2 Chromatic Sphere
3 Mindslaver
4 Mishra's Workshop
4 Vault of whispers
4 Seat of the synod
4 Staff of Domination

Side Board
4 Jester's Cap
4 Pithing needle
3 Blue elemental blast
2 Sphere of resistance
1 Sundering Titan
1 Triskelion

Round One
I'm playing a very nice guy who hasn't played magic in several years, and I play a first turn Tolarian Academy and he asks to read it, thats pretty much the story of this match.
round 2-0 day 1-0

Round Two
I'm playing against Uba Stacks

Game 1
I keep a sub par hand that has a chance to do well but he locks me down quick with Uba Mask and crucible wasteland.

Game 2
I'm on the play I get a worker down and I activate memory jar and I don't get anything good off it. The next turn I mind slaver him when he has a Smokestack with 2 counters I move it up to 3 and sac a bunch of his stuff, but in the end he recovers better then me and eventually wins.
round 0-2 Day 1-1

Round 3
Austin Smith playing 2 land Blecher

Game 1
I try to stop him with a force of will but he fights through it and wins.

Game 2
I get a force in my opening hand again this time I stop his Necropotence and I win with a colossus

Game 3
I get a force and a needle in my opening hand and I win with ease.

Round 2-1 Day 2-1

Round 4
I'm playing against a french replenish deck that runs Bazaar of Baghdad.

Game 1
I do a bunch of crazy stuff, I jar into a timetwister to shuffle his yard, I have a worker a staff and a colossus out at the time so its game over.

Game 2
I combo with ease on turn 3.
Round 2-0 Day 3-1

Round 5
Marcus Anderson playing Dragon

ID

round 0-0-1 Day 3-1-1

Time for top 8
Marc was paired against the only Neb. in top 8, 4 of the Denver people were on the same side of the bracket and I faced the remaining person from CO.

Quarter finals
I'm playing against Jim who is playing gifts.

Game 1
I'm on the play and I drop chalice zero and pass, thats pretty much the story of the game I keep him off tempo and I get a tinker colossus next turn or so.

Game 2
This was a very tough match, I take some hits from force and burns and I'm at 18, he tinkers Colossus and passes, I know he has at least 1 drain and a force that he gifted for. I draw a jesters cap I pass. He swings and puts me to 7 and passes. I drop a staff he drains, I thirst for knowledge and I force it, he drains the force. I then tinker for staff and drop a mana vault leaving exactly 4 mana open. I tap down his guy. he mystical tutors for yag will and passes. I drop Jesters cap and hit his will burning wish and timewalk and I pass. I tap down his guy until I have 3 artifact in hand for infinite.

Round 2-0 Day 4-1-1

Semifinals Marc Anderson Playing Dragon
We play very slow because the Denver people are taking forever to finish there match we actually finish before they are done with the first round.

Game 1
I get chalice 2 and 3 down and Marc scoops.

Game 2
He plays a turn 1 null rod but he used a mana crypt to do it. I have workshop and triple needle, and that is just dumb.

Round 2-0 Day 5-1-1

Finals
Denver Guy playing Gifts, this is after waiting 1.5 hours for their semi match to get done plus the layover from the quarterfinals.

Game 1 he makes the worst mulligan error I have ever seen. He keeps a no land no mox 3 force of will hand. Good game.

Game 2 he mulls to 6 correctly this time he drop and island and passes, I play a workshop and a sphere of resistance he forces it. He plays an island and tutors (I think). I play a land and chalice 2, he forces. He taps out to play something. I play lotus and jesters cap, good game.

Round 2-0 Day 6-1-1

Two of the three of us from Iowa top eight. And two were in semi finals, so all in all it was a success for the group as well as individually.

I leave with the ruby. Marc gets 4 tourney packs for his efforts, the guy who got second place got a box of tourney packs.

It was a lot of fun and I hope to be at the next one.

Round 2-0 Day 4-1-1

Just a few notes about our match-

Game 1 -
I mull to 4 w/ a hand that was something along the lines of land, petal, fow, blue card.  I bounced your board on turn 3 or so with Hurkyls to kill your Glimmervoid and left you with nothing but Academy.  We topdecked for something like 4 turns with my lone Island staring at your Academy.  Its then that you dropped the Chalice(0) which let you play a Chromatic Sphere to juice up Academy.  You pulled a Workshop next turn and went apeshit.  I finally ripped a second land but that couldnt do much against your board of Metalworker, Trike and hardcast DSC.  The turn before I would die I pulled a 3rd land to cast a pointless Rebuild.

Game 2 -
I never Mysticaled for Will.  We sat in a stalemate for several turns with you tapping my Colossus, while I draw mana sources and useless counters and you rip equally worthless stuff.  I eventaully Brainstorm into Land/Brainstorm/Mystical and then Brainstorm again into the Hurkyls that will let me win next turn.  However, because Im horrible, I get too caught up in the fact that I actually have cards that do shit that I forget to attack.  This allows you to draw an extra card w/ Staff since you dont have to tap my Colossus and between this and your draw for the next turn you draw the 2 artifacts you needed to go infy.

Not trying to offend you or anything, but why submit a report like this? It offers nothing to the community in terms of giving information on how to play the deck/interesting or important plays. Combine that with the lack of detail of each match, I dont see the point of reading something like this.

Well the resason that I did put it up was to get started in posting here and I figured that since the others who had played in the tourny had also posted that it I would give it a shot as well. The other reason was to get a chance to show the deck I created from scratch over the last 8-9 months.

Yes I realize that it was a poor tourney report but its a start, and this is actually just the report that I posted at my local forum and they all know a lot about my deck so I didnt take good notes. I actually hadnt thought of posting here the CO crew suggested that we get involved so I figured that I would be the first.

Mad slops to you.  I think posting a list with the matches you played and just a slight recall of said matches can be enough to spark interesting conversation and in the case of Jim's match, allow both players to recall what happened and to think about what the correct play was or see a mistake.  Thanks for the report, and the Colorado Crew looks forward to seeing you in Feb!  We owe you one.  A beating that is. Congrats on the win!

What was the turnout for the tournament?  What kind of decks were people playing? Were there any changes you would have made to your deck in retrospect?  This is the kind of stuff that spices up tourney reports!  Again, congrats on the win.
