(For reference, I'll now have both running in one thread - post any results queries or anything about the following tournament in here.)

I'd like to congratulate Nazdakka as the winner of 3CB Tournament #70!
A special format didn't get as much banning as I'd hoped for, although the winning deck ironically featured a duplicate card, but it's only duplicates in other peoples' decks that are banned, so it's fine! Congratulations!

Most Obscure Card - Karoo (Godder)
Runner-Up - Hammerheim (Joblin Velder) [they were the only two cards I had to look up. Go figure.]

The question marks are because the matchups are very complicated - post suggestions.

Perhaps some people took "obscure cards" too seriously and others not seriously enough? I hardly feel ReAnimator can claim obscurity in his deck, which he's entered since forever Smile, but a complete lack of Energy Field or Mishra's Factory surprised me somewhat. I quite fancy my own deck's chances in regular 3 card blind, too; there isn't much that beats it without disruption.

Now, on to the next weeks' formats:

The banned list is smaller initially, so there may be some sort of sick deck for this week, but after each tournament, all cards used (except basic lands) are banned for the following tournaments.

The rules for this competition will be: Anything Goes! For Now!

Banned list:
Portal (in ALL its forms)
Unglued AND UNHINGED
[card]Black Lotus[/card]
[card]Nezumi Shortfang[/card]
[card]Blackmail[/card]
[card]Chain of Smog[/card]
[card]Encroach[/card]
[card]Mind Swords[/card]
[card]Strip Mine[/card]
[card]Wasteland[/card]
[card]The Rack[/card]
[card]Balance[/card]

NB this is subject to change within 48hrs of first posting.

What is 3cb?

3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows

Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand.
You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favour.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
For each win, you score 3.
For each draw, you score 1.
For each loss, you get nothing.
Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

To make an entry, PM your deck to combo_dude in the following format:

Subject: 3cb Tournament #71 Entry or 3cb Tournament#71 Revision
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

Optional Deck discussion, random sucking up, etc.

I'll close entries after 2 weeks. Get your entries in by 6th February and I'll calculate. As I said, the banned list may change within 48 hours of this post going up. After that, it stays as it is. This is not a reason to withold your decks, though - this is not a particuarly serious format! If something's broke, please fix it whilst we can!

Again, I reserve the right to refuse second decks, though you can initially submit them if you wish. Once again, the results are a lot later than expected - lots happening in my life that I won't go into, but things are settled for the forseeable future and so the next tournaments should run fine. They will start and end on alternate Mondays regularly, as opposed to the usual Thursday - this is a much better day for me at the moment. Again, apologies - I hope I can still generate interest in the format. I've unbanned some of the power cards: go break the format!

Wow, this is by far the highest I've ever placed.

My deck name is reference to the fact that I misunderstood the rules - I thought if you had a duplicate card, it would be taken out and you'd have to play with a two-card deck!

Gah! Wrecked by someone trying to play a terrible deck. He didn't even need City of Traitors.

Yeah, annoyance at that is reasonable enough, I think.

Also, due to a PM I was sent, just to clarify the rules for this tournament: Enter what you like for this tournament, as there is no rule about cards being banned if found in other players' decks. However, any card that is entered for this tournament will not be legal for subsequent tournaments.

The questioned match-up in my results goes my deck's way 6-0, since we make tokens at the same speed, but he can only brand once, whereas Outpost keeps making tokens forever.

Also, I can't in good conscience claim the bonus for most obscure card because MTG.com revealed that R&D's nickname for the common Ravnica Guildlands (the ones that make two mana of the appropriate colours) is Karoo-lands, because they modelled them after Karoo. I think it was in a column from Aaron Forsythe, which is quite well-read...

"Someone, I think it was ZoneSeek."

You have to be kidding me.

Um...clarification? It was you who started this up, wasn't it? I know it had been going for some time when I joined the boards, but I know you (or someone else with the boobies avatar Smile) were running them then. That's been attached to about the last 50 3cb tournament threads now.

And Godder (thanks for the result changes btw): I haven't read wizards.com for a long time - generally the only stuff I read on Magic these days is the occasional Legacy column and stuff written on or linked to here. So even if you can't claim the prize with a clear conscience, I can still give it to you with one!

Yes, it was I, ZoneSeek, Lord of the Universe ... who also happened to be Lord of the Three Card Blind.

Yeah... I used to run them.  3CB was one of the last magic-related things I was really in to.  I was doing -something- the other day that really reminded me of it so I decided to swing by and see if it was still going.  Glad it is.  Smile

More entries would be good, I haven't got many at the moment - sorry to all the regulars for whom 3cb dropped off the radar for a while, but a few more players would be great!

I don't think a format like this is well-suited to second decks; it doesn't really matter if the tournament is small, as it means fewer cards get banned, but it'd be nice to have a few more players. Having said that I have no time at all right now, so maybe I'm making a mistake in asking for more decks in the first place! Results will still be up on time though.
