Last time around was a lot of fun but I can't help myself.  I want a legacy tournament with slightly bigger prizes.  So here we go.

Where:  Pandemonium
1858 Middlebelt
Garden City, MI 48135
(734)-427-2451

When:  Saturday, April 8
   Sign-up begins at 1:00pm
   Tournament starts at 2:00pm

Format:  Legacy, REL1
Swiss rounds with cut to top 4, or top 8 based on attendance.

Entry Fee:  $10

Prize Structure:

1st = 4 x Underground Sea
2nd = 4 x Flooded Strand
3rd = $10 store credit
4th = $10 store credit

Last Place = Unhinged “Rod of Spanking” (I’ll try to get a foil one this time)
Top 4 prizes (and last place prize) are guaranteed.  For every additional 2 players above 14, $5 store credit will be added to each of the Top 4 prizes.

If you need anything for your deck at the last minute, Pandemonium has a good selection of singles, all the way from commons to a Beta Black Lotus, and most everything in between. Drinks and snacks are available on site and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

Awesome.

I definitely like this setup.

Though, if we do have enough to cut to Top 8 (which is unlikely), what would the 5-8 prizes be?

And yeh, I'll definitely be there.  Team Predict > you.

Oh man, that is soooo tasty Sad I'm pissed I wont be there.

A lot of people had better show up so that these keep happening.

Actually, a cut to top 8 happens at just 16 players, which is very feasible.  Making the top 8 cut, however, doesn't put a prize in your hands.  Top 4 prizeout will remain for now, but, if we start seeing attendance which merits a cut to top 16, then we will surely make adjustments to secure prizes for 1st-8th.  I hope that answers your question.

I was at Pand3 today (for Type 2 X_X), and a bunch Legacy players there (the guys who finished 2nd and 4th among them), and they said they'd be there for April 8.  Pande's also doing a good job of promoting it (ie, already have flyers for it), so I'm hoping for a good turnout.

In fact, I will be there.

It is kind of creepy, because we read everything you [guys] post, but never reply ourselves.

I will be coming along with probably four other guys, and for those of you who are a bit lacking in the math department, that is 5. So we will make up about a 1/4 - 1/3 of the metagame, go us.

I was talking to some guys during the Two-Headed Giant tournement today (that I happened to do incredibly poorly in,) There are a lot of 1.5 players in the area, there always have been, and they are willing to travel to play. I wonder if there is a better way to network the message.

And as far as the prizes go, a set of Underground Sea is really good, but, in the future, I would like to see a less top-heavy prize structure, but that is just me.

I wish this had a bigger prize, as it stands it isn't worth the drive from Cincy.

I hope you guys get a good turnout for the next few months. I'm looking forward to playing at least three legacy events over the summer semester.

@bomholmm.
Watch for a larger prize event in the future.  SpencerforHire has been talking about running a Mox or Lotus event.

Thanks to Tim at Pandemonium, we have the Foil Rod of Spanking for last place.  I am wondering how people would feel about having the card signed by the 1st place player.  Yes, I do have a weird sense of humor.

I liked when it was signed by the judges - but signed by the first place player would be pretty funny too.

w00t.

I'm getting excited for this one.

I've already kicked testing into high-gear, so I'm pumped.  Tim at Pand3 says they've been giving out a lot of flyers (they only had one copy left on the counter when I was there last Saturday), so I hope thate leads to a good turnout.  Actually, I guess I'd be happy with the same amount as we had last time.

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be the only Team Predict member showing up, seeing as Spencer decided to do something stupid and will be hanging out with his girlfriend that day, and he's Darren's ride.  And Matt just...won't be there.  What a bunch of losers -__-.

P.S.: What are you guys playing? Cool

I'll be playing... my guitar... and doing my best to beat you.  I actually hope to see you at the finals tables this time.  I only hope I can be there too.

Thats too bad about the rest of your team.  They really brought a high level of playskill to the tables.  However, if I were in Spencers place, I'd do the same thing.  Girlfriend w/implied benefits > Magic.

I have a bit of good news: Affinity Kid is not  coming (Yes, I am responsible for unleashing him on you.) We have replaced him with a somewhat better player. Affinity Kid was going to come, playing Berserk Affinity, but had to cancel because of some stupid thing or another.

All I can really say is that I hope the guy playing Ankh Tide, with Arcane Denial is there again.

Good luck to everyone (since I'm in Illinois and won't be making it). I hope that someone brings combo. I'll be playing vintage in st. louis trying to take Vroman's power (not going to happen, but I can dream) but I'm hoping to see a tournament report on how Iggy Pop with MD Leylines and Strategic Plannings owns the field at X-0 or something.

Oh, and if all else fails, run little green men. They're good.

Wow, a lot of people had to drop Sad

I hope the turnout is good - and if it's not, don't give up hope!! I'll be there for sure in the future. I can't come tomorrow because I'm in a play, but that's over in 2 days.

I better see a report up tomorrow night Razz

God, I'm such a bad Magic player X_x.

I finished in 5th.  The Top 8 was:

1. Life - Chris (Master_Shake)
2. Zoo - Dan (Cancerstix)
3. R/w Burn
4. Goblin Burn
5. 3C Confinement Slide - Richard (Me)
6. Goblins
7. RW Control (not of the Rifter variety)
8. 3C Gro (of the Dryad variety)

Broken down like this:
Top 8 (winner in bold)
1. Goblin Burn vs 8. Goblins
2. Life vs. 7. 3C Gro
3. 3C Confinement vs. 6. R/w Burn
4. Zoo vs. RW Control

Top 4:
Life vs. R/w Burn
Zoo vs. Goblin Burn

Top 2:
Life vs. Zoo

So yeh.  Very disappointing finish for me, especially because Burn is a good matchup for me.  Anyway, here's what I faced:

Round................Games... ...Matches
1. Mono-R Burn.....2-0...........1-0
2. Rifter...............2-0...........2-0
3. Goblins.............2-0...........3-0
4. Life..................ID..... .......3-0-1
Top 8. R/w Burn...1-2...........3-1-1

He had three Flamebreaks in his opening hand game 3, while I couldn't find a LftL to save my life (I had two Confinements in hand).  He disenchants the first one, and I ran out of steam for the second, so I let it die.  And then I drew the Loam.  Ah well, it happens.

I didn't take notes, and my deck functioned very well throughout (aside from the last match).

Props to Dan and Chris for taking top honors.

Dan should be writing a report.

Speaking of which, we had an amazing turnout of 21 people.  That is the awesome.  A few other things of note.  There was no Threshold or BW there, and there was also only one Combo deck, which was Salvagers-Gamekeeper.  There was also only one Blue-based deck, which involved Scepters.

This prize structure worked very well.  More people came because of the bigger prizes, so we should definitely keep that for next time.

The R/w control deck was another R/w Burn deck. It was a running joke from round two that he was playing Mono Red control. You probably overheard me blathering about how he was playing Mono-red control, and he corrected me, saying that he was playing R/w.

The Grow deck was about the strangest thing ever. Rug Based around playing a couplef cantrips for Grow, other cheap creatures that swing for more than you pay for them: Scab Clan Mauler, and Kird Ape. Also, a bit of burn and a set of Force of Will.

That Goblin Burn deck was terrible: No Vial, no Ringleader.

Man I better have a date for the next one real soon.  I shouldn't have bothered missing this one in the first place.  My deck was tuned perfectly for all the decks I have heard of so far (decks in the Legacy Format). Razz

Thanks again to everyone who came out to play.  Turnout was awesome despite missing several key players.  Next one should be the second Saturday of May...I'm taking suggestions for prizes this time...but lets leave breaking the Mox tourney virginity for Spencer.

May 13 should be good.  I have IB Exams from May 2 - May 19, but I should be able to take the weekend off.  And yeh, Spencer, get working on that Mox tourney.

(side note: holy shit, I graduate in 5 weeks.)
