From NorcalVintage website that can be found in my signature/qoute thingy at the bottom of Lunar's and my own posts.
TMD is for the world, NorcalVintage is for us Northern California guys (and girls. there have been 2 girls at Eudemonia 1. I saw em.) The full link is here:
21 players showed up for the event.
Lists should be up on
www.Eudemonia.net/p9 now or very soon.
Team Vacaville (Myself piloting TheGildedClaw.dec, Alex Block piloting Oath and Andy Griswold piloting Oath) placed all three members in top 8, making the drive home uncomfortable, as whoever makes top 8 get to sit in the to 8 section (shotgun) for the car ride home.
Top 8 includes
Webster (Ochoa) with Bob Tendrils
Michael Klemic with Slaver
Kevin Tiepelman with Slaver probably
Kevin Schambers with Homebrewed Stax (so I hear...)
Sam Smith piloting Slaver
Alex Bloch piloting Oath
Andy Griswold with Oath
LotusHead (Jeff Neilson) piloting The Gilded Claw
Top 4 was Kevin Something versus Webster (Web won with mini Bob beats and multiple mini Tendrils), and Andy Griswold versus Michale Painter (Oath beats Control Slaver. A lot. Not always, just a lot. like today. Mike mulled to 5 g1 and possibly 6 g2. Andy won)
Top 2 SPLIT!!! Andy and Ochoa split the "mox" for 120 bucks each and 12 pacts of some Magic set that will be out in a few weeks. (tight!)
My mini report:
Round 1: Smash Face versus Daniel's EBA deck. He hates Chalice for 2.
Round 2: Epic Classic Vintage games versus David Ochoa.
Game 1: I slap Ochoa around like a red headed stepchild with Chalice for zero, resolved Goblin Welder and stuff. OK, to be fair, he did Duress me to see Duplicant, MindSlaver and Memory Jar in my hand. All bad stuff. He gave me Jar (in the grave!) and I went nuts.
Game 2: He slaps me around like a red-headed stepchild by letting me drop soft locks on him (like chalice for 0 and 2 sphere's of resistance, possibly Leyline of the Void) and EOT Echoing Truth's my Spheres back into my hand so he can Tendrils me for the kill.
Game 3: AWESOME! I play first turn Shop, Sol Ring, Grim Monolith, Gilded Lotus, Chalice for 0, Tinker on Chalice for Sundering Titan. He plays first turn Tinker for Colossus! Turn 2, I play Triskellion. Turn 2 he smashes face. Turn 2 I play Leonin Abunas to soak up damage, but he hardcasts Force of Will, so my Trike gets chumping duties as my Titan turns sideways. Turn 3 he smashes face with Colossus. I chump with Trike, and ding him for 3. Turn 3 I topdeck Time Walk for the win!!! (otherwise, he would have been at 1 with a very pissed of Colossus waiting to exact revenge)
Round 3: I smash face on Galen playing Oath.
Game 1, Chalice for 2.
Game 2, he Oath's up Akroma, so I topdeck Gilded Lotus for Tinker Duplicant. He Oath's up Ancient Hydra, I hardcast Duplicant. Awesome.
Round 4: Cory playing Dragon. Game 1 I get an early Chalice for 2, then a mid-game Chalice for 3. Ouch. He was a tad bit upset that I had 3 wastes by turn 5 to deal with his 2 Bazzarrs by turn 2 plus any later Bazaar. He asks that I be deckchecked after the match. Sure thing buddy. EDIT: Upon retrospect, I did play a Grim Monolith into my Chalice for 2 late game, but I had so much mana out it wouldn't have mattered. I only noticed this while cleaning up the board.
Game 2: he timewalks for an extra turn and combos me out. I see no Leylines or Wastes. He again has Bazaar in opening hand. EDIT: I was told later that I could have drawn the game by welding in my Memory Jar and popping the Jar, thus killing both of us...

Game 3: I see no leylines or Wastes, but resolve an early Chalice for 2 and then Cap 3 of his remaining 4 3cc threats (Cunning Wish and 2 Necromancy) leaving 1 Necromancy safely hidden in his deck somewhere. Time is called, by my Mishra's Factory, spirit tokens and hardcast no-imprint Duplicant end things on turn 5. Post game deckcheck resolves: 4 Wastes, 1 Strip, 4 Crucibles, 4 Chalices.
Round 5: I could draw in versus Sam Smith, but "team considerations" make me play this match out. I have 12 points, he has 10, everyone else has 7 plus tiebreakers. He will likely get in no matter what and we play it out.
Game 1: I play threats and he Forces them, or Drains them into Thirst for Knowledge, and Forces more stuff. Unfortunately, he didn't find Welder. I eventually get Jugg into play and smashface.dec does what it does. Every turn I played whatever goodie that happens to come off the top of my deck.
Game 2: See game 1. He Drains and Thirsts and Forces and so forth, but The Claw just kept producing threats and no welders hit the field.
Whee! I make top 8!
I play against Michael Klemic playing Control Slaver.
Game 1: I get awesome hand that involves (i think) first turn Cap
I take whatever threats I see and note that he has 2 Welders left in deck (hence 1 or 2 still in hand). I tinker for Sundering Titan to kill his 1 land because I suck at Magic. Triskellion would be a MUCH better target as I frikkin KNEW he had 1-2 Welders in his hand. Oh, and I forget to do a specific Force/Drain/Brainstorm/Thirst count. That's how bad I suck sometimes. He comes back to pwn me with Welder after Welder and gets MindSlaver in the yard and so forth.
Game 2: He hardcasts and activates Mindslaver turn 2. This is after he Forced my turn 1 Sphere of Resistance play. Oh, and he still had Tinker for Colossus left in his hand. on "our turn" he has me destroy my 3 lands with my 2 wastelands and I Cap 3 broken blue spells from my deck and tap out to stare down Colossus. There are some hands you can't beat.
GG. I win a Force of Will for my efforts, to go to a "t1 enthusiest" in the area who has 1 Force of Will (and 12ish Duals 4 Welders and so forth in his collection. Maybe I can get some cool T2 Pimp stuff for it. He will lend me FoW for "team Vacaville..."
Props:
Team Vacaville for representing.
Andy Griswold for Splitting 1st/2nd with Ochoa. This is Andy's first top 8, much less split for win.
David Ochoa for being the man and not giving me Chuck Norris RoundHouse kics to the head (we are 8-1, me vs him.

).
Alex Block for Showing Up finally.
Eudemonia for doing the P9 series again, and trying to be special by having "Featured Matches". Hopefully, this is on the website too...
Slops:
Dragon Boy. Deckcheck Moi? I'm not offended in the slightest, just a little baffled. Statistical Anomoly? Wait till Ghost Quarter comes out. Try facing 9 strips! mwahahaha!. Again, no offense, but just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that everyone isn't out to cheat on you by pulling dirty tricks like "Uh...Memory Jar puts card in hand FACE DOWN??? as opposed to face up???" That was Team Vacaville's Analysis. (I was lone dissenter. I bought your arguement.). Find 10 good (different) T1 Deck Lists. Read the Oracle Wording on each card. (or even just read original card). Then call for "deck checks for potentially cheating opponents". Again, absolutely no offense taken. You don't know me, I don't know you. But as part of the T1 World Community: make an effort to know what you are talking about. No skin of my back (I just sat behind TheGildedClaw.dec and went with the flow), but T1, however competetive (in proxy environments) is still pretty casual. (even tho we are hardcore when it comes to rules...) If you called for a "deck check" behind my back, when I wasn't looking, like between rounds, while I was taking a Smoke Break, I wouldn't have noticed or anything. But to say "3 wastes in one game? how odd. Are you cheating?" is kinda noobish... True, this was 3 wastes by turn 5 or so, but still. Can't live without your precious Bazaar? Possibly it has a drawback and WasteLand is one of those Hosers that LOTS of people play.
Just educate yourself about T1 and what goes on (its all good. No hate here.) and you will grow as a T1 nameplayer.
