Hey, my name is Spider and I'm a vintage player local to Raleigh, NC
Hit me up if you want to get together and test some vintage.
We have local tournaments every 3-4 months at Sci-Fi Genre in Durham, about 15 minutes from Raleigh!

Ha, I forgot about this thread.

My name's Sarah, I registered here years ago, but apparently my login no longer exists!  I was really quiet the last time I checked TMD regularly, so if you don't know me from wotc, you probably don't know me.

I've been playing magic since 2001, and except for brief forays into the relatively unexciting world of standard/extended/legacy, I've been playing vintage the whole time.  My passion is deck building and testing.  I'm often available on mws for vintage testing, just shoot me a message.  You don't have to play a copy paste of a meandeck deck, but please don't play budget and please have a deck designed to compete in a real meta.

My pet deck for years was ubastax, and I love variations on that, but today's mud doesn't really excite me, so I'm trying new things.

If you live in or near Austin, TX, give me a holler, and maybe we can meet up.  There are never any real events here, though, so I'm not holding my breath.

Hey guys

My name is Jonas, I'm a student and I live in Switzerland. Together with Severin - known as Tempus on this forum - I organize Vintage events in which I also play. I play all formats but the one I care about the most is clearly Vintage. I play every blue combo / control deck there is, but occasionally try to catch my opponents off guard with something crazy and innovative.

I am also a feature writer on blackborder.com, you can find my latest issue here: http://www.blackborder.com/q/node/11359

I do play on cockatrice quite a bit, if you want to play me there, feel free to write me (black lotus).

I'm 25. Has been on and off for the last 15 years. I've just sold an almost complete playset collection over a span of 10 years because I wanted to use less time on the quantity of my cards. Will try to keep my collection in a shoebox, some deck boxes and a few binders. And concentrate my value on p9, duals, drains and other high value eternal stuff. Favourite format Vintage and Legacy. Favourite card Energy Flux. Favourite card in Legacy Aether Vial. Currently playing U(r) Jace Control in Vintage and The Gate in Legacy. I also do alot of trading, selling, buying.

My name is Patrick. I currently live around Kansas City and have been playing Magic since Ice Age. I started playing competitively in 2004 and almost exclusively played Legacy up until this point. While I plan on continuing to play Legacy, I am starting to transition myself away from Legacy into Vintage. My move toward Vintage would probably have been accelerated had the Open Series not offered me a chance to play Legacy on a somewhat regular basis. Additionally, I suspect that Modern will supplant Legacy as the second most popular constructed format sometime in the future. This trend toward Modern will likely attract new eternal players (which is awesome) but also directly trade off with Legacy players and support (Open Series events for example).

Regardless of external factors that may have influenced my decision, my primary reason is because of changing priorities in my life. I use to spend a few hours a day going over Legacy related material and/or testing. However, I am getting older (25) and find my interests changing. Between working toward a PhD and other commitments, I think Vintage offers a better way for me to manage my life and still include Magic as a part of it. I've always found the card pool and the skill intensity associated with Legacy to be appealing. I feel that Vintage offers an even greater opportunity to test one's mettle and the card pool is obviously more diverse...and powerful....and in general more awesome. I believe it would be more rewarding to travel to play Vintage since its the lower number of tournaments means each event attended is more significant. Finally, from a cultural standpoint, the grassroots support the community gives to Vintage is very appealing.

Overall, I'm happy to be moving toward Vintage and am looking forward to getting to know some of the members on this site. If you're in the Kansas City area and want to playtest, just send me a PM.

Dan Langevin, former storeowner and TO in Pottstown PA (Head Games) (right smack in the middle of Reading, King of Prussia, West Chester, and Allentown)

I've revisited Vintage and have completed my playset and am looking for a team in the area. I can contribute pretty much anything to a card pool. My weekends are open for travel.

Have complete vintage restricted list and playsets of all notables. I used to be well-rated in Vintage when I played before I opened my store in 2003, experience with combo and blue control but willing to test and play anything for the team.

PM if interested.

Allow me to introduce... myself.

My name is Reid Turner. I currently reside in Austin, TX and originally hail from Martha's Vineyard, MA.
I love mtg and am especially drawn to eternal formats. I have no experience playing competitive magic. at all. I have been a lurker on forums for many years. I started playing magic in 1995. I have no power. I am drawn to null rod/cotv and other cards that punish powered decks. I have no interest or ability to invest in power. Although I theoretically understand the power of and would like to play with blue, as I have no ability to invest even in FoW, I am drawn to other colors, and even find myself hating blue lately. I would love to play magic, so if you are in the Austin area and laying vintage or legacy, please let me know. Then again, even my paltry revised cards are in MA. As my actual application of magic skills and cards is very limited, I enjoy engaging in theoretical deck building and observing at this point. I understand that my skills and experience are far outclassed by those who actually play magic. I hope someday to build rogue/unpowered decks and have success in vintage. And I hate people who are all agg about [fill in the blank]. RELAX people, its just a game.

Greetings, everyone!  My name is Phillip Bergeman (the rookie shops guy who took 2nd over this past weekend at Bloomsburg).  I currently live in Jersey Shore, PA, and am a certified K-12 Music teacher (and soon to also have certification in 7-12 Math).

I've been playing mtg off and on since Ice Age, taking a major hiatus from Kamigawa until Lorwyn blocks for college.  I've mostly played Standard and Legacy competitively, with Vintage being more of a casual thing (due to an extreme lack of Vintage staples).  I've decided it might be time to change that, and so my friends from the local group that I usually play with suggested that this is the place to start if I want to get better at Vintage.  So I hope to have some lively discussions about the format, and continue to learn about the different nuances that make this format what it is.

Hi my name is Jumbo Poon and I'm a law school student from the Philippines. I've been playing magic since 4th ed (mostly casual with my brothers as I was only 7 years old then) and stopped playing after Mirrodin. Recently came back a couple of years ago, but I just started playing Vintage late last year. I'm playing Panther Stax now and I've top 4/8'd 2 of 3 events I participated in but I'm looking forward to moving to other shop variants such as Espresso and Martello (I loathe metalworker though, I don't know why).

A little help with the forum, how come I can't post in some threads? and I can't PM people as well. I also can't change anything about my profile (the account was jut set up for me by Brassman via TheSource). Thanks in advance!

Hello, my name is Doug and I currently live in Anchorage, AK where it is nearly impossible to find vintage players.  I started playing when I was in high school when a girlfriend introduced me to her Revised decks, and was instantly hooked.  I have dabbled in limited and standard, but vintage is what I started off playing tournaments (back when it was Type 1 and we had beyonddominia) and it is the best format, hands down.  If you have access to the cards, why would you want to play anything else??  Anyway, I have been out of the game a couple of times, but always come back.  I would like to become a more active member of this site and community.  My goals are to meet new people and become a better player.  Thanks for reading!

Hello everyone, my name is Steve. I am a long time mtg player but I am fairly new to vintage. I started playing in elementary school during the urza block and dearly miss the level of power standard once had. I took a break for most of highschool and just started playing again two years ago. Thus, given the current current state of standard, I became drawn to vintage. I hope to see everyone at tournaments as soon as I acquire some more vintage staples.

cheers,
Steve

Yo,

My name is Steve thecheese Colby. I'm from southern nj and I frequent top deck games. I've been playing nice 4 th edition with many breaks in between. Now that I have a family and a good paying job I find my time is limited. I enjoy a good draft but I wanted o do something more competitive. I thought about standard but the fluctuations in good decks and the constant cash hole that standard just deterred me.

Nick coss kept posting about his NEV tourneys.....I thought it was cool but really I didn't want to have to fly out to Nevada for the championships. Once I figured out that it stood for northeast vintage I became intrigued. I talked to nick and he convinced me.

I sold off my standard and wamachine figures I don't play with and have purchased a vintage deck minus power. I have a goal of obtaining all power. The great thing is the cost of vintage is not really expensive when he compare it to standard. I also see a tight knit community which is really cool. Hopefully I will be attending a nev event soon.

Hey folks, Jon Geras here from Team Ramrod in NEPA.  I've been able to play in about a half dozen Vintage events over the last year and half or so, and have really enjoyed the format and community.  I'm lucky enough to have met some great players and people and look forward to slinging cards with many more!  Thanks to Cap'n Chris Varosky and Mike Noble for finally getting me on "the drain"!

Hi everybody.  My name is Brian Woodhull and I live in the southeast Michigan area.  While I've been playing Magic off and on since '95, I only recently played competitively for the first time at the Meandeck Open in Columbus, OH. a couple of weeks ago, in which I had a top 8 performance with Dredge.  Kevin and everyone else were all very nice and it was assuring to be in a friendly environment after 4 hours of driving.

With that said, the Vintage scene in this part of Michigan seems to be just me.  I've been moderately successful introducing proxies to my magic playing friends but many of them still aren't past the "add fetches, duals, on color moxen and black lotus to my crappy legacy deck" phase.  Ohio is unfortunately a very long drive from where I'm at but I'm gonna try my best (schedule permitting) to be at as many "local" events as I can.  It's just too much fun.

Welcome to TMD Brian. If I remember correctly you're the dredge player who knocked me out of the Meandeck Open.  Don't worry though, I'll get you at the next one.

You should check your calendar for this The Team Serious Open It's quite a bit closer to Michigan than Columbus.

I don't know where you live in Michigan, but you should look at RIW Hobbies in Livonia. I know they used to have a thriving vintage scene chalk full of heavy hitters with Brian Demars pushing the format. It may be worth checking out. Plus, Kevin Cron is moving up there so maybe the Type 1 scene will be reinvigorated.

Hi, my name is Sam Krohlow.

I'm 23 and originally from around the Green Bay and Appleton area in Wisconsin. I went to school at the UW-Platteville for Mechanical Engineering and just recently graduated this last May.

I now have a job as a design engineer for Honda and just moved to the Columbus, OH area, more specifically, Dublin.

I've been playing on and off since about 7th edition and have been playing competitively since Lorwyn. Legacy is probably my format of choice since there was a decent legacy scene where I went to school. My main deck in legacy is Doomsday, which is about 5ish cards away from being all English foil/fbb duals.

I've played in a handfull of vintage events at Gnome Games in Green Bay and Extreme Games in Illinois in the past. I'm looking to get a lot more into vintage in the near future now that I'm living in Columbus, which seems to have more to offer in that respect. I don't have any power yet, but I plan to start to invest soon. I'm still trying to discover good stores in the area, so far the decent places to go close by that I've found are Comic town, the Soldiery, and Fog of Dusk(although its a newer store). I heard that there are Sunday legacy tourneys at comic town, so I'll probably try to hit those up whenever I can.

I have the same username on TheSource, The Storm Boards, and on Cockatrice.

If anyone in the area wants to play or is going to a bigger tourney and wants to carpool, shoot me a message.

Hello all, my name is Nick and I am currently in Oregon.  I am very interested in the power of Vintage but don't have a local playgroup interested in eternal formats, so I have just been jamming different decks on Cockatrice. I have always enjoyed card synergy and combos, but also like to metagame. Before starting Magic about 3 years ago I was known in my LGS for playing anti-meta strategies and off-the-wall combo decks in many different games (Basically the equivalent of Merfolk or Null Rod Aggro, but in Yugioh, Naruto TCG, etc), but as I have grown older I have become more of a Spike and now enjoy tuning blue control decks, although I still like to goldfish explosive combo decks for kicks.

Hey

My name is Andy, I have actually been a non-active member here at TMD for over 5 years, and while my general interest in vintage has gone up and down over the years I have always enjoyed reading various posts and articles by vintage players.

So, I guess it was finally time to introduce my self.
Some of you may know me in the Chicago area as the Tournament Organizer for Hotsaucegames.com retail store.

I currently am playing around with both Workshop and Delver decks, though I usually lean towards any and all combo decks over anything else.
