Here it comes again. The monthly Legacy Tourney at Pandemonium. Its almost turning into a Duel fo Duals series now. Enough blabbing...here's the info.
Where: Pandemonium 1858 Middlebelt Garden City, MI 48135 (734)-427-2451
When: Saturday, June 17th Signup begins at 1:00pm Tournament starts at 2:00pm
Format: Legacy, REL1 Swiss rounds with cut to top 4, or top 8 based on attendance.
Entry Fee: $10
Prize Structure:
1st = 4 x Taiga 2nd = 4 x Survival of the Fittest 3rd = $10 store credit 4th = $10 store credit 5th-8th = packs Top 4 prizes are guaranteed. For every additional 2 players above 14, $5 store credit will be added to each of the Top 4 prizes.
I'm really glad that there is a community of players beginning to form here. At the May 20th tourney, we had 16 players in spite of Regionals being the same day. This time we scheduled around PTQ kobe and State Champs and managed to get a wide open Saturday. See you there.
And now a word from the sponsor. If you need anything for your deck at the last minute, Pandemonium has a good selection of singles... all the way from commons to Power, and most everything in between. Drinks and snacks are available on site and there are plenty of restaurants very nearby.

Oh shit, I didn't even think about Grad parties - is anybody else going to get hit by them? I hope I'll be able to get there, I'm not actually sure who's party is that day... hmmm. I have a terrible memory, what time have these things been ending? Maybe I can just go to the parties late. Good luck to all, and see you in July! Ah crap, now I have to worry about Stax too We are starting to get one weird metagame.

The tournaments have been ending by 8pm. If you didn't make top 8, you're done around 6pm. Any good grad party I've ever been to dosen't start getting good until 10pm, when the older (non-partying) folks leave. So come support your format then commence the underage drinking.

Heh.
I actually have a couple grad parties that day, but I'm still gonna show up cause M:tG (well, Legacy) > People. I'll just hit the parties after I've pwned the tourney.
I hope Matt can make it though, so I don't have to be the only one keeping face for Predict.

It's 3 hours away, but if I can round up my team to pitch in for gas, I will definitely be attending future tourneys in Garden City. Can't make this specific tourney, though, due to work. I hope everyone has a great time!

Well, I guess I'll do it then.
We had a dissapointing turnout of 10 people. The meta was:
2x UGw Threshold (urza_insane and an unregged, I think (if this is you, tell me!)) 1x UGr Threshold (me) 1x UGb Threshold (cancerstix) 1x WW/u (Liek) 1x BW Confidant (unregged) 1x Angel Stompy (MasterShake) 1x LED Madness (Kilz88) 1x Goblins (P_Bee) 1x Burn (Jeremy Rutherford. unregged)
At least we had most of the core group, sans Spencer.
Top 4: UGw Threshold (urza_insane) vs WW/u Goblins vs LED Madness
Top 2: WW/u split with LED Madness
Yes, for the first time EVER (and when I say ever, I mean ever.), I missed the cut. I just played the wrong deck. But whatever.
Round 1: 1-2 vs Burn Round 2: 0-2 vs UGb Threshold Round 3: 2-1 vs Angel Stompy Round 4: 1-2 vs BW Confidant
Yeh. I finished 1-3. I should've played UBW Fish.
The next tournament is going to be at RIW Hobbies on July 8th, just to give everyone the heads up, as that is only three weeks away.
*edit* And while I'm at it...Ghana beat Czech Republic. Seppuku is definitely in order.

1x WW/u (Paul Nicola. At least, I think that's his last name, and I think that's his TMD nick as well.) It's Nicol o. People mess up my name a lot. The next tournament is going to be at RIW Hobbies on July 8th, just to give everyone the heads up, as that is only three weeks away. We'll have details on this soon. And I guess I'll write up how my matches went, even though it was only a ten person event.

Top 2: WW/u vs LED Madness
Lets just make clear that we split first and second so Paul didn't win. Also, my deck is called Suprise Penetration, Imagination, Concentration, Combination, Celebration, Demonstration, Tony Danza, Extravaganza. But you can just call it Suprise Penetration for short. With the exception of vintage players being assholes and Dave treating us like we were little kids, it was pretty fun. We aren't gonna be happy but we will most likely be at RIW. See you guys there.

I'm not playing Goblins next time. And I'm pretty Pissed that the event is going to be at R.I.W. Yeah, that's a capital P. Goblins - I have an amazingly good matchup against Thresh. Round 1 - Paul with WW. I died fast. 1-2 Round 2 - Unregged with UGw Threshold. I won. Like ususal. He uses orange sleeves. 2-1 Round 3 - Dan (cancerstix) with UGb Threshold. I won. Blood Moon pwns. He almost got the double plague. 2-1 Round 4 - Urza not-quite-right-in-the-mind with UGw Threshold. I won. Blood Moon is good. So is Goblin Goon. T4 - Kacey (Kilz88) with LED Madness. I lost game 1. Dave started being a huge dick so I conceded the match so I wouldn't get pissed at KC. I got my money back at least. T2 - Kacey and Paul. In a futile attempt to stick it to the man, they split the prize. With my $10 store credit I walked out with at Ninjas of Davy Jones' Curse Special Edition Box. Retails at $9.99. If we keep getting fewer and fewer people I'm going to be sad. (For some reason, TMD changes the word P i r a t e s to Ninjas.) TMD has a filter in place - you've found one of the many filtered phrases. -Godder

I'm pretty Pissed that the event is going to be at R.I.W. Yeah, that's a capital P. Dave started being a huge dick If we keep getting fewer and fewer people I'm going to be sad. An event at RIW will be fine. I hope the prize structure is good. Anyway, you can always talk to Brandon at Pande and arrange another tourney for later in July to go along with RIW's plan. I'm personally glad to see them get involved. It's really quite tiring to see the player pool in the area broken up all the time by 'store loyalty'. You really don't know Dave very well...ha ha ha. We will inevitably chase people away by constantly kicking their asses. Maybe its time to lay off for a while and just pick a thursday to show up for $3 fun. Maybe even a 'break the banned card', unsanctioned event. Dave treating us like we were little kids, Heh heh. Did you guys happen to notice that Dave raised his voice just loud enough to make sure the GPT players heard him. Theres a difference between winning a couple duals in a casual legacy event and being awarded byes for an upcoming Grand Prix, in a GPT organized by Professional Events Services. Dave's rant was 80% for them and 20% for us.

Awesome tournament despite the turnout and despite Blood Moon (come on now! Blood Moon?! What a stupid card ). I think dropping the price a bit might be a good idea - but I think you're right about being too good, everybody there today had a chance of winning. It scares away the casual folk. That or we just need to convert more people into Legacy lovers. Time for my match breakdown and the amazing story of how I went 2-2 and made top 4. I was playing UGW Thresh Round 1I play vs B/W Confidant and win in 2 close games. The poor deck died to its namesake both games (Dark Confidant). Tough luck. 1-0 Round 2I play vs Burn. This is a surprisingly hard match. Maybe he just had a good version against Thresh? I don't remember it usually being this close. Game 1 I won due 100% to Worship being in my opening hand. Game 2 I got quickly burnt out. Game 3 I found Worship again and in a close game found a win. There was a lot of luck involved with winning this match. 2-0 Round 3I play vs Goblins and my deck craps all over me. Game 1 I win without too much trouble. Game 2 I mull to 4!!!! Due to 0 (zero) land in all the other hands. Yuk. That is over fast. Game 3 I look at my hand and am very sad to see a lone Tundra with no cantrips. That has to go. I mull to 6 and lose to Blood Moon - I can't find my forest. Round 4I play vs WW/u and get blown out. In none of the games I played against Paul did I feel like I had control of the game, it was nasty. Game 1 I lose to Mother of Runes giving his creatures protection. Game 2 I lose to Meddling Mage on Swords while I continue to draw into 3 . This is not a good match-up for me. (especially if Ramosian Sergeant stays on the table - which it did) Top 4Going 2-2 I was very happy to see I made it into 4th place! Yay! I didn't really mind playing Paul again since I at least got $10 for my efforts. And again I lost 2-0. Well, time to switch to Train Wreck. Thanks to Dan for putting this thing on! And excellent sportsmanship in your round against KC. You're an asset to Legacy. Best of luck to all at RIW! Lets show them what our format can do.

Here's what I ran.
4 Tundra 5 Plains 4 Flooded Strand 2 Windswept Heath 4 Ancient Tomb
2 Tithe 4 Aether Vial
2 Isamaru, Hound of Konda 4 Ramosian Sergeant 4 Mother of Runes 4 Meddling Mage 4 Whipcorder 4 Silver Knight 3 True Believer
4 Umezawa's Jitte 3 Armageddon 3 Crusade
Sideboard: 1 Tithe 1 True Believer 2 Disenchant 3 Abolish 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Swords to Plowshares
Here's how my matches went.
Round 1: Goblins, splashing white.
Game 1: He mulls to 4 or 5, he plays a Warchief and a Piledriver, I trade 2 Morphs for them. I cast Armageddon, with several lands in hand, and he also plays some lands soon after. I play Sergeant, and Ancient Tombs/Fetchlands put me down to 5, but he has no presure, and I draw Jitte.
Game 2: I mull into 1 land, and use it to play a one drop turns 1-3. He has a steady flow of creatures, though, and I'm far behind. I draw a second land and quickly throw Silver Knight into play. It was probably wrong, as he quickly Swords to Plowshares it. He probably would have killed whatever 2/2 I played. Anyways, I made a 2/2 each turn, and made my blocks so that I had a creature left, in case I ripped Ancient Tomb for Jitte in hand. I do, and I go down to 3, equip and bash, but he's got the 3rd Swords to Plowshares.
Game 3: Turn one Mother of Runes, turn 2 Silver Knight prevents his Lackey from getting in, and stops a Swords to Plowshares from resolving. I end up with several creatures and I attack for a few points each turn until he's dead.
Round 2: RG Lion's Eye Diamond Madness.
Game 1: He has a mana-heavy opening with 3 Land Grants, so I have time to get some creatures down. I get two Crusades and an active Jitte, which make all of my creatures bigger than his Wurms. Firestorm could have potentially caused problems, but it only killed one of my creatures.
Game 2: I Meddling Mage Firestorm, and get a Jitte active while tapping his fat with Whipcorder. Not too much happened.
Round 3: UGW Threshold.
Game 1: We both build up, him with upgraded Gooses and Bears, me with some 2/2s and a Mother of Runes. We are basically in a racing position, I have a turn where I can use Mother of Runes to push my guy through, but I lose if he has Swords to Plowshares. I decide to go for it, and he doesn't have it.
Game 2: We both build up again, me with a Mage naming Swords to Plowshares, and then he plays a Suppresion Field against my Jitte and several creatures with activated abilities. I've Tithed twice and have 8 lands in play, and count up what I thought was a lethal attack (end step tap a guy, my turn tap a guy, use Mother on my Mage, pump with 2 Jitte counters.) I was one mana short, though, leaving him at one life. It was a rather silly mistake, but at 15 life he couldn't kill me.
Round 4: Burn.
Game 1: I mull into turn 1 Vial, turn 2 Jitte, and I make a Sergeant at end step. I make the mistake of going to 2 on Vial (with only a 1-drop in hand.) He Bolts my Jitte weilder and bashes me with a Genju of the Spires. My next turn I play the other one-drop and he kills me.
Game 2: He burns me rather quickly, and I have a Silver Knight. I draw into a Jitte, and connect with it while I'm at 3 life. I Meddling Mage Fireblast, and he throws some burn at me. Jitte gains me life, and he doesn't topdeck another 3-point spell to kill me.
Game 3: I Meddling Mage Fireblast and play a Chalice of the Void for one with an Ancient Tomb, dropping me to 9. He concedes and drops his hand on the board, including a Shattering Spree. A spectating Brian Demars explains to him how he could have killed the Chalice and possibly won, and after my opponent leaves someone asks me why I didn't just concede. For some reason the idea never came into my head, looking back I definetly should have..
Top 4: UGW Threshold.
Game 1: Aether Vial resolves, I make a Sergeant, and make a ton of 2/2s. I attack with everybody every turn, into his Gooses and 4-card graveyard. Mental Note might have ruined my day, but he doesn't have it, and my creatures do enough damage in a couple turns.
Game 2: He Enlightened Tutors for Suppresion Field and plays it against my two Sergeants. I play a Silver Knight, followed by Crusade, and a couple attack steps make it lethal.
Finals: RG Lion's Eye Diamond Madness.
We prize split.
That's it. I look forward to future Legacy tournaments (especially ones held at RIW Hobbies.)

A spectating Brian Demars explains to him how he could have killed the Chalice and possibly won That's really too bad because he also made a play mistake against me that may have cost him the match. He seemed to sort of storm off at the end - I don't think he was very happy with the tourny. I hope he comes back! If anybody sees him (Jeremy Rutherford) make sure you tell him to keep showing up . He's a good player, but simply things have cost him. That goes for the rest of you as well! You all need to keep coming. I love having this incredibly skilled environment (even though it makes it very difficult to win ). But seriously, no more Bloodmoon.
