Congrats to Rich for taking down another tourney with Dragon. The ZIs in the board look like a great idea, but are the Rootwallas actually any good though? Its obvious what they're there for, but they seem kinda random. Also, the Dragon list is only 57 cards.

Is this right or has Dragon adopted the Becker manabase of infinite fetch and a handful of actual land?

That other staxless stax deck is so far from staxless stax, I don't thing it should be compared.

Juggernaut IMHO would make Shop Aggro a better clasification.

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

The tournament was fun and well-run. Thanks to the TO.

I had four Underground Seas.

The ZI/Rootwalla sideboard didn't work out too well in practice. The deck is set up to do one thing well, and even against hate, the aggro plan is much weaker than just pushing through hate to win. Even against a deck brimming with hate, they proved to be too slow and not potent enough. However, Dragon really impressed me with its ability to win despite hate cards.

Congrats Rich on yet another victory! I like your attempt at a "transformational" SB, even if it didn't turn out that well for this event. Keeping opponents guessing can take a lot of pressure off post SB, even if they are aware of your SB possibilities. And as you've observed, WGD is much more resilient to hate than most people think. Perhaps what they need to understand is that hate cards in the library don't translate into sufficient hate cards in hand, and you still have to engage in and win attrition/card advantage wars or tempo wars for the hate to be meaningful. When I have lost matches in the past with various WGD builds, the reason for the losses had typically more to do with my opponent succeeding with his game plan ahead of mine instead of hating me out.

Thanks to Derek & Battleground for hosting and running a smooth tournament in a clean, friendly environment. Thanks to Mox Monkey for helping get the word out and for typing up the Top 8 Deck Lists. I had a great time with some excellent matches and a ton of fun both during and in between rounds.

That event rocked pretty hard, except for the fact that one of the Gifts players was able to sneak away without getting owned by yours truly.  I blame it on those silly Aurioks.

Thanks to all the players, as well as Derek and Moxy for helping to make it a success. Let's make the next one just as awesome.
