hey people. i'm just recently getting into high level magic, not that casual stuff i use to play. i play on MWS a lot and I made this deck, which I plan to buy. I call it TT80 Below becuase it's Tendrils, but wont cost more than $80 simply because I cant afford it. any improvements besides the obvious moxne and lotus are appreciated ^_^

Creatures:
4 Ornithopter
4 Phyrexian Walker
2 Shield Sphere

Mana:
2 Lake of the Dead
16 Swamps
4 underground Rivers
1 Lotus Petal
4 Dark Ritual
4 Culling the Weak
4 Cabal Ritual

Other Spells:
1 Demonic Tutor
2 Diabolic Intent
4 Infernal Contract
1 Necropotence
1 Spellbook
1 Feldon's Cane

Set up:
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Tinker

Finishers:
1 Darksteel Colossus
4 Tendrils of Agony

originally, i didnt want the blue in there. but over time, i realized that once ppl caught on, they could Meddling Mage my Tendrils and I couldnt win. I figure i could play destruction or find another way to win, so i decided to go with Tinker/DSC. sometimes, i would fake ppl out with the tinker early in the game. maybe use feldons cane to bring back the tinker, so they would prepare for that, instead of Tendrils.

spellbook is there because on bad hands, i wouldnt want to get rid of good spells and spell book saved me several times. plus its just another 0 cc spell to add to storm ^_^

what do u guys think? remember, i'm new to this level of play. so plz explain why you suggest what you do. thanx ^_^

Both Spellbook and Feldon's Cane are quite lacking.  I also think you could drop the Tendrils count by 1-2.  Some cards you could look into would be Yawgmoth's Bargain, Demonic Consultation, Vampiric and/or Mystical Tutor, Windfall, Meditate (not as easily cast of a ritual, but lifeloss hurts with Necro/Bargain--effectively drawing you less cards.  It's a toss-up).

Do you pretty much always plan to kill turn 1-2?  Has no disruption whatsoever been a problem?  Duress is solid, as would a few Chain of Vapors, which double as storm and mana generators--especially with so many 0cc stuff.

In addition to what was said,

-4 River
-9 Swamp
+4 sea
+8 fetchland
+1 Mox diamond
-spellbook
+Yawgmoth's Bargain

Fetchlands rule at getting you to threshold.

thnx guys. i'll look deeper into those cards later. no time right jnow, i'm about to leave. by fetchlands, do you mean those lands where you sac, pay 1 life, and put either one land or the other in your deck?

Yes, duress has ended my strat a few times. i was thinking about adding it in to get rid of FoW or MD. Demonic consultation was in the deck, but since the cards end up RFG instead of in the grave, many good cards end up gone.

If i were to add chain of vapors, i would probably add more blue and change my strat to IT.

more comments welcome

Yes, he does.

As long as you are playing mono-black, you should also look at Unmask as some quality hand-disruption.

I'm going to assume for the moment that you are playing somewhere in the US, since you said $80, and not some other currency.  If so, where are you playing such that you aren't allowed proxies?  Almost every Vintage tournament, large or small, allows at least 10 proxies.  That's enough to let you build a fairly good portion of combo decks for pretty cheap.  And if you play on MWS and are serious about playing seriously, you should play fully powered decks there so that you can learn their dynamics, and then apply those lessons to making budget decks.

^^^ Ok. I know I am allowed proxies. In fact, I plan on going to the Waterbury p9 tourny in late July. Personally, I like the idea of having the cards I'm playing and if I cant, I'll find a replacement. However, the way things are going, it looks like I wont be having any choice ^_^

You should check on that topic : I've built a similar deck that performs really well for a quite small budget.
Unpowered version is quite easy to build with that structure.

tell me what you think about it

If I'm proxying, it seems to be the same as I have, just with the dual lands and moxen. Right now i'm in between Tendrils and Gifts. I've been playing that for a few days and it's been working lovely.

I fixed your spelling. I won't do it again. - Bram
