T1 Report: Blue Bell - PA - MCCC

Pretty much the same deck as last time for me.  Some mini beats + TOA combo.  I hated the Remands all day, they are coming out.  The deck performed much better last time when I faced decks that were heavy GY users, like CS and Dragon.  Wretch is very much a metagame call.

3 Polluted Delta
3 Flooded Strand
1 Underground Sea
2 Island
5 Swamp
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress
4 Withered Wretch
4 Dark Confidant
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Tendrils of Agony
4 Brainstorm
1 Timetwister
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Tinker
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Echoing Truth
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Impulse
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Pearl
1 Lotus Petal
2 Remand
1 Sol Ring
1 Darksteel Colossus
2 Pithing Needle

Sideboard:
SB: 2 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 2 Darkblast
SB: 4 Engineered Plague
SB: 4 Negator
SB: 1 Rebuild
SB: 1 Stifle
SB: 1 Old Man of the Sea
SB: 1 Gilded Drake

Round 1 (1-1) vs. Jeff with B/W with Leylines and Negators

Game 1 My deck did its thing with a Tendrils victory.
Game 2 Jeff's deck put on the beats and stopped by Will with a 1st turn Leyline that I couldn't bounce in time.
Game 3 We ran out of time before either of us could go lethal.

Round 2 (1-1) vs. Obiwein with SS

Game 1 SS did its thing and disrupted my game too much for me to recover.
Game 2 I put on some Old Man beats and I believe finished with a lethal Tendrils.  We may have had dualing DSCs out, as well.
Game 3 We had each other on the ropes for a while, then Obiwein had out a Flipped Erayo and a non-flipped one, then flipped the other.  Before we both realized that 2 flipped Eayo was not possible time had expired.

Round 3 (2-0) vs. Nomad with Affinity

Game 1 Turn 2 Tendrils off a ridiculous draw + a well timed H recall that bounced his artifacts and destroyed his Glimmervoid.
Game 2 Nomad had a ridiculous draw but I had an even more ridiculous hand that ended with another lethal Tendrils.

Round 4 (2-1) vs. Wayne with Gifts

Game 1 I believe I went lethal pretty early with a Tendrils.
Game 2 Gifts did its thing and sculpted a ridiculous hand for I believe a DSC win.
Game 3 We ran out of time. Wayne gave me the win.

Round 5 (2-0) vs Fred with Gifts

Fred wanted to play 2HG so he gave me the win.

Top 8 (0-2) vs Kevin with Gifts

Game 1: Blind Needle on my Wretch + Owned by a DSC, I believe.
Game 2: Owned by a DSC + Needle on my Wretch.

Another great tourney by Mike and the folks at the MCCC scene.  The competition was great and the metagame is really starting to take shape.  Storm was well represented across the tables.  I saw a number of Gifts, IT and D-long.  I'd say Fish variations (SS, U/W, etc.) were in heavy numbers, as well.  Oath was almost non-existent as was Goblins, Stax, and Dragon.  So, I guess expect to see a large number of Drain and Storm decks at MCCC this summer.

I was a bit gutted both games, I was sure the second game was mine...  Oh well.  Probably worth the pratice for getting a Jet down in Charlotte...

Another great tourney by Mike and the folks at the MCCC scene.

The tourney was fine, but the Lotus was definitely lacking. It looked like it was dropped in a fire and yanked out just in time. This follows up the creased Recall from the last tournament. I have no gripes with these tournaments, but the power being given out is definitely sub-par. I have no problems with played power, but creased or worse is pushing it.

I'm just happy theres actrally a Type One tournament in my area, thats only a 1.5 hours away. Theres nothing in my area, very few vintage players  Sad. I top 8 with boomerman but lost to the first guy I played, he was playing blue white black fish. I always loose to fish I hate it. I plan to attend, to everyone, just to help support vintage in the Philly area. I would be very disappointed if he stop running vintage tournaments. I also love the format and enjoy playing it. P.S it keep the little kids away usually   Razz
