I recently played a food chain goblins deck and it was very competitive. the only problem I saw was 1 f the games he didn't get green mana until turn 4 which was probably a set back for him, so I decided to write a mono green food chain deck.

FOODCHAIN  ELVES

mana source(19):
2 elvish spirit guide
1 mox emerald
1 black lotus
15 forests

elves(23):
4 wellwisher
4 seeker of skybreak
4 Llanowar elves
3 elvish vanguard
4 wirewood herald
2 voice of the woods
2 ambush commander

tutors/ draw(10):
3 sylvan tutor
4 worldly tutor
3 bequethal

other(8):
4 food chain
4 naturalize

sideboard(15):
4 seedtime
4 thelon's cure
4 lifeforce
3 wirewood hivemaster

Okay this is an elf deck without any of the "all elves gain..." or " add something for every elf in play". instead I have cards that have effects that work with food chain. with well wisher, seeker, or any type of elf when voice of the woods is in play right before you get rid of it and you get its added effect plus the mana that will make the next card. I added cards in the sideboard that are effective against U or B.this deck has 7 tutors and 3 draw so it should not be hard to get your elves.

i do not expect this deck to be perfect, i just wrote it of the blue. i would would just like to know your opinions on the deck

Concordant Crossroads would be really great.  And Skullclamp is infinitely better than Bequeathal.  I think not including Priest of Titania, 1-2 Timberwatch and Caller and not including Qurion Ranger/Wirewood Symbiote are huge mistakes.

Also, Food Chain RFG's creatures--you'll need to Skullclamp for reliable tutoring with Herald.  Voice of the Woods and Ambush COmmander are wasted slots.  I think the deck should be about making a ton of elves with COncordant Crossraods, untap effects and Skullclamp.  Food Chain only does what elves already do best:  make mana.

I have played elf clamp for quite a while and found that the best elves are

4 Llanowar (best turn 1 elf)
4 Wirewood Symbiote (so key)
4 Priest of Titania (super mana)
4 Wirewood Herald (fetch elf)
4 Quiron Ranger (untapper for priest and Timberwatch)
4 Wirewood Hivemaster
4 Skullclamp (clamp insect tokens and heralds)
4 Land Grant
4 Birchlore Rangers (just keeps putting out more elves when you're tapped out)
2-3 Concordant Crossroads

Other possibilities for Utility:

Timberwatch Elf for PUMP (can make enormous elves)
Wirewood Lodge (singleton)
Aluren + Glimpse of Nature (pretty sick combo)
Food Chain
Caller of the Claw for 2/2 bears and vs. mass removal or after you clamp a tonne of elves they can all come back as bears
Elvish Scrapper vs. Artifacts
Elvish Lyrist vs. Enchantments
Steely Resolve vs. Sharpshooter (this does shut down clamp unfortunately)
Overrun
Rancor
Coat of Arms

I have found the elves at the top to be the most important and key to the combos.

You can combo with elves turn 2-4 very easiliy

Wellwisher is overrated, you don't need the lifegain
Seeker of Skybreak is not important
Elvish Vanguard takes up a lot of room (you can pump an unblocked elf with Timberwatch and they get pretty big)
Voice of the Wood (too costly, though mana is not a problem, you don't want them in your opening hand)
Ambush Commander (not needed)
Tutors are not needed because using Clamp or Aluren/Glimpse of Nature drawing is so easy

I have seen many variations of elves and the elves I have listed have given me success at local tournaments and I have even seen a kid win a Workshop tourny with them.  Hopefully the suggestions help.  Best of luck with your build.

Glimpse of Nature is also insane in this deck.

The only reason that Food Chain is used in the Goblin deck is to take advantage of Goblin Recruiter and Goblin Ringleader to get all the goblins in your deck into play turn 3.  If you're going to use Food Chain in the Elf deck, you should use Sylvan Messenger at least, the Green equivalent of Ringleader, and cut down on your non-elf cards so that he draws you more cards.

Incidentally, my brother has an Elf deck which might interest you.  It goes something like this:

4 Llanowar Elf
4 Fyndhorn Elf
4 Priest of Titania
4 Quirion Ranger
1 Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
4 Sylvan Messenger
4 Wirewood Hivemaster
4 Viridian Zealot
2 Deranged Hermit
3 Wellwisher

2 Enshrined Memories
4 Overrun
4 Alpha Status

16 Forest

This deck doesn't use Food Chain, but it's always fun to have 30 mana on turn 3, and the deck wins pretty consistently on turn 4 or 5 with Zealot backup to boot.  Hooray for Alpha Status on the trampling Sylvan Messenger!

These decks could really use some fetchlands.

Since noone mentioned it yet: It's pretty easy to go infinite with Staff of Domination and a Priest of Titania on the table, a lot of (some, at least  Rolling Eyes) people play this combo in Legacy... works better than clamping and producing mana for an eternity only to drop some more elves.

If you want to do staff of domination kill use metalworker and MWS for an artifact deck. But this is about elves.

Card i am really missing when using so many critters, skull clamp and green is definately a gaea's cradle. This deck could use 1 or 2 definately.

Cradle can be a bad draw if it is your only land in the opening hand.  The key with elves is to run as many as possible with as little land, that's why land grants are key to the deck and from experience the Cradle is not needed because the amount of mana by turn 3 or 4 is ridiculous.

Also, Sword of Paruns is fun too.
If you don't go infinite, it protects from Pyroclasm, Engineered Plague, and makes some serious damage.
You could always play Natural Order too, if you ever get bored
(Or need if you need a cool sideboard plan against other aggro decks).

I think there are better things than Food Chain in Elves.
Elves can produce so much mana, I don't why you would need Food Chain.
It also forces you to build around a weak combo card.

If you intent on using it, why not play some fatter creatures?
Patron of the Orochi? Verdant Force? Protean Hulk? Karona, False God? Kiki Jiki?
Primordial Sage?

Also, a lot of the decklists in the suggestions above are filled with better elves you could use//test.

Good Luck!

www.plzusefetchlands.com

Thinning out your deck so you don't draw lands = tek.

I would also run this kind of mana base.

5 Fetches
1 mox
1 black lotus
1 lotus petal
4 ESG
7 Forests

19 non-creature mana sources.
