It's a SAD day... The "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin was killed today while filming a documetary at the great barrier reef. He apparently was stabbed in the heart by a stingray. It's a Sad day... :'( http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060904/ap_on_en_tv/obit_irwin (source)

At least 'stabbed in the heart' makes for a slightly more heroic death than, say, dying of pneumonia or getting hit by a produce truck. Fat lot of good that does his family, though. I'll kinda miss the poor guy, I guess.

The death he wanted and has asked for on several occasions, but 40 years early.
Indeed a sad sad day.

It's a sad day. I'm a keen animal lover, and he did so much to help the animal world. The death of a hero...

I do lots of Fishing here off beaches as I am an avid fisherman. Very often I hook into a Manta Ray or Cownose Ray 50 lbs. plus. They are huge and the spike is razor sharp and will pierce through anything. It flares in an upwards motion when provoked, and that's probably what happened if he hovered over it while diving, something triggered it's defense and accidently did it.

I feel bad, but with all due respect, it was only a matter of time. That guy put himself in life threatening situations on a regular basis. You can only mess with a bull so long before you get the horns. =(

Steve will remain among us magic players forever, because Steve is actually a magic card. SteveSteve rode a Manta. The Manta paid . And Steve flied.

Man, I hate it when cool people die. Especially when they are fairly young.

I can't believe he died... I watched Croc Hunter as a kid all the time and them BLAMO! He's gone! I thought it was a hoax at first, but sadly I was mistaken. I wish I could have met the man; he had such enthusiasm for life and animals... it is sad to see him go. I shed some tears, actually.
I'll miss you Steve.

People are now randomly killing Stingrays in Australia and cutting off their tail. 10 found so far.
Sometimes I get embarrased to also be a human being. They told me at school that humans were the most intelligent creatures on this earth, but frequently I get evidence provided that indicates otherwise.

We have rather cyclic discussion, and I fully believe that someone so inclined could create a rather accurate computer program which could do a fine job impersonating any of us.

Mice>Dolphins>Humans. Goodbye, and thanks for the fish! Which is probably the same the Stingray said to Steve when he left. Too bad he's gone. I think he was one of the most enthousiastic people I have seen, without faking it.
