A nice article to link to when people are unfamiliar with type 1. I remember when I first started playing, and how hard it was to figure out all the different archetypes. And this is before SCG started a data base, so if you didn't know what deck someone was referring to you had to run a search though the different forums.

don't forget that SCG has a much larger NON-vintage following than Vintage following, so I'm sure there are a ton of premium members there who don't have much exposure to Vintage.

I doubt they'll read the article though. Those people usually have 0 interest in T1. And the few that are interested come to SGC and TMD forums to check the format out.

I think it would be better to have a intro to a format be a free article rather then a pay article. Some peeps may just read it our of strict boredom or curiosity. The perhaps we may have accidental vintage players =]

No complaining about SG premium in article feedback threads. It's unnecessary clutter--we have separate threads for whining about it elsewhere, and authors don't have control over which of their articles become premium anyway.

It was a nice article for newcomers to the format, but I have a few minor nitpicks. First, and I realize you acknowledge that the lists vary a lot, that CS list you posted is pretty dated. The format's being skewed by combo and quick hybrids (MDG), and as such new CS lists are improving their early game while still maintaining a pretty nasty late game. Also, it might have been appropriate to mention one of the control-aggro archetypes that run dudes and drains such as Bomberman and some builds of EBA; both seem to be competetive, and I don't think you can just clump them in with fish... certainly not Bomberman, anyway.

EDIT: Yeah, if you can't afford premium then you certainly can't afford to play magic anyway, so you shouldn't be worrying too much about not reading it.

EDIT2: Oh, I forgot Izzet Control... that's another solid drain deck with dudes, albeit not as many dudes.

This is a good article.  It does not necessarily tell us a lot, but it is the kind of article that newbies find helpful, and it is important to update this every 6 months to a year as the information goes out of date.  It also helps establish a framework to build off; much like Magic Academy.  After this is out you can assume basic format knowledge from your readers.
