Hi, I just won an Ebay auction for an Unlimited Ancestral seen here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260030793916

Now, this seller looks totally legit as does that card, and I have NO REASON to believe that there is anything sketchy about this auction.  However because I am wicked paranoid and have never purchased anything this expensive on Ebay before I wanted to ask some of you more experienced ebayers to glance at this auction and make sure it seems ok.  (I have read too many horror stories about people getting scamed on powercards and wanted some second opinions) If a couple peole would confirm that this auction/seller/card is the real deal, I would feel much less paranoid about sending 500 dollars out into cyberspace.

Thanks

Well, it's a high-feedback seller in the United States, so I wouldn't worry *too* much.  My biggest concern would be whether the thing is one of those really good fakes and the seller actually doesn't know it.

Thanks Roxas.  Looking at the scans it looks like a real card, but with some of the discusion going on recently, who knows.  Hopefully if the seller is professional enough they would take a return if the card was found to be fake.

yeah i realized that.  I didnt actually expect to win the auction.  I know that sounds stupid, but I thought it would go higher.  I was, you know, just bidding for the thrill of it.  That being said, I was in the market for an Ancestral.

if you want to be paranoid, make sure you use a credit card so you have better dispute options later.

But the scan is big and looks like a "real card" (ie actual wear) with a lot of positive feedback as a seller...not much else you can do except maybe get a business or home phone number...

You just paid significantly over market already, so I can't imagine that it would have gone higher.  I would assume it's real.

Those stat generators dont mean a whole lot to me, and there accuracy has been continualy contested.  I watch these auctions periodically and dont see ancestrals in good condition from credible looking sellers going for much lower than what i paid.

Show me where, on-line, you can get an ancestral for substantially less than what I paid, and then I will start to feel sorry for myself.

I'm not buddies with any card dealers so have way to circomvent the "average joe" purchasing process for these kinds of expensive cards.

What are other people around here paying for unlimited ancestrals these days?

SCG is a fair guide, particularly in this instance. After doing a search of completed items at Ebay, $350 - $450 seems to be standard, but I could see paying a premium in this case because this seller has the sales and feedback to reassure buyers that he's almost certainly legit.

Datatog price means nothing for ancestral. It is lower due to fakes.

That being said that ancestral is definately not an EX+. Price is probably about $30 too high but not that bad. Card looks real to me and I'm pretty good at spotting fakes.

The seller and card are legit, but you definitely overpaid for it. For just a bit more, , you can even find a Beta one in not too bad condition.

The Europeans tend to raise the prices on some items, but in general for $470+, it should be a NM Unlimited Ancestral at worst. Heck, even SCG has slightly played ones at $450!

Ok, in case anyone is interested:
The Unlimited Ancestral from the auction (posted in my first post) arrived, and the card checks out ok. Positive feedback left.  Then, several days later at the Time Spiral prerelease, there was a booth set up selling cards and they had this really nice Beta Ancestral which they were asking 500 for... I started getting really annoyed at myself for not waiting until after the prerelease to buy an ancestal in case this exact situation happend.  I didn't buy the Ancestral at the prerelease, but as the days passed it started eating at me, so I called the store who had the booth at the prerelease and told them I wanted to buy the card.  So it arrived today.  Here are some crappy pictures I just took with my macbook:

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n294/fotografiamia/Photo27.jpg

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n294/fotografiamia/Photo26.jpg

Well, now I have two ancestrals.  I will eventualy sell the unlimited one on ebay most likely unless I have a chance to trade it for other power (still need a sapphire, emerald, and twister.)

I guess the point of all this is that you guys were right!  For $500 you can get a Beta Ancestral.  But looking at what Betas are going for on ebay and online stores, and given the condition of mine, I feel like I got a really good deal.

Saga over.

I bought my AR from ebay like half a year ago, and I paid 388 dollars.

If I was in america, I would ONLY buy from other americans who ONLY sell to the US.

A P9 card that will ship worldwide, will always be a lot more expensive ( 50-150) than a P9 that is US only.

Definitely, European buyers make the prices go insanely high. If you deal with European buyers on a place like MOTL, their prices are often as high as big dealers on most things like Beta duals and power!

Not to mention Australasian and Asian buyers. I can't understand why someone with Paypal etc. would go to all the effort of listing cards, and then not make the expensive ones worldwide shipping when it can easily mean an extra $100. That said, we've approached US-only sellers, and they're usually willing to allow us to bid, which has saved us quite a bit of cash over the years.

I love US only sellers. I would never sell to US only, but when buying, it's the best way to get a good price.

What percentage of existing power (alpha/beta, unlimited, arabian nights, antiq.) would you say has migrated out of the US?  Of all the power printed, would you say around 75% is still on US soil, while 25% has made it over seas?  Less or more?  I'm just curious as to what your guys' thougth are.

Does the fact that most european tournaments are non-proxied mean that european type one players are more likely to own or purchase power?

Most of it is still in America, that's why Europeans pay such a high price for it - they can't find it in their country with as much abundance.

The proxy thing is big: If people don't need the card and can proxy it, there is less of a chance that they will buy power.

Because cards disappear much easier overseas than in the US.

It helps that we've been getting a wicked good exchange rate from the US for a while now. I find it's often cheaper to buy from US sellers and pay transatlantic shipping than buy locally.

It's more that tracking methods and insurance for overseas shipments cost like hell, so a lot of buyers don't like to buy them.  When/if their cards go missing, they can file claims with Paypal saying that they never received their cards.  When you inform Paypal that the buyer was given the opportunity to purchase, but declined, insurance and tracking, they will still ask you to produce the tracking number.  Then you will tell them that the buyer did not wish to pay the extra sum for those services.  Then they will ask for proof that you sent the cards, which is code for a tracking number.  Then you will explain the situation again, and they will say, "Well, if you can't prove you sent the cards...," and they will award the buyer's claim.  Thus, you will be out all the money that you received for the card.

I know I'm not willing to pay $8-10 out of my pocket to pay for registered mail so that I can have proof if the cards manage to get lost.  If I sell to someone in America, I can get one for about $0.50.  Shipping to Canada is also similarly easy (although a little more expensive).  Worse yet, strange things can happen: a friend of mine sold a Ruby to a person in Australia, and they guy filed a claim with Paypal after he didn't receive the item.  They found out after some time that the package had been detained in Customs the whole time...

Plus, this process can be painful, as not all international buyers communicate in English at the native level, or at a high enough level to make things easy.  I have regular transactions with some Japanese people, and I always wonder how good my Japanese actually is at times.  Based on my summer experiences and feedback from classes, I'm pretty sure that I'm always understandable, but never perfect.  So far we haven't had any communication issues, and every transaction has been successful, and I've never been asked to "say something again."  However, if we had to discuss something technically complicated, I would likely have to get a little help from a Sensei.  I actually always thank my sellers for putting up with my subpar Japanese and going through the trouble of  completing a transaction with me.  I also make sure to include some extra money to compensate for fluctuating exchange rates and just general hassle.

I've sold 10+ pieces of power to Europe, since I frequently upgraded from Unlimited, to Beta, to nicer Beta/alpha, etc - and never had a problem. Almost all of them I used registered mail - $9-10 is not too much to spend when you are dealing with $300+ cards. That $10 shipping is nothing compared to how much you'd lose if you only sold to the U.S.

I did use FedEx once because someone wanted overnight, and that was fast and secure as well.

For cards under $100, I use normal airmail. I've never had a problem so far, with literally over one hundred transactions for stuff ranging from $5 cards to $1500 cards. (Registered for those over $100)

Power is just cheaper in the US, and just as easy to buy. Shops over here ask the same in euros as your dollars, so you save a lot with an exchange rate of about 1.25. Shops over here actually buy from the same source we do: ebay. So it's only natural that they have to sell it a little higher.

I'm not sure which continent has the most power. I always believed that Europe had most, but I can only use numbers from tournaments to back that up. You never know how much people have in their collections....

They can happen anyway. As mentioned, registered mail costs less than the general gain to be had by shipping to Europe (or where-ever.
