Izzet Guildmage
2U: Copy target instant spell you control with converted mana cost 2 or less. You may choose new targets for the copy.
2R: Copy target sorcery spell you control with converted mana cost 2 or less. You may choose new targets for the copy.

Wee Dragonauts
Whenever you play an instant or sorcery spell, Wee Dragonauts gets +2/+0 until end of turn.

Do spell copies (i.e. from Izzet Guildmage) count as spells played for the purposes of Storm or a card like Wee Dragonaughs?

Thanks,

Phil

No and no. Playing a spell means the specific act of playing it from your hand. Copying =/= playing. Both Storm and Wee Dragonauts only see spells which you actually play.

Note that some cards do allow you to play copies and trigger Storm, such as Isochron Scepter, Panoptic Mirror, and Eye of the Storm.  Izzet Guildmage is just not one such card.

Errr, not true. Especially when we're talking about Vintage. Cards like Yawgmoth's Will, Recoup, Mind's Desire, etc. all allow you to play cards that aren't in your hand.

Yeah, ok, lack of precision. It's the specific act of playing something from your hand, or doing anything which specifically says you are playing it.

Playing a spell is the specific act of the going through the steps outlined in the comp rules 409.1
