First, the link:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20061127/ap_on_re_us/anti_peace_sign_1

A great response from the forums Smile:

Confirming that Colorado is still more a red state than a blue one, homeowners there at least have the moral clarity and principle to ostracize members of their respective communities who have no loyalty to the Iraq mission, or respect for families who have kids serving in Iraq! Furthermore, Jensen is clearly the villain in this case because she doesn't even have the guts and straightforwardness to protest the war in licit terms; instead, she dastardly plants an anti-war/pro-Satan message in her Christmas decorations! Jensen--if the allegations are true, and there's no reason to disbelieve since several residents have united on this issue--clearly is the black sheep and shame of her neighborhood for desecrating the Christmas holiday as a basis for her anti-Iraq war protest, mixed with a bit of Satan worship. In fact, it shouldn't be surprising that Satan figures into an anti-war protester's display, since Satan (embodiment of evil) is pretty much what epitomizes all leftarded Americans who are against the US winning in Iraq. More power to the association president, Kearns, for firing the renegade committee members who didn't agree with many other residents that Jensen's display violated the rules; hopefully, this incident will deter other rogue Americans from using the Christmas season to put up pro-Satan, anti-war signs!

Okay, I'm not going to close this now, but if people try to turn it into a political discussion instead of a humor thread, there will be warnings and I will have to close this.

Wow, talk about people totally missing the point. Aren't their children fighting for this woman's freedom to decorate her house with wreaths?

Geez, this is Vonnegut-level tragicomic.

DENVER - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

That's the headline.

I can understand why someone would protest a peace sign, by why ban Satan along with it? Smile

Wow.  I yell at my girlfriend for reading into things too deeply and not just taking things as it is, but this takes the cake.

Yes, because God forbid Christmas would eventually come to be viewed as a symbol of peace and a time for putting aside our ideological differences...

Kearns fired all five committee members.

o.O

Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge! Well, I'm sure the former committee members and their families can find a makeshift stable somewhere to spend the holidays.

I'm SO gonna write a short story based on this event. Politics aside, this is beyond ridiculous. Also:

"Now that it has come to this I feel I can't get bullied," she said. "What if they don't like my Santa Claus."

This is apparently a very real fear.

good to hear sanity (or Satan maybe) prevailed.

also, based on this part of the article
Quote
Kearns [the board president] ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members.

It sounds like it was just the former board president who went off the wall when cooler heads (which probably represented the calmer majority) tried to prevail.

Peace symbol?  I always thought it was a symbol for the Weed Smokers Association of America.  At least, that's what it meant in the 60s....or maybe it was the LSD Users Association.  I forget.  I was trippin' then.

I love how they call it a "PRO peace symbol" in that last article. Makes you wonder what an "ANTI peace symbol" would look like.

/me resists temptation to post a pic of a certain US president.
