So I wake up Saturday morning completely exhausted having been to a couple parties the previous two nights.  I manage to drive out of my way to pick up Hi-Val at his place in oxford but realize when I get there that he was already in Columbus for the holiday.  I load myself up on Dr Pepper and coffee and make the drive up to Columbus for the tournament.

I want to apologize ahead of time for not remembering any of my opponents names.

Round 1 vs casual player with homebrew deck.

The round was a bye, he wasn't playing anything competitive but he was a very nice guy and I hope he comes back for the next tournament.

1-0

Round 2 vs RGSA

hey look another bye round, I really love playing against aggro, I roll him game one and two without seeing much of the deck.

2-0

Round 3 vs Spencer's completely weird friend with Life.dec

I don't want to piss off Spencer here but I have to preface this by saying that this guy was very bizarre, he actually creeped me out so much that it affected my play.

Game one he plays a bunch of vials and only one half of the guys he needs for the combo, I mess up an intuition because I'm creeped out and win a turn slower than I should have but still win.

Game two is crazy he starts with turn one vial and tormods crypt, turn two he plays meddling mage on tendrils then turn like four he has active combo with a sac outlet so he can gain infinite life at instant speed.  On the end of his turn I dark rit into sudden death on half of his combo so he can't go off. I actually targeted the one that gets a bigger butt when targeted but neither of us noticed until after the game, I'll chock this one up to the guys weirdness aura messing with my head.  On his next turn I cast wipe away on his endstep targetting his tormods crypt so he can't crypt me, then on my turn I chain of vapor the mage and go off.  So to recount that I had both split second cards exactly when I needed them and a chain of vapor in order to win.  I was pretty lucky that game.

3-0

Round 4 vs sligh(this is not the same guy who made top 8)

Game one he opens fast and I open slow, his ball lightning on turn two puts me into a win now position and I brainstorm into land, leyline, leyline ugh I lose this game but its the only one I lose the whole tournament so I can't complain.

Game two and three I win on turn two like a champ.

4-0

Round 5 vs Spencer with BW Pikula

we ID

4-0-1

Round 6 vs Nathan Dutton with goblins

This guy is a good friend of mine who Ive been playing magic with since the game came out so I was glad we were both in a position to ID for this round.  I also want to congratulate him on the top 8 he put in a lot of time testing goblins for this.

4-0-2

The top eight is:

4 goblin decks, 2 BW pikula decks, one burn deck and me. These are all really good matchups for me so I'm psyched.

Round one vs Goblins

I don't remember this guys name but he was a really nice guy and very talkative and funny.

Game one I look at my opening seven, its a turn one kill but I have no land and no petal, I figure I should draw into a land or petal in the first three turns and be fine against goblins but I spend some time deciding if I really want to risk it.  he goes mountain fanatic I take my turn and draw a land, how lucky I win first turn.  he jokes about me taking so long to decide to keep a first turn kill I don't tell him about the topdeck until the end of the match.

Game two he gets down turn two pillar but I still win on turn four by playing something like petal, petal, dark rit, cabal rit with thresh, tendrils for 10, igg, dark rit cabal rit tendrils.  I've said this before but pillar without additional disruption is pretty lame against iggy.

As a side note I found it interesting that all four goblins decks in the top 8 lost in the first round of the top 8.

Round two vs Mark Trogdon with burninator

game one I win turn two after he suspends a rift bolt.

game two I win turn three with him slightly short of bolt/fireblasting me to death

Finals vs Spencer with BW Pikula

Myself and my buddy Nathan had been openly dogging on BW pikula earlier in the day so I kind of ate my words when two of them made top 8.  I think Jotun Grunt is an amazing addition to the deck.

Game one I execute my usual strategy against BW and drop a bunch of fetches without cracking them and artifact mana sources, he pulls into very little relevant disruption but puts me on a clock with grunt, but according to plan I topdeck infernal the turn before I lose.

Game two is similar to game one minus him actually putting pressure on me.

So I go home with $200 dollars in my pocket after a day of mostly goldfishing.  Spencer laments living up to Steve's prediction of him coming in second but I'm sure that 120 bucks helps sooth that pain pretty well.

I was very pleased with our first meandeck legacy tournament, the turnout was higher than expected and we plan on having a lot more of these in the future.

Doesn't piss me off at all.  That's Mastershake from TMD and he does that on purpose just to affect your play.  Enjoy!

Good job with the report and the high finnish! And I just goldfished the Iggy deck 4 times, the first 2 draws I won on turn 2, the third was a bit harder, but the last one I got what I would call a turn 1 kill, first turn Leyline, then ritual ritual ill gotten gains, opponent got no hand and I am holding mystical, brainstorm and I pick up the fetch land. Heh.

@ Mike - First of all, congrats on the finish. This just certifies that you're a great player and IGG is a great deck.

Re: your list, I love the changes. Adding white for Orim's Chant reminds me of Gearhart's old Tide lists that used to run white/Chant for the mirror. Anyway, I think this is an improvement over the Blessing/Swarm plan from the World Championship list. Though, I'm not too excited about the Split Second tech, if you know what I mean. Wink

I just brainfarted, I thought this was the BW player who got second that postet the winning list of the deck he had played against in the final, I must have missed when I clicked on his thread. Heh, I was pondering a bit, because replying about the deck he lost to was kinda off topic, but now it actually hit home, and the other part just missed totally Very Happy

It has to be mentioned that he lost that game to a Ball Lightning.

Congrats on taking first.  I'd like to mention that I think my list probably should have a better game against you than Spencer's (SB Wretchs & Null Rod), but that's neither here nor there seeing as how you didn't have to face me, and if things had gone differently, I may have not put up the best fight for that matter either (I mentioned in Spencer's thread that I think I may have been a little mentally exhausted).

Yeah, playing you in round 2 was like a bye for you...

Sorry for making you play out your kills, but you killed me so quickly, I wanted to make the match last a little longer!

That, and watching the deck kill was very very interesting.

Congrats on the finish!

Damn.  Not a single Counterspell to stop the Iggy Nonsense.  If I was assured of never playing against a Counter or FoW, I would play Iggy till I was blue in the face.

The maindeck is always pretty much the same, not much room for improvement.

But the Sideboard.......... I have seen many versions.

4 Confidant
or
4 Orim's Chant
or
4 Xantid swarm

Any Pros/Cons? Discussion please Very Happy

I guess Chant is good vs. both Threshold and Solidarity.
Vs. Threshold you play Chant mainphase before you go off?
Vs. Solidarity you play it in response to their first spell trying to go off?

I really like Confidant vs. Threshold, you get so many cards and they dont know if they should side out their Plows.

I guess Xantid swarm is kinda "outdated" now?

I would imagine Chant is played in your upkeep against decks packing Reset the turn you intend to go for it, seeing as how Reset can't be played in the upkeep, meaning they'll have to have both Force of Will/Remand + the combo that turn.
