Hey guys, I want to buy some power, mainly lotus but not spending the full price for one in mint condition. I decided, since I dont care what condition it is in, Ill go for a heavily played/poor conditioned one, afterall Ill be using sleeves. Where can I find one of these? I have scoured ebay but it seems they will be a very very rare sight there. Do any of you know how someone can go about acquiring beat up power at a reasonable price?

I saw a really shoddy one go on eBay just recently, but it's still expensive. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200056715410&rd=1&rd=1I am actually surprised this one went for so high. The bad condition is the only thing that suggests to me that it's not fake. The seller's attitude, as well as some of his feedback, really makes it sound quite sketchy. Basically, I'd suggest you watch eBay like a hawk, but even then you probably won't really find what you're looking for at the price you want. EDIT: His name also makes me suspect him. Perhaps I am a pessimist, but I would think proxying power to sell online would be a good way to pay for college... |

LOL Honestly I dont even think thats in that bad of condition. I had a chance about 5 years ago to buy a lotus that went through a washer for $100 but for whatever reason decided not to. I mean I dont care if its bent or anything, I just want decently priced power-even if its ripped. So there arent any other places than ebay?

Last year at Gen Con Indy one of the dealers had an Unlimited Black Lotus that was literally torn in half. Seriously, two pieces; and he sold it for $150. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen.

Hey, that link that you posted about the Beta Black Lotus on eBay is 100% fake.
That guy has been selling fake Beta cards for a while - under this name, and before under other names. They are about as fake as you can get and still fool some people.
Just keep an eye out on ebay, but beware of fakes. A smart buyer can spot a fake literally 99.9% of the time - the other 1% should be covered by your backup plans like getting a refund with your CC company.

Neat that the guy is keeping the bidders private so that other people can't warn the bidders that they are buying fakes.

Yep, when that guy first showed up under a very high feedback name, I posted a link to it on MOTL.
A lot of MOTLers warned bidders, and in fact a few of the bidders who had won were MOTLers themselves, and escaped from losing money.
The scammer learned, and kept everything hidden so people don't know what is going on.
The only saving grace is that the cards are obvious fakes in the pictures - but unfortunately a lot of people still fall for it.

The majority of my high end trades are done on www.magictraders.com --- they also have a trade auction and sale bulletin board where people post stuff of what they have for sale. free to use and most people with higher references are going to be legit with their deals they offer - best of all, unlike stores, these prices people ask for are often up for negotiation. In addition, if you go to major events, you can sometimes discuss a relatively favorable trade for played pieces of power. Usually, most of the played pieces I have gotten from magictraders were not in that bad of condition, with my getting a decent condition unlimited and played condition unlimited mox emerald for $520.00, along with actually upgrading the condition of my un limited ancestral recall and coming up $20 ahead. If anything else, I can also be reached and can sell you some of the power I got currently, so let me know or enjoy the sites |

I, too, have been in the market for played power cards. One of the tricks I have put to use is a search on eBay's trading card section for "played -never". This filters out a lot of the noise and picks up basically all of the decent cards without having to think about it overly. Most users aren't eBaying "4@ MTG Stone Rain played cond", for example. The "-never" part is there because there are a lot of auctions for crummy cards that were "NEVER PLAYED", which obviously is not what we're after. I, too, can recommend the T/A forum on http://magictraders.com/. Post a BuyList there with what you're after and be patient. |
