Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this little predicament.
Does anyone here know what the legal age for proposing is in the UK? I've been told that it's 16, and I've been told that there is no legal limit but that 16 is the age for marriage with parental consent.
So, does anyone know? If anyone could help me with this or help me on my way to finding the answer I'd be VERY grateful, this means a lot to me!

There's no lower age limit as such to asking someone to marry, or agreeing to marry. As mentioned above, actually getting married has legal restrictions, but proposals and engagements don't.

Someone once sent me a PM asking about the age of consent in The Netherlands. I don't know if I should be insulted that he thought I would have that data readily available, or worried that TMD appears to be the place to look for such information |

There's a difference between getting married and being engaged. If you're ready to be engaged and you both feel you want to spend the rest of your lives together then it is a way of showing your commitment to each other until you can become wed. Once you are able to marry, though, doing so obviously shows this commitment even more; but until the situation allows marriage, engagement is all you can do in that respect. |
