Since Planar Chaos releases on February 2nd and this event is the following weekend, we could make Planar Chaos legal or have this as our last pre-Planar Chaos event, with Planar Chaos becoming legal for our March tournament. Sound off on your preference, either here on this thread, via PM, or email.

Thanks!

Well, we've heard back from many people who will be attending this event regarding the legality of Planar Chaos. Given that this event is a full 8 days after the official release (on February 2nd) and 3 weeks after this past weekend's prerelease, I don't foresee players having a problem acquiring the necessary cards, especially with 15 proxies.  So this is 20+ days of advanced notice that Planar Chaos will be legal at this event. It should spice things up a bit and allow people to try out their new tech.  Looking forward to another great Vintage event here at Myriad Games!

cool beans. I normaly argue for the inclusion of new sets, but then of course I normaly have a deck build around said new cards. Not so much this time. Still, should be fun. I'll be there if all goes well, at the very least to pick up my jacket.

I can't believe I won't be able to make this one.  I'm certain it will be a great time as always.  I look forward to winning one of those mugs.  Beverages always taste better when drank from a cup that you earned.  I can't wait to see the tournament reports.  Since I can't attend, I might as well make some predictions.

I predict Duress will out number Mana Drain in the top 8.
I predict Extirpate will show up in at least half of the top 8 decks.
I predict someone who has never been to Myriad is going to win the pre-registration Dual Land.

Good luck to everyone who attends!

We'll be adding some exciting new side events with prizes to this event!

Here are the details.

The Myriad Gear Challenge
Our Myriad Games T-Shirt Challenge has been renamed the Myriad Gear Challenge to reflect that we have Myriad Dice, Myriad T-Shirts, and new Myriad Mugs to award to winners. These Challenges take place during the event, generally during the later rounds. You play one game (unsideboarded) against me. If you win, you get Free Myriad Gear! If you lose... you get Free Myriad Gear! At the very least, you'll get some Myriad Dice just for playing! First option to play is given to people who have never played The Challenge before, then people who have not previously won, and finally people who have won previously. You're eligible to win various prizes, depending on what you've won previously and when. You may participate in The Myriad Gear Challenge once during each tournament.

FREE Vintage Draft
This free tournament will begin after Round 4 using repacks containing cards from Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, and The Dark. Each player will receive three packs and will draft as usual (40 card minimum deck). Players will then play 3 rounds of Swiss to determine the winners. There will be prizes for the top places. Prizes this time around will include a Dual Land for 1st place, booster packs for 2nd place, and a booster each for 3rd and 4th. While there is no charge for this event, the cards must be returned in order to ensure that we can have a card pool to maintain the event going forward. As such, there will be a $5 deposit upon entry which will be returned when the cards and lands are returned. There will be a limited number of slots for this event, so sign-ups will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Tumblin' Dice Tournament
Tumblin' Dice is a fast, dexterity based game of tossing dice, trying to score as many points as possible while knocking your opponents' dice off the board to prevent them from scoring. It's easy to learn (takes about 20 seconds to explain the rules) and fast and fun to play. To spice up the competition a bit, we're be offering up Russian Time Spiral Booster Packs as prizes for this mini-tournament, which will be run during the Top 8.

More Prizes!
We'll be continuing our contest for Best Deck Name as well as our Bonus Preregistration Dual Land drawing. And of course, each player who would like one will receive a complimentary world-famous Myriad Games Mana Cookie!

We're also continuing our New Player Bonus Booster Pack promotion. Each new player (one who has not played at Myriad Games before) will receive a Free Booster Pack!

And stay tuned for another update tomorrow announcing an entirely new contest with prizes!

So there you have it - even more reasons to get your friends together and come up on Saturday to join in the fun!

More reminders, updates, and a brand new Myriad Games Contest!

Top 8 Deck Types TBA
At the beginning of the Top 8, just after we award the prizes for Best Deck Name, we'll be announcing the deck types of the players in the Top 8. Deck lists will not be posted, allowing super secret tech to remain super secret for a time.  Instead, each player's name and deck type will be announced (e.g. Justin Timoney with U/W Fish, Jared Carter with Burninator, Crossman Wilkins with Elf-Long, Eric Dupuis with Mono Green Stompy, Dana Renfrew with White Weenie FTW, Pat Broderick with Sui-Black, Dave Feinstein with Drain-Tendrils, Rich Shay with Blood Moon Stax). This should give everyone a quick review of the decks that made the cut without spoiling all the cards in any given build.

Best of 5 Finals
The Top 2 will be a best of 5 match rather than the usual best of 3. We considered doing this for the entire Top 8, as done at Nationals and other larger events. We decided, in the interest of time, to make it just the finals. This should make for an exciting climax to the tournament!

New Contest: Best Tournament Report!
And in another new contest, we will be awarding a prize for the best tournament report. Reports must be posted to the Tournament Report section of TMD within one week of the tournament and must include Myriad Games in the title. Style points will be awarded for catchy titles, amusing anecdotes, and interesting coverage. Super style points will be awarded for good pictures from the event. Everyone is encouraged to respond to the tournament reports to let us know which you like best (you may PM myriadgames with comments if you cannot post directly to the Tournament Report forum). I will be the grand, august, final arbiter as to the final placement of reports. We may even award ancillary prizes if there are multiple reports that are deserving. Prizes will be reserved at Myriad Games and may be picked up the next time the winner(s) stop by.

The special prize for our inaugural Myriad Games Best Tournament Report Contest will be....

W[][]T!  After three attempts to get to Myriad Games, and not making it once... I finally am 99% sure I'm coming to this one!  Yay!  Even though this is my first Myriad tournament, I'm sure it wont be my last.

I've heard nothing but positive things about Myriad.  Be prepared for me to rock the scrub bracket, or... what usually happens...top 8 and then start making game loosing play mistakes even though I played the rest of the tournament perfectly, hehe.  I plan on catching plenty of sleep before this one, so I'm not yawning through the whole tournament.

Hope to see some familiar faces and play against some quality competition.  Drive isn't as bad as i thought either.  Expected it to be 2 hours, and after GPS-ing it and Mapquesting it should only be an hour and a half....or an hour with me driving.  Very Happy

See you all there!,

-->Marek

Also, am I still able to pre register the night before the tournament to get entered in the drawing for the dual?  Because i have have a friend seeing if he can skip work (which he said should be fine), so we plan on signing up tomorrow, like around 3 o clock-ish after school.

Hooray!

We are indeed very easy to get to, just a quarter mile left off Exit 2 from I-93. So even if you're driving from a ways away, it's a straightforward drive.

Preregistration does indeed run through tonight so be sure to give us a call at 1-800-459-5516, email vintage@myriadgames.com, or stop by Myriad Games to preregister.

Looking forward to another great tournament!

This tournament was awesome.  Greatly exceeded more than I could have even hoped for.  Will be trying to write a report for this bad larry of a tournament soon...and to Nataz...I don't think I can beat that video.  It's pretty sweet.  Don't worry boys and girls....theres more than just dancing brassman.  Very Happy  You'll be in for a treat with the Gaagooch video that Nataz made  Very Happy

I should be writing my tournament report either late tomorrow night, or Monday...even though I don't think it will win.  I had some pretty amazing lucksacs...both tournament games and tournament related, as well as some...well....not so good.

Thank you very much Dan and Sara for making this tournament as great as it was.

Hope to see everyone in the future.

P.S. Dan and Sara -  I forgot my black jeans jacket on the floor near the main counter where Dan was having the games for myriad gear.  If you could just grab it and put it aside...  I left a message on your store answering machine...and will call you about it tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks again!

Sounds like this was an amazing time.  I was unable to attend due to a Wedding, but I couldn't help wondering where in the tournament you guys were whenever I checked the time.  (It's 7 o'clock, they're cutting the cake, I wonder if they've cut to Top 8 yet Very Happy)  37 is a great turn out, and it seems like there's more excitement surrounding Type 1 in New England than I can ever remember.  I think events like this foster the feeling of fun and community for tournament players, which is so important for everyone to have a good time and come back the next time.  I can't wait for the reports so I can get a feel for just how good a time I missed out on.

I chose to go to a PTQ over this.  To quote the old knight from Indiana Jones 3- "You have chosen... POORLY."

*turns to ashes*

Glad to hear it was a good time.  Nice turnout too.  I'm sure having planar chaos legal didn't hurt.  I can't wait to see those lists, esp. the UBW that top 4'd.

I'm not crazy about seeing a dancing brassman, but the reports should be entertaining nonetheless.

Go figure a best tournament report award starts at the event I didn't go to =p
