Unless he made a last-second audible, Demonic Attorney played Dread Return Ichorid (not manaless). If he did change his mind, he's running Gifts.

Probasco and Davide are in the finals.    Davide is playing a 7/10 variant he made drunk last night according to Roland.

150+ people in the tournament

GAT made top 4.

Demonic Attorney was Slaver.

Slaver was everyone according to Roland.

Very little Ichorid though.   He said about 5 Ichorid and 5 Dragon.

Andy Probasco is TMDO X Winner!

I must say - I'm extremely embarressed to have so completely missed the utterly ridiculous raw power of Empty the Warrens.

In my Time Spiral set review, the two most important Time Spiral cards: Empty the Warrens and Dread Returns weren't even in my list of cards that would affect Vintage.

I also think it is quite clear that Gifts should def. be geared toward abusing Empty the Warrens, even over Tendrils.   Andy's deck does that brilliantly.

Andy has pushed ahead once more with a new and exciting Gifts list (well not brand new, but new enough) and has been rewarded for it by winning one of the toughest tournaments in Vintage.   Congrats man!

What was that? I read Anouncement thread and found nothing.

Swiss. Top 8. Prizes. What was different?

I'm in VT after a long stretch of hard driving.  Congratulations to all who made an impressive showing in a tough field, above all to Brassman through his laudable work advancing the Gifts archetype.  Incidentally, I played a modified version of Gifts incorporating aspects of most of the major archetypes.  A list should be posted soon.

Instead of cutting to top 8, the tournament cut to X-1-1 after 8 rounds.

That sounds like double elimination...

but with the possibility of say, 13 people making "Top 13".

Is that right?

Any advantages over normal swiss? Time, ID issues?

I'm in stratford right now (free hotel wifi ftw).

The metagame was crazy not predicted correctly by MANY people. well over 1/4 of the field looked to be gifts control. The rest of the archetypes were fairly varied with only a few oath, much less than expected ichorid, and quite a few salvagers decks. Of the notably hilarious choices people made for random decks, I saw reanimator with akroma and SotN, Cerebral Assassin, and even SX-belcher hybrid. Pretty AWESOME.

As for the x-2 not making elimination rounds, everyone got a chance to play elimination rounds in the mana drain tournament. So I think that it worked out well. How people like / dislike the philosophy is something of a larger topic than just this thread.

Perhaps evena UR list with burning Wish for tendrils in the board? Either way, Andy Probasco, good job!

Edit: Brassman should write an article for SCG...::hint hint::

There was a 90 man day 2 event, top 8 was:  2x Cross Long (GGs new long, Crossman WIlkins and Myself), 1 Bob-bomerman, 2 CS (Brian Demars, Jeremiah Rudolf), 1 Gifts (Mike Hetherington), 1 AK Warrens (Seth Levy), Ross Mirriam.dec (trinket mage fish)

GGs ran train on Stratfordbury, 1 winning yesterday and 2 in top 8 today.

ICBM put 2 into top 8 day 1, and I didn't play on day 2 :p

In all seriousness, good job to the gg's, especially the brassman.  Since I can't seem to win a Waterbury (ever :p), I'm glad brassman finally did.  I have no problem being on his hit list in top 8, he was extremely overdue.

Report coming when I get around to it.  Event was fun.  Lots of gifts... lots of empty the warrens... lots of tendrils.  Lots of storm.  Nice Job WOTC :p

GWS had 3 in attendance that I'm aware of and 1 of us split a 90 man Day 2.

That's bigger than almost every SCG event in 06!

Ross Mirriam.dec (trinket mage fish)

I'm not really sure who Ross Mirriam is but I know the deck that Erik Willams piloted started out similar to Simon MacRae's Bob-Bomberman list from SCG: Boston.  Since then it has been tweaked so that it is an entirly different beast.  Instead of running Cutpurse and Erayo it runs Jotun Grunt and Misdirection.  It's a pretty cool deck, I'm sure the list will be posted in a week or two.  At the tournament I snapped a few pictures but for the most part was too busy getting destroyed and hanging out.

The tournament site 45 mintues before the tournament was about to start.  The store is quite nice but it got a little crowded.

Erik Williams with Bob-Bomberman vs. Travis LaPlante's insane combo workshop deck.

Feature match between Outlaw and Ben Carp

The Wumpspot fighting through the hate

The team portion of Day 1 was quite close with Team RIT and Team ICBM Prime tied for points but ICBM had the better tiebreakers.  Congrats to ICBM Prime for making the 20 hour trek to take home the title.  The tournament was awesome as expected and there was even a free Timetwister side event Day 2 that Ray ran because he's just that awesome.  It was nice to see everyone there and I look forward to the next event.
