Nice to see an Affinity list there, though it's a little odd. Alot of the decks seem to have weird card choices if you ask me. What did you lost to for you to wind up in 8th?

Nice to see an Affinity list there, though it's a little odd. Alot of the decks seem to have weird card choices if you ask me. What did you lost to for you to wind up in 8th?

The Affinity list was played by a friend of mine, and since I forgot some of the cards he played it a little suboptimal..

I have a QnD report:

Round 1 against straight burn.
Game 1, I drop a 5/5 Terravore and set up a Confinement. He tries to burn me out in response but I have the Plow for my own 'Vore.
Game 2, I get burned out on like turn 3. He had Spike, Spike, Bolt, Chain, Rift Bolt, Lava Dart, Fireblast on me.
Game 3, I kill him on turn 3. Well, not really, but I have the Confinement.

Round 2 against Mono White Staxx
Game 1, I get slaughtered. I saw an Ancient Tomb he dropped during shuffling and I put him on Faerie Stompy. I keep a hand with 3 fetch and he drops a turn 1 Suppression Field and Wastes some of my land, after a 3Sphere. He said that he metagamed the Fields against me, hehe.
Game 2, I drop a Vore, Grip a Crucible and win with the 'Vore and a Monestary
Game 3, I have a 4/4 Bear, a Null Rod, a 4/4 Terravore and 2 lands in play. He drops a Ghostly Prison after a Smokestack and I Grip Prison, thinking I could kill him with the land + Rod in my hand to ditch to Stack. He has double Wasteland on me and I lose my board. He plays a topdecked Angel and I can't find a land (for my StP) to save my life.

Round 3 against Spring Tide
Game 1, I get slaughtered. He counters my Armageddon and wins.
Game 2, I Chant in response to a Meditate with 'Vore on the table. He FoW's. I Chant again, and win.
Game 3, I have the turn 1 Elf, turn 2 Mongrel, turn 3 Terravore and turn 4 Chant into Armageddon. Chant absolutely saved my life.

Round 4 against Mono B
Game 1, I get to like 2 life but I have a Loam online and a Monestary. I am vulnerable for a single turn, but he doesn't draw the Wasteland / Sinkhole and I draw 4 cards a turn, into Fatz.
Game 2, I plow a Wretch or two and double Mongrel takes it home after I 'Geddon for all of his land while he only has Nantoku Shade.

Round 5 against Iggy Pop
Game 1, he opens with Leyline. Turn 1 Elf, some cycle into a turn 3 Terravore (a 2/2, because of his Fetch..). He sets up for a turn 4 kill, but I have Armageddon to wreck him. He was forced to Intuition for lands, making Terravore 7/7, taking it home in just 2 turns.
Game 2, he opens with double Leyline. I play an Elf and a Mongrel, and sit on a Chant after a Null Rod. I resp to Ritual-Ritual with Chant and he burns for 5. I cycle into another Chant and win shortly there after.

We play some other games and I won 3 of them, losing 2. Chant is so good here..

In the t8 I played against Grunt Pikula (the Descendant version). This guy also metagamed against me Razz, as his friend is Wim Helder, who made t8 at the Dutch Open Legacy Champs and lost to me twice, so they tested this match extensively Razz. I won game 1 with a quick Terravore but lost game 2-3 on too much GY hate combined with Darkblasts Sad I mean, 4 Grunts and 4 Wretches? Razz

Greetz,

Hugo

My only question is, with all the hate geared towards you especially, what do you plan on doing? I know changing decks would probably be the least attractive option, but I could totally see you taking home a big tourney if you just brought a surprise deck instead of Vore.

Also, do europeans not like Goblins or what? lol.

Nah, I'll just change my list around a little in order to beat it. I like playing the deck Wink

Last time a tourney was in Nijmegen, inf. Goblins got played. This time, everybody was prepared for it and I think most Goblin players decided they'd play something else. There were like 3 Goblin decks :/

Oh man, I love Chant in here.  Would you say the high presence of Chant and Black/X decks helped keep combo out, or does something else account for no combo T8ing?

Edit: Also, it's recommended you jump up to 6 rounds for 33>x>61 players.

Seems pretty stock--templated off the early 2004 1.x lists.

Congrats, Hugo. Smile

Actually, I ID'd round 5 to a combo deck that eventually finished 9th on breakers.. There was some combo but most got knocked out by all the black decks (they were running rampant!)

I think we didn't play 6 rounds because of time issues..

Bjorn and I basically threw the deck together the night before, because Bjorn (who doesn't play Legacy) lived nearby and wanted to play. It worked really well though.
And thanks Smile

By the way, Chant is awesome. That card is the nut high, so get 4. I still need 4, if anybody wants to get rid of theirs..

With the obvious strength of Orim's Chant, have you considered moving it to the MD? It just seems like it could help out a lot in a lot of MUs, and never be truly dead. Anyway, congrats on your performance, really glad to see a varied metagame performing there. Nice job beating two combo-decks too, Chant and 'Geddon really seemed to deliver there.
