If I attack my opponent with 2 Mishra's Factories and he attempts to ET them, do they get returned or is he not allowed to target the MF's because they are lands ?

I tried to explain he could not target them due to them being lands and he quit, probably  since the damage would have been lethal if I'm right about ET.

Mishra's Factory |Land| T: Add 1 to your mana pool. / 1: Until end of turn, Mishra's Factory becomes a 2/2 Assembly-Worker artifact creature. It's still a land. / T: Target Assembly-Worker gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

Echoing Truth {1U} |Instant| Return target nonland permanent and all other permanents with the same name as that permanent to their owners' hands.

Echoing Truth targets a "nonland permanent" and Mishra's Factory explicitly says "It's still a land". Since the Factory is still a land, it is not a nonland, thus, it is an invalid target.

In the future, please make sure to include the oracle text of the cards in question. In this case, doing so would have answered your question.

Mishra's Factory |Land| T: Add 1 to your mana pool. / 1: Until end of turn, Mishra's Factory becomes a 2/2 Assembly-Worker artifact creature. It's still a land. / T: Target Assembly-Worker gets +1/+1 until end of turn. 4E,AQ-U/AQ-R/REN [Vin Leg legal.]

Echoing Truth {1U} |Instant| Return target nonland permanent and all other permanents with the same name as that permanent to their owners' hands. DST,DSTTD-C [Vin Leg Ext legal.]

So, no, an animated Mishra's Factory is not a legal target for Echoing Truth.

EDIT: Bah, beaten by four seconds.

In addition, you might try to figure stuff out by yourself by searching using the card search at the wizards site. These contain the current wordings of all cards, and you can learn a lot by trying to figure it out by looking there first. This might also be a useful link Wink

Edit: What they said... Very Happy

Well the point here is that I was 99% positive that ET could not target an animated factory, I just wanted verification. Some n00b tried to ET my lands when I swung for lethal damage, we argued and he ended up quitting. Just wanted to be sure I was right.

That you should be including Oracle text for relevant cards in your questsion is correct.

However, "you might try to figure it out for yourself" is completely out of line.  The entire point of this forum is so that people can get answers to their questions and don't have to figure it out for themselves (often can't figure it outfor themselves).  Just because the answer becomes obvious to you (or even to the majority) by simply reading the card does not mean the answer is obvious to everyone, and doesn't mean the person asking should be told or suggested that they shouldn't be asking.

My post was intended to give silvernail some pointers to the rules-forum rules and a generally useful link. "Figuring out by yourself" was meant to reflect reading the wording on wizards when looking it up to post it, thereby possibly already answering the question and if that is not the case it obviously is okay to post the problem here. Apparently my post didn't fully reflect my intentions, so my apologies for that.
