Wow, all different decks types in the top 8. I havnt seen two workshop decks top 8 in awhile. I was a bit disapointed I lost two that 5 Color Stax player that got second place, he beat me twice that day. First round then again in top 8.  Sad

Not showing Roland =  Sad

Showing Roland's proxied trinisphere more than makes up for it though.

That thing is nuts  Very Happy

Thank you for the results.  One of these days I'll try to make the 6 hour drive to the blue bell, it seems worth it.

I took a picture of his match and the flash seemed to irritate him.  He gave me this nasty look.

With people coming back from school, we should be getting close to 50 people each event this summer.

Get your arse out here so I can make up for knocking me out of two top 8s, and I can do it on my own turf. ...I'm not bitter.

But seriously, these things are always a blast. The people are mostly cool to hang around with, Mike (the TO) is a great guy, and the prize structure is usually pretty good. To be honest, I think this is the worst prize structure in a while. It's been two moxen before, it's been a Lotus, and the most recent Blue Bell before this one was a mox and a Shop.

I'll talk to Mike about the prize structure.  I know he A) wanted to just change things up a little bit  and B) was not expecting this sized turnout for March based on prior experience.     I think he realizes that shaking things up should come with 3rd and 4th place and that 1st and 2nd needs to stick to P9.  As for B, the expectations were slightly smaller than it turned out to be.  Gotta say that we can't be unhappy about being wrong that and the thought process will definitely be adjusted for his next tournament.

If we truly do break 50 participants, I might be able to get him to go Mox, Mox for the following tournament.  I can possibly talk him into mox, mox library or mox, mox, drain for the upcoming one based on the last 2 turnouts plus the return of college students.  If he can manage that, it will be a big boost and it should help draw some of these guys who are complaining about the long drive  Wink .  The purpose is to keep growing Blue Bell.  I'd love to see 75 people and T4 getting power.

I highly dout Blue Bell will ever break 50. Come on look at Starcitygames last Vintage tourament. They bearly got over 50 people both days and that was with them giving out the full power 9 plus boosterpack prices for some who didnt top 8. If he does want big turnouts he will need to increase his prizes.

I personly make it to every Bluebell tourament because its just over 1 1/2 hrs from Hershey, and plus I love playing and most of the people are kool.

I think you misinterpreted my meaning. What I meant was that this prize structure was good, but less so than most of our other ones. I didn't mean it was bad.

This post doesn't make sense. You say that SCG can't attract more than 50 people when they give out a full set of P9, but somehow if Mike increases his prize support, he can expect to attract 50+? That seems like flawed logic.

Awesome tourney, and great pix Desolutionist.  If I gave you a mean look, you'll have to excuse me... I love pics, just not flashes... I might start convulsing!!! j/k

Congrats to the top 8, especially my testing partners in crime, the Forino Brothers.  It might as well be Mario and Luigi bashing up t8's and taking our princesses.  I wish I would have performed better than 4-2, but sometimes people like to throw out 14 goblin tokens at ya AND duressing the out in your hand in game 3.  Good games all, I had a great time!

I imagine that most people in the community show up for good competition, not for a better 2nd or 3rd place prize. SCG didn't attract many people due to the timing of the last event.

Who wouldn't want to come to an interesting meta like Blue Bell is shaping up to be? Looks like we can dismiss talk of restricting Gifts and Grim.

P.S. Roland - I didn't realize you and Feinstein became so close after your match at TMD to where he wants to see full body pics of you  Wink

There were 2 locals from our playgroup who were not in attendance. Plus there is a contigent from Delaware of about 4 guys who have not been here for the past few. I think they may show up again come summer.  Only 1 guy came down from the Lehigh Valley..we often have 3 or 4.  And there are 2-3 guys who have come from Pittsburgh in the past (but again, I haven't seen them for a while, I'm hoping they come back).  I do not think 50 is out of the question.

I talked to Mike last night. He already has a good prize structure in place for the next tournament. I'll let him make the specific announcements, though.

Khahan (or Mike if you read this)
I know this has been said before, but the only flaw I see with the Blue Bell tourneys is a lack of a head judge. Especially as the attendence grows I think we really need somebody with some kind of authority to make rulings, etc...

I also think you should bring back the Type 1 side event. If people are really going to continue to travel from long distances, it would be cool to have another chance to play if you scrub out

This is definitely true. I know we had a 'judge' at the last event, but I don't think he was very experienced. I heard him answer one easy rules question, and he was wrong. Also, there was one of the players who was helping out with rulings, which should never be the case. I also heard him answer one judge call, and again it was an incorrect ruling. So, I think you need to try to find a DCI certified judge for these things. If you'd like, Mike, I can contact a few that I think would be good and refer them to you. (or even just give you e-mail addys)

The player helping was me. And yes, shortly after making the ruling, I realized the ruling made was wrong..but it was also too late to go back at that point.

I talked to the player who got the bum end of the deal later and he actually felt I had made the right ruling. Didn't make me feel any better about it (for reference this was the true believer situation...which was very easy and should not have botched).

Luckily, for the most part, the Blue Bell players are experienced and usually somebody knows the answer. However, this does  not change the fact that as we go forward a head judge would be nice.

Yeah. I wasn't trying to knock you for it. I was just using it to prove that I think we do need a judge and that the judge needs to be experienced.

Also, Roland, thanks again for the Trinisphere! I might have to put my Drains down for one of these things and play Workshops since I now have 2 Shops and the hottest Trini in Jersey.

I'm at Penn State University without a car currently but during the summer when I'm at home I'd love to try and make the trip down. The tourney sounds like it was a lot of fun and if Blue Bell is trying to push for 50+ players I'd be glad to try and help out.

How long of a drive, time-wise, is Blue Bell from say the Easton or Allentown area? You can't always trust mapquest to be accurate.

Why hasnt Colby Evenpense been going to Bluebell touraments? I called him to let him know about a week before the tourament, and he said he might go. He hasnt been to the past few touraments. I know hes been working lots of hours and playing World of Warcraft with Dan, maybe that has something to do with it.
