For a card creation contest on another forum I made this card, accepting that it would probably cross the line on the powerlevelboundary. And obviously, it did...

However, it did bring me on the track of the card I am suggesting here:

Suspend Counterspell
2UU
Instant
Counter target spell.
Suspend 4 - U
1: add or remove a time counter from ~this~. Use this ability only when ~this~ is suspended.

Cool idea, or total rubbish? Feedback welcome of course.

Current wording:
Prophetic Denial
2UU
Instant
Counter target spell.
Suspend 4 - U
1: Put a time counter on ~this~ or remove a time counter from ~this~. Play this ability only if ~this~ is suspended.

I think it's a cool idea. Needs a second effect to spice it up.

Maybe 1 {U} {U} {U} cc, change the time counter activation cost to  {U}, and add a cantrip?

Maybe keep your wording and add RFG the countered spell?

Seems kind of bland on its own.

Edit: Even better idea.

2 {U} {U}

Suspend 5,  {1} {U}

 {U}: Add or remove a time counter from this.

When there are no more time counters on this, draw a card.

I think this is quite potent; it lets a blue control deck spend its mana on turn 1 for something useful on a later turn. While not usable turn 2, turn 3 this is a cheap, efficient counterspell and turn four it is one for 1U; this might be too good as you can either draw this and use it on turn 4 without danger or suspend it and use it on turn 4, while still being able to cast a draw spell. I'm not sure if it'd be too good without testing, though I suspect it would need a higher suspend cost and/or higher hardcast cost.

Disagree.  Feature bloat seems to be a huge problem in the CCF at the moment.  I think this sort of card can stand on its own just fine.  I think it's a very interesting effect.  At the moment the earliest it can counter something is turn 3 which is the right time.

Suspend 4 - U
versus
Suspend 3 - 1U

Thoughts?

I agree that it does not need a second effect to be usable. I definately prefer the Suspend 4 - U version, as this is more blue. It starts cheaper, while giving you more control over the card itself (remains in play longer for no investment, and effectively has suspend 3 for 1U too).

Assuming we keep the suspend 4 - U version, it is time for a name, flavour, etc?

Name sounds cool. The wording on adding / removing counters still feels icky to me though. Somebody else have that feeling too?

Another slick idea would be "Whenever you play a spell at a time counter to <this>.  Whenever an opponent plays a spell remove a time counter from <this>.

Enjoy.

I am more for the wording from parallax, which gives you way more control over the spell.

Time for a neat flavour text?
