Hello TMD'rs,

You may or may not have heard of me. I am Steve "Zherbus" O'Connell, former owner and founder of this site you spend so much time on. I left the MTG community a few years (just about 2 exactly) and I am back as Administrator with Jacob. Jacob and I are working on a batch of changes in layout, policy, and structure to TMD that will currently work toward the ultimate goal as the number one site in Vintage Magic.

So far we've implimented:

1) Eliminate Vintage Forum - Consolidate with Vintage Open Forum. Noone posts in the closed Vintage forum, and they really haven't for years since the coming of Team secrecy. As a result, TMD will be the place for the pulse of Vintage Magic via tournament reports and annoucements for the experienced Vintage player. For the newer player, it'll be a place to get up to speed on what's what. And for all, it'll be a place to discuss general Vintage theory. The changes will reflect this.

2) Re-Order Forums. Change Vintage Magic to Eternal Magic.

Order (* denotes catagory, - Denotes Subforum):

Eternal Magic

*Vintage Development Forum

-Vintage Open

-Vintage Improvement

* Vintage Tournament Forums

-Vintage Tournament Reports and Results

-Vintage Tournament Announcements

* Eternal Articles

- Finished Articles

- Article Submissions

* The Mana Leak (Legacy Forums)

- Legacy Decks: Proven

- Legacy Decks: Development

- Legacy Format Discussion

- Legacy Tournament Reports, Results, and Announcements

- Legacy Adept Lounge

3) Eliminate the Magic Community forum. There's no real reason for a closed community forum currently. We decided to combine these two and let the community... well, discuss community.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

Things to come:

There are a few things Jacob and I are talking about, and about to bring to TMD moderators. There's going to be meaningful areas for adepts, as well as full members. I'd love to disclose more details now, but I don't want to give away all the secrets just now.

Also, keep watching the Articles forums as it'll be the place for the top level of theory and primers in the Eternal formats.

Stay tuned for more details and updates. Suggestions will only be considered via PM's to Jacob or I (so don't post them here). Criticisms are likewise only welcome in private in a thoughtful manner. Please only post if you have questions that need clearing up.

Will Moderators be changed? With less forums to moderate, I can see some people being demoted, or if you want to have more emphasis somewhere, some being promoted. Also, will the general moderation change at all? I don't really have a problem with it, but some might.

Keep up the good work, Steve, it's fucking great to see you back here. Oh, and J_Orlove too.

Moderators should remain the same at this point.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Juju.

The site looks good, guys.  I was a little confused at first - when I tried to click on a thread in Basic User Community and got a card creation thread - but after actually looking at what I was doing it seems well layed-out and pretty intuitive.  Looking forward to the rest of the changes!

A couple more small changes:
1) Card Creation Forum is now a child board of the Casual Forum
2) Standard, Extended, Limited Forum is now a separate forum, no longer a child of the Community Forum (because that made no sense)
3) the archived boards are now all child forums of the new Archive Forum, which changes absolutely nothing, but no longer wastes a bunch of space for people who don't minimize that forum.

So most forums, in general, are now all access to all users (basic users or full members)?  I understand TMD moderating standards will still  be high.

For now... This is just the first step in a lot of changes in policy and structure that we've got planned.

Good to have you back! I just recently noticed the lack of the restricted vintage section and wandered around until I found this thread  Wink

Most changes seem reasonable, I hope for the better. Just a curiosity: will be the "Full User" term still be used or not? Without a restricted access, it serves only as a title, even if it can still be meaningful just as that.

I like to put in a request to have the "Upcoming Events" thing work better.  There was a short time when different events should show up on that the thing.  It would be great to see the event name and perhaps the state in parenthesis.  That way users don't have to comb the announcement forms for events that are coming up in their area.

I'm not sure who updates that thing (a mod, the TO, ?) but it would be great to get that feature working.

That rests soley on the TO who opens the tournament thread. When the thread is created, they can enter the criteria of the tournament and it automatically goes in to the upcoming events. If there's a problem with it, we'll have to chase that down, but in my experience, it's a PEBKAC issue.
