Grave Peril 1 {B} Enchantment

When a non-black creature comes into play, sacrifice Grave Peril. If you do, destroy that creature.

An interesting SB card, it removes Worldgorger Dragon and non-Sutured Ghoul Dread Return's creatures, as well as pre-empts Goblin Welders, non-Darksteel Colossus Tinker targets, Goblin Welder targets, Xantid Swarms and all of 5/3 and Fish's creatures. It's a jack of all trades, master of none SB card that covers a lot of bases against a lot of different decks.

Could be good, could be terrible.

This seems (almost) strictly worse than Terror and Diabolic edict--cards which see little play in T1.

I can't imagine that a sorcery speed preemptive destroy effect that can't removes creatures on the board or hit black creatures will ever be the best option in any eternal format (or any constructed format for that matter).

I believe there are far better cards that destroy your opponents creatures. For the same mana cost Diabolic Edict is probably more effective for Vintage.

The card that comes to mind when I see this is Seal of Doom. It is played one turn, but remains in play until something comes into play. This may be good, because it allows you use your mana for Grave Peril one turn, untap, and do what you please after. However, the problem I see with this is that it can essentially be baited by another less-powerful creature, followed by the "better" one.

I think that the poster's point was that in Type 1 there are so few creatures that it is effectively impossible to 'bait' this card.  However, I agree that it is very bad indeed.

Well if you are intended to use it solely to fight WGD, and Sutoured Ghouls, then yes, it would work fine. But other decks that use creatures, such as UW Fish, can easily bait a card a card like this with an un-wanted Savannah Lion, to sneak something better into play.

I'd rather play with seal of removal or seal of doom....or ofcourse seal of fire.

But...i'd much rather not play any of those cards Smile
