Here is a brief report. Rnd 1 Jordan Reynolds TPS We both mull to 5, He plays land go, I answer it with Bazzar draw discard dredger. His life goes from 20 to zero in 2.5 turns. Game 2 is pretty much the same, though I do take 2 from a cycled street wraith that transforms into a Golgari grave troll.
Rnd 2 Bill Brunnett- Some version of 5cc Game 1: I am on the play and end up mulling to one which finds me a bazzar. It takes me a few turns to finally get some dredgers going and he living wishes for a morphling. We begin to race and soon dead ichorids turn to zombies. He vamps at 2 life to get deed, blows it up for 2, killing a dryad arbor and a narcomoeba, but to his dismay they turn into zombies as well and as powerful as superman is, 2 ichorids and 2 zombies are to much. We finish the game up with 9 mins left in the round. Game 2: Once again I mull to 1 to find...Chalice of the void. I draw play chalice and pass. Then we play draw go...meanwhile he drops 3 moxes into my chalice. Once i hit 8 cards I discard Troll and dredge...and dredge. I never hit a land drop, but end up killing him with dread return for Sage into zelot.
Rnd 3 Cullen Cox-Hide and Seek Control. Game 1: I get a bazzar, he seeks me a few times, but my guys out race his hate, he scoops at 25 life because I have lethal on the board. Game 2: He destroys me with hate. He extirpates all my dredgers and gets a turn 1 needle on bazaar. Ughh. Game 3: I end up getting out 3 bazzars, dredging my entire deck, and swing in for the kill
Rnd 4 Jonathan Gilley ID Rnd 5 Steve O'Connell ID
Top 8 While we are outside smoking, I correctly predict a loss, as which normally happens to me, after smoking thru the swiss, I usually have a pain full demise in the top 8. Steve O'Connell 4cc Game 1: I open with bazzar and chalice for 0, we play a few turns and its off to game 2. Game 2: He opens with Leyline, not good for me. I bazzar hoping to find reverent silence, He gets a platz down. I silence, he FOW, I silence again then grudge his angel. He oaths up a DSC and hits me. I dredge and bazzar on my turn hoping to hit my last Narcomoeba which would allow me to dread return a big grave troll to stop his DSC, but alas the narcomoeba decides to stay hidden. Game 3: Steve once again opens with Leyline, gains 6 life and drains my silence then uses the drain mana to cast Platz, talk about insult to injury! I get a dryad arbor and begin to race him, his 4 to my 1. When im at 1 life, I play chalice swing for one and pass and extend my hand to which Steve shakes and says I scoop, as he has to get home. To say Im suprised is an understatement. I thank him and its off to the next round.
Top 4 Hill Redwine Stax I open turn 1 bazzar and leyline. He answeres with COB and welder. I get a Narcomoeba off a dredge and he tinkers in a sundering titan killing off a dryad. He swings in with his guys. I then go nuts with dredging, dread returning 2 sages and a zelot and swing for lethal. Hill looks shell shocked as he hasnt played in a year and hasnt seen the new ichorid in action. Game 2 he jokingly sides in chaos orb, but even that cant stop him from the ichorids that come from the yard.
Top 2 Bo Stinnett Tps I open my 7 and its really strong. Bazzar, chalice, dread return, zelot, troll, thug, imp. He answers with Usea, ruby, chrome mox, timetwister. Ouch. My next 7 isnt as good, but I have a dredger and a street wraith. I draw discard and eot cycle. I end up getting a couple of Narcomoeba's in play, but he builds up a storm count, gifts and wins. Game 2: I explode out of the gates dread return a sage into a zelot. Game 3: We both open up with leyline, but I also have a chalice, bazzar, dryad and ray of revelation(why i didnt run emerald charm, I have no idea, but the ray stays in my hand all game.) I beat him down to 14 when he decides to go for it. He plays some moxes into my chalice builds up a storm count and desires for 6. He gets rebuild, leyline, brainstorm, dark rit, rit,Infernal contract. He contracts, brainstorms and finds demonict tutor, rits rits and gets tendrils...ughh...so close yet so far. Afterwards it was of to Chiles with Brandon,Cody,Hill and Cullen. Props: To Brandon for getting the tournament organized and for giving us a place to crash. To Hill for making t8 after a long lay off. To Cody for making another t8, one day you will beat Ichorid!(His only loss in the swiss, and in the Top8) Double Props: To Steve for making top 8 after a long lay off and scooping, I did not expect that, and I really do appreciate it.
Slops: Gas prices!
