I would be interested in coming. Where is this located? Is this one event, or a season, or... ? Details in English would be nice, since most people at TMD don't speak Spanish.

It's been held in Madrid. Last year there was one with 8 Lotus as prizes, this year there was this one.

I never saw this advertised at TMD. It might be a good idea to post about it well in advance so that people outside of Spain can make travel plans if necessary.

They're both artists. The girl in the green (Nerea something) did a bunch of card alterations that can be found in the pimp thread (not the proxy thread) at SCG.

Thank you for the great tourney report and statistics!

One thing I found especially interesting was the metagame breakdown. Manaless Ichorid was the most played deck, and out of 149 participants, only 6 chose GroATog, and only 6 chose Bomberman. I would have expected those to be the 2 most played decks in the field. Out of 13 Manaless Ichorid decks present, 0 made top 32, and out of 12 Hulk Flash decks present, only 1 made top 32.

The tournament appears to be held in Madrid. Is this annual or a couple of times a year, or what exactly? I too would be interested, but with international flights from the USA to Europe being quite expenive, us Americans need quite a bit of lead time to make travel arrangements.

Very interesting information. Thanks Chapuzas!

The tournament hasn´t been posted in TMD due to the restrictions that I have had for posting in the needed area. Anyway, the tournament was posted in SCG, and Italian, Garman, and french pages, but no one from outside of Spain came to the event.

There was an artist, and the other girl is my girlfriend, which was helping me running the tournament.

Anyway, there was another girl, but only one, playing the tournament.

I went ahead and made you a Tournament Organizer. For anyone else in a similar position, This Thread (stickied at the top of this very forum) is the place to go if you want to be able to announce tournaments on TMD.

...only 6 chose GroATog

Really this is not true. At least three of the "TurboGush" lists are really GroATog with mana-base like GaT, defense like GaT and a defensive playstyle like the Mon, Goblin Chief did for the France Cup. But the list were presided to beat Combo and Oath and have less dead cards against control. We played the Dryads in the side.
However I also expected more than nine GroAtog players and more Bomberman players, but for any reason in the spanish forums all the people said that groatog were a subpar deck, and very little players take it. Also in the spanish forums were a lot of hype about combo and a lot of players took combo or anticombo decks. I really don't understand the bomberman issue beacuse tournaments in Spain were infected with bomberman from a year ago, with a lot a tops from some successful players. Maybe these players failed on take the new aproach to the deck beacuse obviously the anti-gifts version of the deck will not work anymore. Who knows...

2 of the 8 rector flash decks made top 32 though which I find interesting.  Also the hulk deck which made top 16 was playing kiki/karmic guide rather than Slivers which seems odd to me.  The event seems to have been a great success though.  I suppose wizards can't officially support these things but it'd be nice if we found a way to get the top european players over for gencon as well as other players from around the world to create a REAL world championship.  right now it's kinda the world championship of people who show up in indianapolis some weekend.

EDIT: I also just noticed that 4 of the top 8 decks were packing 4 leyline in the side and one had 4 leyline AND 4 planar void.  playing ichorid in that field must have SUCKED.

What is even more interesting is that only ONE Bomberman made top 32; so much for having zero bad matchups...

And how does TPS win the whole thing while Hulk Flash isn't even capable of playing at the top tables?

But then again, Lord of Atlantis Fish won a friggin' Sapphire...

Graveyard hate. The most expected combo-decks was the flash decks, and along with Ichorid, it falls to graveyard hate. Right, there was a lot of Tendrils decks, but the players was less prepared for it than for the Flash.dec. Also the TPS lost in the final against the Tyrant Oath.

I wanted to go to GenCon this year, but I had to suspend the travel. Maybe next year a group of Spanish players were there.
