My 7th event saw the lowest turn out so far, but the competition did not suffer because of it.  With 3/4 of the Top 4 at TMD Open present, some of the best performing players in Vintage were forced to face off during the swiss, leaving several top names out of the Top 8.  Congratulations to Micah Greenbaum and Zack Knowlden for splitting 1st.

You can find the original announcement here.

Everyone who played received a Proxy Time Walk, which does not count as a proxy at my events, or at Myriad Games events.

Arik Pogrebinsky won the pre-registration door prize of a Foil Proxy Mishra's Workshop.  Thank you to everyone who pre-registered, it makes running the event much smoother.

Wow.  A mean deck made the finals.

Looks like GAT dominance has returned, as I knew it would.

Rich: I see you are running Regrowth.   What made you want to include it?

How good were the disrupts?

Yup GAT is a pretty mean deck. That Scroll Tendrils list wasn't bad either.

Stefan E. has 11 cards listed in his SB. Any chance of getting the 4x missing cards? Just curious as I like Tendril's decks myself.

Leyline of Singularity is a clever idea that Oliver had. He cut Leyline of the Void for them in his Bomberman build, pointing out that they pitched to Force of Will and could be hardcast. I thought that Leyline of the Void was better, and so I continued realizing that.

Then Outlaw crushed me in the Finals of Waterbury. Not close -- just crushed. And so, I thought about how I could have prevented that from happening. My answer was that four Leylines were too few. You can't really mulligan much into one -- anything below six cards means that even if you do hit a Leyline you won't be able to defend it properly anyways. So, the solution to Flash became running _more_ Leylines. Singularity stops both Flash kills -- the Kiki Kill and the Sliver kill. It doesn't stop the Disciple kill, but I think that won't be an issue. And, it's certainly fine against Ichorid, too. So, six Leylines seems fine while Flash is expected.

Dedicating nearly half of your board for Flash isn't a questionable call, however, the problem I see with this strategy is Flash's ability to remove them. The deck generally boards in 3-4 of enchantment-removal spells, if not a completely different win condition that has little interaction with the graveyard. (e.g. Oath, Goyfs, etc.) I am not positive about Flash's sideboarding plan versus GAT, but I believe they generally board in 3-4 Revs to fight Leylines. Say you are to run other hate, not only Enchantments, such as Engineered Explosives, for instance. They must now board different forms of removal in order to win the third game.

I'm surprised Rich didn't just win this. Only 3rd/4th? Psh.

 > 1/3 of the tournament was GAT?  Yeesh.  What's interesting to me is that, despite its ubiquity, it had fairly average results; the GAT-in-the-T8 : GAT-in-the-tournament ratio was about even, and it filled most of the top slots as well as the bottom 3 slots.

It's long been my observation that New Englanders, both in Type One and in other formats, enjoy playing control decks.

more interestingly, feinstein plays stax? wow.

I've dabbled in stax before, but prefer not to taint myself with it in general :p

This tourney seemed like the optimal one to break it out again because I figured the room would explode with gush...

it did.

I lost in top 4 to scroll tendrils... bascially losing the die roll stopped me from turn 1 trinisphere turn 2 balance... instead he duressed those :p

Game 2 he fought to get out a bargain and although I tried to stop him by hardcasting leyline, he had the FOW and then yawg will/emptied me into oblivion.

I lost in about 12 minutes.  Rich lost in 10.

I can't say much more than what was already said in this thread.  The hall was terrible because of no AC, but at least Eric won't be holding it there again in warm weather.  The turnout was small but the competition was fierce.  I wish the prizes were a little better outside of 1st/2nd but oh well =/

Thanks to Eric for holding this anyway, I know you didn't end up making much money on the day.  =(
Hopefully you get more people for the next event.  The gateway comics location just seems flat out better than Cole Hall, even in non-warm weather.

It was good to see everyone at this and thanks for Eric for allowing me to plug my event.  I'll hopefully see everyone at Myriad on the 11th and my tourney on the 12th.  =)

It's good to see the NE vintage scene as strong as it is right now despite the format being poopy.

In all fairness, giving out Foil Gush and Foil Juton Grunt was a $30 hit.  Had I known you and Rich wouldn't meet in the finals, I would have made sure to not put foils for 3rd & 4th.   Very Happy

It's assuring to know that someone can post a statement in a restricted forum and then threaten and belittle an onlooker who has asked (politely) for some elaboration.  Free discussion rules.  Way to go!

Adding nothing to the thread does not, however, rule.  You can freely discuss with my PM inbox why you're receiving this full warning if you like, but for now the short version is this:

2. Inflammatory Posts
4. Lack of Content

Keep this stuff to PMs and keep the sarcasm to a minimum.
