36 players (WOW) participated in the 2nd Vintage Proxy Tournament at BLACK GOLD.  This was an enormous boost for the Vintage community in Colorado.  With the help of the Colorado Crew, Black Gold has become the place to play Vintage in the entire Rocky Mountain Region.  I am too busy getting ready for GenCon so I will simply post the final standings (with deck choices) and playoffs.  Here goes....

PROPS:
Colorado Crew for coming up with the prize.
Jeff Kokx (owner of Enchanted Grounds) for bringing 6 or 7 players.
Tombstalker - It came out of nowhere and smashed my face in.  Nice play Justin

SLOPS:
My f**king airconditioning is evidentally doesn't like Magic players and cut out late in the afternoon.  Sorry guys.
Chalice of the Void set to 0 when I'm on the draw.  It lost me a match.
Zach.....hope you snap out of your slump soon.  You're a better player than that.

Sorry this is all I am posting.  SEE YOU ALL AT GENCON!  Let's keep the championship in Colorado.

<<hiss/boo>>  Why bother posting this lame tease at all. This is next to useless without deck lists.

I'm sure there are several people in the Top 8 who are going to Gencon, so not posting top 8 lists is totally justified. Plus results like this give insight into a general metagame, and the strength of flash. That deck is silly. That said, I do know two of the top 8 deck lists (which seem like the two most exciting decklists in top 8, if not the best) that my friend and I played. And seeing as we aren't going to gencon, here you go:

Duncan - Goblines 1st

4 Leyline of the Void
4 Goblin Lackey
4 Aether Vial
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Goblin Pile Driver
1 Stingscourger
1 Gempalm Incinerator
2 Siege-Gang Commander
3 Goblin Matron
4 Goblin Warchief
4 Goblin Ringleader
1 Magus of the Moon
1 Goblin Sharpshooter

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mana Crypt
2 Simian Spirit Guides
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
3 Barbarian Ring
10 Mountains

SB
1 Magus of the Moon
1 Blood Moon
4 Pyrokinesis
2 Red Elemental Blasts
3 Shattering Spree
4 Pyrostatic Pillar

Stephan - Meandeck Tendrils 2K7 (AKA Nowhere near perfect storm)- 6th

Creatures
1 Street Wraith

Artifacts
1 Black Lotus
4 Chromatic Sphere
1 Chrome Mox
4 Darkwater Egg
1 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring

Instants
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Brainstorm
4 Cabal Ritual
4 Dark Ritual
1 Demonic Consultation
4 Repeal
4 Spoils Of The Vault

Sorceries
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Edge of Autumn
4 Land Grant
3 Night's Whisper
4 Tendrils Of Agony
1 Yawgmoth's Will

Lands
1 Bayou
1 Polluted Delta
1 Tropical Island

SB
4x Duress
4x Force of Will
1 Vampiric Tutor
2x Hurkyl's Recall
1x Imperial Seal
1x Chain of Vapor
3x Random Jank I don't think he ever brought in.

Goblin Sharpshooter did next to nothing for me all day, even though it seemed like a solid last ditch effort against a lot of decks. Seemed good in the mirror, obv, but apparently my love for Magic related podcasts and brand new tech is not universal. Other then that, it was pretty much standard for a new goblins builds, and maindeck leylines are amazing against a field of 6 ichorid decks. Because of that, I won turn 0 twice. My losses in the swiss were to Paul and Adam (Maindeck engineered explosives are brutal.)

Stephan's deck is insanely fun to goldfish and watch. Probably not so fun to play against, or play with for that matter. Despite it's utter lack of protection, it's worth mentioning that the deck did win turn one on the draw through two force of wills AND after having his ancestral misdirectioned. Also, it doesn't slow down to leyline, which seems really good. Still, Stephan played that deck out of love, and it certainly isn't for the week of heart. Especially against decks with Force of Wills. That said, he did beat both Gro and Bomberman in the swiss, losing to Gro (Paul, 2-1) and Flash (lost the coin flip) to top8 at 4-2. Darkwater Egg ftw.

Thanks again to the Colorado Crew, Jeff Kokx, my other friends whom we beat out of the top 8 on tie breakers, team ICBM for the deck, and the rest of the competitors at the tourniment.

I'm assuming that Duncan defeated Marcus in the semis.    The original post has Travis losing both in the semis and the quarters.

Hey it's travis posting from jim's computer.

yeah i lost in the semi's to gobbos not in the quarters. the deck was savage. i don't feel so bad loosing to him, since he won the whole thing and he seemed like a solid player.

thanks again carl for holding the event, and thanks to lou for coming up with the time walk.

hope to see you all at the next event!

I love how in a tourney like this there is 1 gobbos which wins it all and 2 flash decks that both top 8 but it seems to show more and more that each tournament has a lack of 1 top deck and yet it still does very well showing that the format while extremely powerful as a whole is somewhat balanced.

I actually played stax - thanks for covering guys - using Meloku Fastbond tech and Aether Vial acceleration.  Skullclamp is broken in every format!

Great tourney Lou and Carl!  Gencon will be amazing if it mimics this.

One note...a situation arose during the tourney where a questionable decision was made (I was guilty as everyone).  The situation was resolved thanks to good judgement and everyone apologized.  This is why I like and continue to play T1.

I can't wait for Gencon!  I can't wait to hangout with everyone!

I thought you were playing Mountainless Mountains at first.   Wink

Regarding the incident.  I will be more careful during my pre-tournament announcements in the future.  The last thing I want to do is hand out game losses over something that stupid and I'm glad I changed my mind when I realized the timing of your opponent's call.  The atmosphere is too friendly at Black Gold to have to get into such nonsense.

Yeah Carl that was an awesome call on your part that is just to sleazy if you ask me. I can't believe that guy would ask for that game loss when Scott was about to win. Once again good call Carl!
