Wow - Congrats Ray!

WHAAAT @ Shawn!   You were so adamant that Dryad was terrible.  But I see four in your decklist! What gives?

Heres a brief decription of my tourament report. I really don't feel like going into little detail on it. It has cause problem in the past, and the site gets upset and locks us out.

First round, I played agaisnt Ichrid. This is a terible matchup for me. I drew the nuts and won turn 3 both games. The only cards I had agaisnt it, in the sb were, a Echoing Truth and 2 Smothers and they still suck. He sb in alot of dead cards thinking I had Leylines, Jailer, and or Pithing Needles.  I decided to take out the Leylines out of the sb, because I thought the deck was dead. If he would have been able to get a good start on me, I never would have won this match.

Second round, I played agaisnt Gat Tendrils. I got paried down to the guy, who drew with Dshel. First game I combo out early on him thats three games straight I won early. Second game I got the early duress and Druid in play and just slow played it playing that game very controling. I most admit when I was duressing him the second game he drew really crappy a bunch of black cards and no black mana. So now my record is 4-0.

Third round, I played agaisnt AK Intuition.  Just like the past round I got paired down again. This guy was 1 win and 1 draw. The first game I think I drew the nuts, and the second game he drew way to many lands, even after casting Fact or Fiction and got a AK for 2. I notice in the first game, I Duress him and he had Ancestral Recall in his hand with a blue untap. I was actrally quite surprize he didnt cast it, in responce to my duress. But its a good thing he didn't, because I had misdirection in hand. Maybe some how he saw that in my hand. So now im 6-0

Fourth round, I played the Gat mirror agaisnt Shawn. First game I drop a early Druid that goes all the way. Second game he drops the early Druid that goes all the way. The thrid game was really close we both had creatures on the board. He went to smother my Druid and I went in Midirected it to his Tog. I think that may have been the game breaker. Now I am 8-1.

I Drew in the 5th and 6th round.

Top 8, I have to play the mirror again, agaisnt Dan. I went crazy on him first game with Will and having more counters than him. Second game he beat me down with a early Druid and drew alot more cards than me and had more counters. Third game, I think I lead a bit stronger, but when he played his Ancestral Recall and I Misdirected it back to me, was probably the game breaker.

Top 4, I got crash by Ray both games by Staxless Stax.

The only people in this top 8 that haven't made the elimination rounds in a SCG, Waterbury, or Gen Con are Chris Materewicz and Michael Knight, players who have won power at a local level.  This proves how skill intensive the format really is.  I don't see the necessity to restrict anything.

Steve, I was wrong obv.

Props to Ray for winning. The metagame looked really interesting for this although I am not surprised by the nine GATs. I can't wait to see some pictures from this event.

First, congrats to Mike on another great BB tourney.  I continue to be a big supportor of our local meta and attend when my schedule allows.  Also, thanks as always to the desolutionist for posting the report so quickly and with great detail.  But, I'm not sure if I can agree with this:

I don't see the necessity to restrict anything.

13 Gush decks in a 35 person event
4 Gush decks in T8
4 Flash decks in a 35 person event
2 Flash decks in T8

The numbers speak for themselves.  I hope come Sept, someone is listening.

Congrats to Ray for the win.   I'm so sorry I missed this one, but on Saturday morning I was on the Carnival cruise ship Ecstasy returning from Cozumel, Mexico!!!  Guess we all have to prioritize.

Kevin,  nice job placing with CS.  I would love to hear a tournament report from you and see what your thoughts were for the various match ups you faced.

The side event had 7 people. I only know 4 of the decks. GAT, STAX, Goblins, and R/G Aggro. I was the R/G Aggro player. I lost to Joe Davis first round in 3 games where the 3rd game Joe got a busted hand that made it so I didn't see a second turn.

I haev a first turn Llanowar Elf. He casts Ancestral, a slightly stronger card from the same set.

Yeah, GAT is a good deck; it can win 4 rounds in a 35 man tournament.  If you want a diverse top 8, maybe you should tell the other 70% of Gush players to play something they don't suck with, because it really shouldn't be DCI's responsibility.

Kevin's list misses a sieboard card.
Chris' list misses 2 cards which should be mana of some sort.
Dan's list misses a maindeck card.

@Desolutionist: Could you please check these so I can bring the complete lists up to morphling.de?

They're not on the decklist...  I'm assuming Heart Sliver and Time Walk.

I lost a Standard deck at this tournament. It was a Blink-Touch deck with a bunch of foil shocklands and Japanese Remands and Helixes. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know; I'd really like to get it back. Thanks.

Second round, I played agaisnt Gat Tendrils. I got paried down to the guy, who drew with Dshel.

I just wanted to point out that I actually lost this game.  That was the longest 4th turn I've ever witnessed.

This was a fun event.  I wish I would have done better.  Oh well, what are ya gonna do?

Highlights of the day:
Mike did well - good job dude!
The turn out was great.
The event was run well.
Pudges' is some good food.

Slops of the day:
Crowded and hot.
Getting paired against mono black round 3 of the main event... and losing.
Dropping 0-3 to play in the side event... only to get paired against the SAME mono black deck, losing again...
Losing to... Rathi fuckin' Trapper.

Kevin,  nice job placing with CS.  I would love to hear a tournament report from you and see what your thoughts were for the various match ups you faced.

I started 4-0 then drew the next two rounds. Swiss is kind of a blur. I know I played against Flash in the Top 8 and in Swiss. In the swiss, I got lucky twice. The first time he played flash was around turn 4. I had an active welder and a jar in the yard, so I jarred in response. In additon to not finding a Hulk he also lost 2 poison slivers. In game 2 he needed to use a pact to resolve a flash. he had 2 poison slivers in his hand, so i only took 8 (he played 2 haste sliver). Then he died on his next upkeep. In the top 8 match he beat me game 1, but I had insane draws game 2 and 3 that involved lotus, card drawing, and turn 1 sphere.
This was 100% luck and generally Flash is a horrid matchup

I dont remember the rest of my swiss rounds, except that 2sphere came in every round (except against Ray obviously). I dont know if i won a game 1 all day, but I do know every time I drew a sphere I won. I cannot say enough about how important that card is. I probably should have played leylines, but I had fun fooling opponents into siding in dead card answers to it. I like the matchup vs gush decks (with the spheres, submerges, and extirpates) and shop decks. I think I also beat a bomberman deck and I assume sphere was key there too

In top 4 we did a split on the sapphire and played it out for the Taiga and duals. Game 1 vs Jeremy I kept a hand I definately should have mulled but didn't because I overvalued Library in the matchup. Game 2 I won with sphere and a hardcast slaver. Game 3 I mulled down to 5 and fell way behind in card advantage when he resolved ancestral and maybe a fact or fiction... and I still had a chance to get back into the game if I could have drawn a black source to Extirpate gush after he vampiric tutored (for will). Either way though, I never mind losing to Jeremey. He is on an absolute tear right now.

This tourney was fun and I always look forward to Blue Bells because I enjoy everybody I play against. However, I really disliked the new location. It was incredibly hot and loud, and I don't know how much I want to play there in the future. I know Mike is in a pinch because he can no longer host tourneys at the college, but hopefully he can find somewhere better.

Yes, I agree with Dshel and Kevin, about it being way to hot in the store. It didn't help, it was like an oven outside that day. Now that fall is coming around, by the time Mike has the next one, it should be nice in cool. There also isn't enough space. I ended up having to walk over the table to get out, in the one round, since I was smash agaisnt the wall.

Kevin, I can't believe we never played each other yet. I had played in like the past ten blue bells, not missing a single one.

I hope to see you all, at the Mox tourament in Harrisburg in October, and the next Blue Bell.
