THE MANA DRAIN OPEN 11.5

Reason:
So, after some thinking, I decided I'd like to go back to my roots a bit, back to a simpler time when life went slower and we sipped lemonade made straight from the lemon.  Ya know, that kinda stuff.  I wanted to run an event, a little smaller, and a little slower but still up to the quality and standards of my events that you are used to.  Please keep in mind, THIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT I AM NOT GOING TO CONTINUE RUNNING LARGE EVENTS, I just want to do this as well.  You could look forward to a two day Mana Leak Open in November and another two day Mana Drain Open, sometime after New Years.  This is just something extra that I wanted to do.

When:
Sunday, October 14, 2007
Registration: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Tourney Starts PROMPTLY at 11:00 AM(To avoid a prolonged tournament, this will be strictly enforced.  Latecomers will be subject to a round 1 loss.)

Where:
Gamingetc Tournament Center and SuperStore
555 Lordship Boulevard (Exit 30 off I95)
Stratford CT 06615
1-800-380-1115 or 203-849-0186

Lodgings:
Ramada Inn
225 Lordship Boulevard
Stratford, Ct 06615
203-375-8866

Dopeness Factor:
Given 2000 points on a circle. Add labels 1, 2, ... , 1993 as follows. Label any point 1. Then count two points clockwise and label the point 2. Then count three points clockwise and label the point 3, and so on. Some points may get more than one label. What is the smallest label on the point labeled 1993? The dopeness factor is this number + 8.

Cost: $20 Entry Fee

Format: Vintage

Proxies: 10 Proxies + $1 per proxy(15 proxies maximum)

Prizes/Tournament Structure:
Based on 30 competitors:
1st Place: Unlimited Time Walk + Paid for Round 1 Bye at TMD Open 12
2nd Place: Alpha Taiga
3rd Place: Choice of Dual Land
4th Place: Choice of Non-Blue Dual Land
5-8th Place: Draft Set

Prizes will be increased as attendance does.

The store stocks a huge selection of singles and will be selling pizza, soda and other refreshments during the day.

Type 1 Side Events run during the day.

Any thing that I am forgetting?

Save a top 8 spot for me... here's hoping I win more than a draft set :p

Realistically I'll probably get my ass kicked, but this lemonade stand version of Waterbury should be fun.  I can definitely understand and appreciate you wanting to scale this down and hold one just for the sake of holding one.  You'll still get over 30 people with your eyes closed.  Should be a good time.

I'm a big fan of Sunday tourneys too Wink

See you then.

Eh- guess I am just rusty at non poker-related math.

On topic though- I fully intend to make this tournament as I have yet to make anything in Stratford so far.

EDIT- I am retarded and since I did it so late solved for 1933 instead of 1993.  So either it is 126 or I really do suck at math

So this is like a TMD, but with less prize support, so you're hoping less of a turn out and a more 'comfy old school' feel?

I'm coming either way, I'm just trying to figure out what you're trying to do here.  Also, this may be completely unfeasible, but it would be pretty sweet if there was a way for you to be able to play in your own event.

"So this is like a TMD"

Yes

"but with less prize support"

Yes

"so you're hoping less of a turn out and a more 'comfy old school' feel?"

I wouldn't say hoping for a smaller turn out, but rather, expecting.  Obviously, though I WANT everyone to come to this, it won't be the size of a normal TMD Open.

"I'm coming either way"

Sweet

"I'm just trying to figure out what you're trying to do here."

Exactly what you thought...pretty much giving my self a chance to get back to my roots.

"Also, this may be completely unfeasible, but it would be pretty sweet if there was a way for you to be able to play in your own event. "

Would be sweet, but it is a conflict of interest even in a small event like this.  If there wasn't already a Myriad, ELD, and Hadley every month, I might want to play in it, but I have plenty of type 1 to satiate me as it stands.

Well I make that a dopeness factor of 240, which I think means I won't be coming.  Well, that and the 2 other tournaments I'd already commited to that day.

I had to solve it numerically though, I have to admit...

I should be there with a buddy of mine just getting into vintage.  I'm sure the event will be a good time.

And Ray, I think this will turn from lemonade stand style to corporate America lemonade district in a hurry.  Everyone loves your events, I wouldn't expect to be getting as low of a turnout as you expect hah.  Mini-waterbury my ass!  Very Happy, but yes lemonade stand style would be nice.

Looking forward to the event,

Marek

There were 33 players in attendance. I had a great time playing on just three hours of sleep.  Wink

Thanks for another great event, Ray!
