Basically it's a rundown of some of the old jokes and idiots the oldbies remember and the new people may of never known. So now you might. Wink This'll be the only one I do of these since I think Craig would kill me if I did anymore.

Enjoy.

My question is, what are the in-jokes going on now that we'll be looking back on in a few years?

Breathweapon comes to mind...

Nice read.

One thing Veggies forgot to cover that I feel merits inclusion is that Zherbus's name primer immediately resulted in people in IRC at least calling him such things as "Zhercar" or "Zherhovercraft."

Good times indeed.

I forgot about that!  In the $500 tournament that year Roy Spires made top 8 with ICT after BEATING PTW who played TOG!  Shit, I took 3rd at the tournament that PTW won with ankh sligh, losing to him in the last round of swiss.  Based on all of this data results, I declare all of the side tournanments in 2003 officially not legitimate.

Another Crazy occurence: At the Vintage Side-Event at Worlds 2004, in a field of 90+ players (No Proxy), the top 2 was Random-Miser's ICT versus TheLegendOfMagic's Keeper list.

Like it or not, TheLegendOfMagic won the Vintage Tourney at Worlds (and a Black Lotus), and Spire's ICT dodged Null Rods in the summer of UR Fish to take 2nd (An Ancestral Recall I think)

Oh man, I remember the huge debate about who was "Vintage World Champion" versus "Worlds Vintage Champion". That was hilarious.

lolz. I remember Nobel Panthar!

Always thought that pic was funny because it looks like there's still a Lotus on the board so you're not technically "tapped out" Razz but you are still t3h decked!

Man, I remember old The Deck lists with the 1 Feldon's Cane (it was restricted, if I recall)...take that, nobel panthar!

Seriously though, didn't the guy type it like "nobel" or something? Or am I thinking of when people started running everything funny through a 12-year-old AOL kid translator? (Long live t3h berserked 2g!)

Yeah, that Lotus (and all the cards in hand) were supposed to leave the viewer with a "how did Keeper lose?" impression.

I wish VH1 would do a 'Where Are They Now?' on that kid. He's probably actually a respected TMD member who has just come to the attention of us in the recent past years. He's cringing everytime he hears it, hoping and praying noone finds that post on the Wayback machine and finds him out.

*looks suspiciously around at the newer vintage players*

I remember Ed Paltzik's (Legend) primers, they were filled with sarcastic insults that really made me laugh for some reason..

Quote
If you don't use Gorilla Shaman in your Ankh Sligh deck, you deserve to be attacked by a mob of angry Turkish schoolchildren wielding enraged hamsters as weapons.

Either that, or a severe beating administered by a gang of Moroccan camel herders armed with inflatable pool toys.

The offender will be swarmed by a horde of alienated, embittered communist factory workers brandishing stale, hardened Doritos as deadly stabbing weapons.

a severe beating administered by an irritated posse of Mongolian spice traders armed with weapons molded out of undercooked pasta.

Either that, or a terrific throttling delivered by several unemployed Brazilian lumberjacks wearing Richard Nixon masks.

you deserve to be horribly maimed by a horde of agitated girl scouts brandishing sharpened lollipops

If you refuse to use Nantuko Shade in Suicide Black, then you deserve to be horribly stung by an agitated swarm of killer bees, resulting in horrible swelling and allergic reactions that cause you to stop breathing

If you choose to run these cards in your Suicide deck, you deserve to be trampled to death by a large terrestrial mammal in a bog somewhere in Northern Canada.

then you deserve to be severely beaten by an enraged pack of schoolchildren armed with cudgels.

Looking back, they weren't even that funny taken out of context, but the way he worked them in ended up being funny....

No Doomsday joke?  Mountain Goat?

Wasn't there something involving basic Forest in the sideboard?

I read the doomsday thread like 4 times in a row trying to make heads or tails of that nonsense.

Mountain Goat was the most overused joke ever and Doomsday caused more of a gigantic shitstorm than anything else, lol.

I remember that. The idea was that it was completely indistinguishable from Mono Blue for 4 or 5 turns. I think someone posted an apprentice log to laugh at people playing around non-existent counterspells.

My memory of Island.dec was that Smennen got suckered into playing against it for over an hour on Apprentice/IRC courtesy of amazing stalling tactics.

We really can't have a thread like this without devoting some discussion to the "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" thread.  Very Happy

B/G Berserk aggro, if I remember correctly. Full of (at the time) terrible men like negator and these huge green creatures that were god awful.

If you guys really want to get oldschool, here are a couple fun reports:
Invincible Counter Troll.
Legend Blue

There's a ton of great reports by names I'd almost forgotten, too. What a good site.

Legend gets the all-time hilarity prize, in my opinion. For example, the introduction to that report ... how do you beat that? lol. Pretty much everything that guy said was entertaining.

It was a god awful thread about some BG aggro deck, featuring that 1G 5/5 creature that is just unparalleled in terribleness. It was touted by Psyduck or some other hapless Vintage personality.

That's right! Now I totally remember. It was psyduck being an idiot posting about how he broke the format by using Tempting Wurm + Phyrexian Negator along with Bounty of the Hunt, Invigorate and Berserk. I remember he mentioned totally racing combo, because his disruption was only like 4 duress.

There was also Smmenen's BPB (Brown Paper Bag) deck, which was Mono-blue and may or may not have had such hits as Prohibit and Thwart, which people thought were funny. I thought the arguements going back and forth were the real entertainment though.

When was this? Does it qualify as old? Either way, share the funnay.

@J_Orlove - I had forgotten about that thread. Damn you Roanoke for being in the worst geographical location ever.
